On Friday, September 16, members of the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee (CBC PAC) took a break from the CBC Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference and hastily called a press conference to address Donald Trump’s comments about the “Birther Movement” during a press event at Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C. The Republican presidential nominee and reality television star said that President Barack Obama was born in the U.S., but not before claiming that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton started the Birther Movement. Mainstream media treated Trump’s announcement like some groundbreaking revelation, and it dominated the news cycle for the rest of the
day. Trump has been called the leader of the Birther Movement for his role in promoting the falsehood that President Obama was not born in the United States. Trump continued these attacks, even after President Obama released his birth certificate in 2011. “Donald Trump is nothing more than a two-bit racial arsonist who has done nothing, but fan the flames of bigotry,” said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.). Then Jeffries ran down Trump’s legacy of racial discrimination and reminded journalists about the raciallycharged, full-page advertisement that the real estate developer purchased in a number of newspapers in New York City that called for the reinstatement of the death penalty during the controversial “Central Park Five” case. The five teenagers, who were interrogated until they
delivered forced confessions about the sexual assault and then convicted of the crime, were later proven innocent. “Run to the polls and make sure this hater is not elected President of the United States… he’s not man enough to render an apology to the President of the United States,” Jeffries added. Rep. G.K. Butterfield (DN.C.), speaking as a board member of the CBC PAC, called Donald Trump “a disgusting fraud” and noted that the Republican presidential candidate began to question President Obama's citizenship almost from the very beginning of his first term. “He would never have done this to Mitt Romney…he would have never done this to any other White [person] running for president,” said Butterfield. When our calls for help end in death They said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for us, your servants, that we may not die for having added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.” --1 Samuel 12:19 By Bobby R. Henry, Sr. I want to try and shed some light into some dark and scary places that seem to avoid light, like roaches running from a can of Raid. Many times we have called for help only to find ourselves in a much worst predicament than we were when we called for some relief. My heart bleeds for the families who sought assistance for protection from a love one who has been tormented beyond any normal understanding of their wayward behaviors. In this time of unusual temporary dysfunction caused by intoxication, not adhering to prescribed meds or some related military sickness even in the heated circumstances of domestic altercations- help may truly be needed.

For several seconds, an officer follows Crutcher from behind with a gun trained on him. Three more officers then converge on the scene as Crutcher lowers his hands and approaches his SUV. While standing beside the driver’s side door, he suddenly drops to the street. Moments later, blood can be seen saturating his white t-shirt. The Tulsa Police Department also released dash-cam video of the incident. Jordan, who called the footage “disturbing,” said that he asked the Justice Department to review the case. “I will make this promise to you; we will achieve justice,” he said. Shelby, who was hired in 2011, was placed on routine administrative leave with pay. During a news conference Monday, a Crutcher family lawyer, Melvin C. HIV is claiming the lives of African Americans at an alarming rate. But how much do we really care? By Shantell E. Jamison Full disclosure. I am HIVnegative. Thankfully, I can say that I do not have to take several pills a day to survive. I am not among the roughly 37 million people living with HIV, and my immune system isn’t compromised by a horrific parasitelike illness. I do not have to be concerned with a virus as simple as the flu or common cold taking me out, or being discriminated against for being sick. And for these reasons, I can wholeheartedly admit that I do not care about HIV as much as I should. At least I didn’t until now. This isn’t something that I am proud of. In fact, I wasn’t even aware of my position until arriving at the 20th Annual United States Conference on AIDS (USCA) — thanks to the Black AIDS Institute — last week.

If you asked me before attending the conference, I’d say I gave a whole lot of damns about HIV/AIDS. As a Black woman who grew up in a lowincome community absent of proper healthcare, how could I not? I would certainly get offended at such a question and I would rush to tell you about all of the articles on the subject that housed my byline. I’d proudly point you in the direction of works where I’ve contributed to the narratives of those impacted by HIV, because they, too, deserve to be heard. But still, after it was all said and done and my job was completed, I went on with life and didn’t think about HIV until another headline came up. But for some reason we consciously — and sometimes subconsciously — discriminate against HIV and those who are affected by it.
