Westminster offers active opportunities for everyone. There is a full range of great value activities and services to help you live a healthy and active lifestyle, from gyms and swimming pools to parkour, an innovative free running programme. All our centres offer excellent value for money and are open to the public on a casual pay as you play basis. There is no joining fee or contract, so you can just turn up and take part.
Concession Card If you have a disability, or care for a disabled person, are a Westminster senior citizen or a Westminster resident who is unemployed and currently seeking employment, you are entitled to a concession card. The card entitles you to free swimming and up to 70% off other leisure activities at council facilities. To apply, please visit your nearest council sport and leisure centre and pick up an application form. See pages 6 and 7.
MyWestminster ResCard If you are a Westminster resident, you can take advantage of excellent discounts on sport and leisure activities and membership, including over 60% off swimming sessions. To get your MyWestminster ResCard, visit www.westminster. gov.uk/mywestminster
ActivePassport ActivePassport is for children and young people aged 19 and under who live in Westminster. It gives you great discounts at our sport and leisure centres including free swimming. Pick up an application form at your local centre from May or download a form from www.westminster.gov.uk/activepassport. ActivePassport replaces the Youth Passport scheme. If you have a Youth Passport, you can continue to use it at our leisure centres until you have a new ActivePassport. Membership All Westminster City Council facilities are open on a pay as you play basis, but if you exercise more than once a week you can save money by joining one of the many membership schemes available. Ask at your local leisure centre for details.

Many activities are free and all centres operate on a pay as you play basis, with some of the lowest prices in London, so there are no joining fees and no contracts. Sayers Croft is set in a beautiful 56-acre site just 30 miles from London. Accommodation is available for 200 people in six wooden chalets, each with broadband internet access, intruder alarm, common room and en-suite staff rooms. PADDINGTON RECREATION GROUND Paddington Recreation Ground Randolph Avenue, Maida Vale, W9 1PD TEL 020 7641 3642 OPEN Monday to Friday from 7am-9.30pm Saturday and Sunday from 7am-dusk Paddington Recreation Ground offers recreation space for walking, jogging and children’s play as well as sport and leisure facilities, including: • cricket nets • tennis courts - six synthetic and six hard court surfaces • bowling green • table tennis (indoor and outdoor) • multi-games court for basketball and netball • full size water-based and ‘Tiger Turf’ synthetic pitches for hockey and football • two five-a-side 3G synthetic pitches • 400m athletics track • exercise studio and community gym • children’s play area • pavilion with changing facilities and meeting rooms • environmental area and wetland pond. Environmental workshops for schools and groups Explore the natural world with hands-on workshops for children aged 7 to 11 (Key Stage 2) at Paddington Recreation Ground’s environmental area. Spend the morning investigating the difference between pond and woodland habitats, followed by an afternoon of team building and environmental or sensory games.
Sessions cost £200 and suggested times are 10.30am to 2.30pm. Sessions are delivered by the Sayer’s Croft team. St. Augustine’s Sports Centre Rudolph Road, Kilburn, NW6 5SN The sports centre is based at St. Augustine’s High School and offers fantastic facilities and activities: • indoor sports hall • junior basketball coaching • exercise classes • pay as you play activities including football, basketball, netball, badminton and table tennis. What’s at Paddington Recreation Ground? Outdoor gym Head to Paddington Recreation Ground this summer to try out the new football and basketball pitch and outdoor gym. The gym will offer cardiovascular equipment including running machines, cross-trainers and exercise bikes as well as strength training equipment such as chest presses. The gym is open to all ages. Please ask at reception for details.

COMPETITIONS There are lots of opportunities to get involved in competitive sport across the city. Call 020 7641 2012 for details. Unity in the Community football tournament Saturday 16th April 2011 Saturday 13th August 2011 at Paddington Recreation Ground Registration 9.30am – u12 mixed and u14 boys (10am kick off) 1.30pm – u16 and u19 boys (2pm kick off) • seven-a-side (up to 10 players in a squad) • maximum of 10 teams per age group • places are filled on a first come first served basis.
Unity in the Community Football league Thursdays from 6 - 9pm at Academy Sport • • • • • •
u14s and u16s up to 10 teams per age group. Each team will play each other twice over 18 weeks and take part in a cup competition games will be 12 minutes with two halves 6-a-side: maximum 10 players in the squad each week the league is free prizes for winners and runners up.

SUPPORT FOR TALENTED ATHLETES Champions of the Future Programme Champions of the Future supports and develops gifted young athletes competing at regional and national level by offering: • mentoring support and training including progress reports, performance profiles and athlete and performance workshops
• up to £1,000 funding support for travel equipment and accommodation expenses • free access to all Westminster facilities. Gifted and Talented programme The programme seeks to improve the education of gifted and talented children and young people aged 5-19 through sport.

Kids Camp Children aged 8 to 13 can join in holiday camps at Queen Mother Sports Centre during the school holidays. Banana Kids Camp Jubilee Sports Centre offers a half-term kids camp run by qualified workers for ages 8 to 15. Your children can get involved in fun activities and games including swimming, football and trips to the zoo, museums and other local attractions. Ask at reception for details. Parkour is a new and innovative sport, where you move your body from one point to another efficiently and effectively, overcoming obstacles around you. You will be shown the techniques and moves you need to perfect the art of movement and can receive an AQA Unit 1 and/or 2 accreditation. Parkour camps take place at the NEW Parkour Park at Academy Sport. They are FREE for young
25th – 29th July from 10am to 1pm 8th – 12th August from 10am to 1pm 22nd – 26th August from 10am to 1pm Parkour Park The UK’s first purpose-built outdoor managed parkour facility will provide the perfect environment for people of all ages to practice parkour in a safe environment. The site will mimic an urban landscape with walls, rails and stairs for people to vault and scale. Over 8s can join regular classes or traceurs can use the park unsupervised once they pass a competence test with qualified instructors from Parkour UK. The facility is funded by the council and London Marathon Trust. It is currently under construction and the first phase will be open in Summer 2011. Cycle Training Free adult one to one cycle training is available to anyone living in Westminster. Exercise Referral Scheme A 10 or12 week programme for people who have a medical condition. An instructor will support you through a healthy lifestyle programme tailored to suit your fitness levels and medical condition. Your programme can include gym workouts, exercise classes, walking, outdoor activity and swimming. The scheme is referral only. DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME Aged 14 – 25? Why not make all the activities you are doing count towards your Duke of Edinburgh Award. Complete four challenges once a week for three to six months to achieve the award. The challenges are in four different areas: • get fitter or more skilled at a sport • volunteer or qualify as a coach • learn or improve a skill eg referee, admin, planning • Take the Expedition Challenge (training course over eight weeks that includes two camping and trekking trips) The Duke of Edinburgh Award is widely recognised by schools, colleges, universities and employers. It will help you to learn new skills, help others and experience adventure.

If you want to become more involved in sport in Westminster, as a coach or instructor, we’ve got lots of volunteering, coaching, training and employment opportunities. Sport and Leisure Volunteering Programme If you are interested in becoming a coach, referee, administrator or instructor you can receive support in finding a role that matches your skills, interests and availability, along with funding for training courses and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks. The Westminster Sports Unit have teamed up with Westminster Volunteer Centre to help and support people to volunteer in sport. Sports organisations looking for volunteers can also benefit from support to identify and develop new volunteer opportunities. School Sports Courses There are a range of training opportunities for education professionals, including a Continued Professional Development (CPD) and Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) programme. CPD is provided by the Westminster School Sports Partnership for teachers across Westminster and includes teacher support, conferences, specific whole school INSET training and PE co-ordinator days. Other programmes available are:

Sports Coaching Courses The coaching courses opposite are available to anyone aged 16 or over. Attendance is required on all dates to complete the course. These courses are also open to non-Westminster residents although priority is given to Westminster residents, clubs and organisations. All courses take place at Moberly Sports & Education Centre unless otherwise stated. You could receive up to 75% of the cost of your training in exchange for volunteering in London, through the Mayor of London’s National Skills Academy. Call 020 7641 2012 for more information.
