Congratulations to all who participated in one of our greatest rights -if qualified, to run for office “Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us,” 1 Samuel 8:19 (NASV) By Bobby R. Henry, Sr. The Bible refers to Saul as the people’s choice because the people demanded a king. They wanted God to give them a powerful king who would lead their army. God did not approve. However, God gave them the kind of king that they wanted. Saul had all the qualities that they desired for their king. Yes, even though we voted for the ones whom we felt would be the better candidates, we have a responsibility to the ones we didn’t vote for as well. We are accountable to make sure that our non-choices have the concerns and needs for ALL of the citizens in his/her authority. It is now too late to have a pity party re what should have been or what might have happened if I would have… The governance of our respective communities is in our hands to hold firm to the diligence of true government for the people and by the people.
