Admission Policy

Subject: Admission into the RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program Effective Date: August 1, 2022

1. Cohort 3 (Class of 2023) students will take the NCLEX-RN on or before Saturday,

August 13, 2022. This date is 90 days after graduation from UPMC Jameson School of

Nursing and represents the time frame when pre-licensure program nursing knowledge is most current. 2. Students will be responsible for notifying the Chair of the Department of Nursing by email of NCLEX-RN pass or fail status no later than 5pm on Friday, August 19, 2022. 3. If a student does not pass the NCLEX-RN, a wait period of 45 days before taking the examination again is required by the National Council for State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). For admission into the RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program, the student will request conditional acceptance by emailing the Chair of the Department of Nursing. In the request, the student will describe plans to increase nursing knowledge and NCLEX-

RN proficiency as well as a timeline for retake. 4. A request for conditional acceptance may be denied if the student does not plan to retake the NCLEX-RN or the plan to increase nursing knowledge and the timeline for retake is not included in the request. 5. The Chair of the Department of Nursing will email approval of conditional acceptance to the student and place a copy in the student’s academic file. 6. A student will conditional acceptance is granted an extension until 12-31-22 to successfully pass the NCLEX-RN and continue in the RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program. 7. Students who need to retake the NCLEX-RN after August 22, 2022 should retake the exam no later than the end of October. This allows time for a 2nd retake if needed (with the 45 day waiting period) before the 12-31-22 deadline. 8. RN licensure is required for practice experiences included in the NUR 403 (Advanced

Health Assessment) and NUR 601 (Nursing Capstone) spring 2023 courses. 9. In addition to the requirements found in this policy, RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program students will adhere to policies found in the College Catalog.
