Mom outraged after school shaves daughter’s head without Permission By Susan Johnes A Dracut, Massachusetts mother has expressed her anger after someone shaved her daughter’s head at school without her consent. “I am agitated,” she said. “I’m upset because it’s like my child was assaulted and violated.” Her daughter, Tru attends the Little Heroes Group Home in

NAACP Board elects Derrick Johnson President & CEO BALTIMORE —The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), America’s largest and original legacy civil rights organization, has unanimously elected Derrick Johnson president & CEO, it was announced Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Johnson, 49, has served as interim president and CEO since July of this year. A Detroit native now residing in Jackson, Miss. Bernal Smith, Publisher of the New Tri-State Defender has died By Shane Deitert

MEMPHIS, Tenn - Bernal Smith, publisher of the New Tri-State Defender newspaper has died. Smith was 45. His family confirmed his passing to Local 24 Sunday. It was Smith who engineered a deal to bring ownership and operation of the New Tri-State Defender to Memphis in 2013 for the first time in the publication; which has been in existence more than 60 years. Smith was active in the community and frequently appeared on Local 24 News to discuss community issues.
