Aurora House celebrates fifth anniversary Comfort care home for the dying exists on donations, fundraisers and volunteers by Grace Griffee It’s hard to believe that such a comfortable, well-maintained home, staffed 24 hours a day, can exist solely on donations, memorials, grants, fundraisers and volunteer hours, but that is exactly what Aurora House in Spencerport has been doing for the past five years. After volunteering at another comfort home in the area, founder Sandie Ville had a vision for a similar facility on the west side of Monroe County. Through a donation of land by the Ogden Presbyterian Church and community support, ground was broken for the project in September 2009 and one year later, the doors were opened to its first residents. Aurora House served 22 families during its first year of operation and over 120 in the past five years. “Sandie’s mission was to make a house that would fit into the community, not a facility,” said Karen Kuebler, executive director and the home’s only full time staff member. “Aurora House wouldn’t exist without a tremendous amount of help from the community and volunteers.”
“We have an amazing, talented and dedicated group of individuals who are truly invested in our mission and work hard to support what happens inside and outside Aurora House each and every day.”
Karen Kuebler Aurora House Executive Director
Aurora House does not receive any funding from insurance, hospice agencies or the government. Because the home only has two beds, it is not considered a nursing home. A person comes into the care of Aurora House through a referral made by a hospice agency. Referrals are made when a person is thought to be in the final three months of his/her life. Although 24 hour a day, 7 day a week care is provided, families are not charged for the services their loved one receives. “Five years of resident care involves a great number of hands at work,” said Kuebler. “No experience is necessary for any volunteer position. We provide the training
Ground was broken for Aurora House at 2495 South Union Street in Spencerport in September 2009 and one year later, the doors were opened to its first residents. Aurora House served 22 families during its first year of operation and over 120 in the past five years.
and welcome families, young adults and seniors to help.” Aurora House has 56 volunteer shifts each week – two volunteers at a time in four-hour shifts. Some of the jobs include providing resident care, gardening, grocery shopping, housekeeping, special events, fundraising and house maintenance. “We have an amazing, talented and dedicated group of individuals who are truly invested in our mission and work hard to support what happens inside and outside Aurora House each and every day,” said Kuebler. Instead of having an event to celebrate the fifth anniversary, Aurora House staff and volunteers are focusing their efforts on the annual Bountiful Baskets & Brunch event that will be held Saturday, October 17 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Pearce Memorial Church, 4322 Buffalo Road, North Chili. Patrons purchase tickets to the event for $20 per person and the 400-ticket event always sells out. The fundraiser features 150 themed gift baskets valued at $50 or more that are donated by individuals, businesses,
clubs, church groups and families. Carol Kirkpatrick, who volunteers throughout the year with her husband, Roger, lends her artistic expertise to the fundraiser by putting items in the perfect container, wrapping them and tying them up with a bow. Patrons put raffle tickets in bags next to the baskets they would like and a ticket is drawn to determine the winner. For more information, visit http://www.aurorahousewmc. com/2015/08/bountiful-baskets-and-brunch/. Aurora House also held a “Starry Night” fundraiser in April that featured a buffet dinner, music and silent auction, and an Old Fashioned Pig Roast in September. Look for details later in the year on the Light of Remembrance event, which last year featured 550 luminaries lighting the grounds in remembrance of loved ones who have passed. “Individuals are going to take this journey with or without us,” said Kuebler. “If we can make the time more enjoyable and comfortable, then we have given them our greatest gift.”

Spencerport native Mills inducted into Golden Eagle Hall by Warren Kozireski Spencerport High School graduate Brandon Mills was among nine inductees as part of the 31st class into the College at Brockport Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame in ceremonies held October 3. Mills played with the men’s basketball team from 2000-2004 and helped them to three NCAA tournament bids which included a run to the “Elite 8” in his sophomore year and two “Sweet 16’s”. “It’s a great feeling and especially great being inducted in the same class with my teammate, Mike Medbury,” Mills said after the ceremony. “We couldn’t bring a
national title here, but we had some really good teams and brought some pride to the school.” The power forward was a three-time AllSUNYAC selection - First Team as a senior - and was part of the school record 28-win season in 2001-02. Mills finished his collegiate career ranked fifth all-time at the school in scoring and still holds the record for most games played (119) and career free throw attempts (569) while ranked among the top-ten in several other career categories. He now works for the National School Boards Association as a technical system administrator based in Virginia.
Cadets win first of season by Warren Kozireski Hilton won an extended first game before also taking the second and third in a 34-32, 25-22, 25-23 sweep of Churchville-Chili in boys volleyball for their first win of the season. Both teams allowed four point lead to evaporate in game one before the game settled into a point-for-point affair. The teams traded points starting at 22-22 with multiple opportunities to win dissolved by a net serve or mishit all the way to 32-32. Hilton took scored consecutive points on two Saints errors to eke out the 34-32 victory. The Cadets generated just four points
from the offense in game two, including a pair of kills by Bryce Thompson. They built an 11-point lead before the Saints rallied with Jared Moore registering consecutive kills before falling short. In the third game, C-C built a four point lead at 15-11 before the Cadets rallied on kill by Carl Pilon and an ace from Aaron Gibbs. Nick Rugelis had a kill to tie the contest at 22-all, but Hilton finished off the sweep with consecutive points on errors. Dylan Angora led the Saints with six kills. The Cadets were paced by Pilon’s eight kills, Thompson’s 15 assists, Joe Cavallaro’s five kills and defensively by Gibbs, who finished with 25 digs and added five aces.
Regelsberger paces Saints swimmers by Warren Kozireski Emily Regelsberger finished first in two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams to lead ChurchvilleChili to a 97-86 win over Brockport in girls swimming. She ran the second leg in the meet opening 200-yard individual medley along with Sierra Schertler, Jordan Melita and Mercedes McKinney, who won easily with a time of 2:06.85. Regelsberger later won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:24.33 and the 500yard freestyle in 5:34.60 before teaming up with McKinney, Abigail Sauer and Adrianna Calamita to take first in the 200-yard
relay in 1:52.93. Melita also took first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.10. Sarah DiGaetano won the diving competition with 203.15 points with Sauer and Hannah Saxena finishing second and third. For Brockport, Caroline Martin and Khavy Sangasy each won two individual events. Martine hit the board first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.29 and the 100yard backstroke in 1:07.46. Sangasy won the 50-yard freestyle in :26.27 and the 100-yard freestyle in :57.13. Angelina Lockhart and Charlie Danielak finished one-two in the 100-yard breaststroke with the winning time of 1:24.43.

Choose an Amana Furnace And You WON’T Get Cold Feet!
Quiet Comfort Many homeowners may think the best gas furnaces are not seen or heard. That’s why and Amana brand AMVM97 Modulating Variable-Speed Furnace is insulated for noise reduction. However, the real secret to its unobtrusiveness is that it strives to operate on low capacity as often and as long as possible and, therefore, produces as low as 25% of the normal high-fire and circulating blower sound generated by furnaces with multi-speed motors. Energy Efficiency Energy efficiency equates to cost savings. This Amana brand Modulating, Variable-Speed Furnace offers 97% AFUE, as opposed to lower ratings of less efficient gas furnaces. Its variable-speed 97% Efficient blower can improve its efficiency ratModulating Gas ing and enable the furnace to maintain Variable-Speed consistent warmth in low-heat capacity mode without inefficient high-heat Furnace surges associated with single speed • 24 HR. gas furnaces.

Famed Rochester Area Chef Don Antinore to teach next generation of chefs The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development (CWD) has added a culinary program to its catalog of adult job-training classes. The 25-week program is designed to provide students age 18 or older with a variety of culinary skills and techniques that will prepare them for a career in hospitality.
Antinore holds several designations, including Certified Executive Chef (CEC), Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) and Certified Culinary Administrator (CCA). In 2010, he was admitted to the American Academy of Chefs Culinary Hall of Fame, and is one of only 81 living hall of fame chefs in the United States today. Provided photo.
The chefs-in-training will learn how to skillfully prepare and serve meals that look as good as they taste while increasing their knowledge of food science, diet and nutrition. Students will prepare and sample a variety of menu items while they learn and practice skills in baking and pastry arts, culinary arts, front of the house service, hospitality, safety and sanitation. 9th AnnuAl CAndy Buy BACk Presented by
Steven J. Thompson, D.D.S. For the past 8 years we’ve marked Halloween by helping kids cut back a little on their Halloween candy consumption while also offering them a way to help support our troops overseas. We’ve invited kids of all ages to come to our office the week after to drop off their excess Halloween candy. We’ve also offered to “Buy Back” any unwanted Halloween candy for $1 per pound. All candy collected (along with toothbrushes and toothpaste) has been forwarded to Operation Gratitude where it is included in special care packages and sent to individual servicemen and women overseas. By Christmas this year, Operation Gratitude will have sent over one million packages and we’re proud to have been a part of that effort. Over the years we’ve had a
great time playing it up for Halloween and collected hundreds of pounds of candy. One year, R News even came to video the party and aired a nice piece about our event. We’ve decided to extend the Buy Back this year and allow folks to drop off candy any time the week following Halloween. We’ll be open 8am – 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, November 2, 3, 4 & 5, so you will have more time after school to stop by. And, of course, adults with left over Halloween candy, or a desire to help with postage costs are always welcome to donate as well. We’ll be posting more information in the next few weeks. Thanks for your support. We are located at 42 Public Square, Holley and can be reached at 638-5435.

Knights of Pythias present Camp Good Days with a $2,000 donation Sunday, July 12 The Order of Knights of Pythias (Rochester Jay Lodge 639) presented Camp Good Days a $2,000 donation. The donation will serve as a means to allow four campers to have a full week-long stay a camp. “The Knights of Pythias have always been great friends of Camp Good Days,” said Camp Good Days’ Chairman and Founder, Gary Mervis. “The Knights of Pythias have bought into the mission of Camp Good Days, and have allowed me to keep a promise I made over 36 years ago: that all of our programs would be free of charge to anyone who qualified for our services. The only way I have been able to keep that promise is through the efforts of special fundraising events, and groups like The Knights of Pythias.” The Order of the Knights of Pythias is an international, non-sectarian fraternal organization, based on the principles of friendship, charity, and benevolence. “The Knights of Pythias are excited to continue their support of Camp Good Days,” said Knights of Pythias Financial Secretary, Mark Goldberg. “We truly believe in the role that Camp Good Days plays in the lives of families impacted by cancer.” Camp Good Days and Special Times, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives

Five Sons Winery a family affair in Sweden by Kristina Gabalski With a name like Five Sons Winery and RG Brewery, it’s not surprising that the new venture is a family one. Aimee and Adam Mesiti (who have five sons) opened their winery/brewery and tasting room this past May. Located at 1360 West Sweden Rd. in the Town of Sweden, the business includes five acres of grapes and a production building. All wines and craft beers are brewed on-site and the tasting room recently began offering non-alcoholic spruce soda to kick off a line of homemade soda drinks that will eventually include selections like root beer and birch beer, Aimee says. Adam, who retired as a Village of Brockport Police Officer two years ago, has an interest in wine making that goes back two decades, Aimee says. Ten years ago the family planted their very first grape vines in hopes of one day opening a winery when Adam retired. Their location turned out to be a perfect spot for a vineyard. “They came out amazingly,” Aimee says of the first crop of grapes. Soil tests done by Cornell University confirmed the site was “fantastic” for grape production, she explains. The process of building the production facility and tasting room hasn’t been easy, Aimee notes, but the Mesitis persisted through the long process including obtaining all the necessary licenses to open their business. Initially, they thought they would convert a small barn on the property for production and tasting, but realized it was too small. “We needed to build a bigger building to house both aspects,” Aimee says. The spacious tasting room has a large porch and overlooks the vineyard. Behind the tasting room is the threebarrel system brewery and winery. Aimee and Adam’s 20-year old son, Jared, is becoming an experienced brewer despite the fact he is too young to legally drink. Eighteen is the legal age for serving and brewing beer in New York State. He enjoys concocting full grain craft brews with flavors such as “Nilla Wafer,” “Orange Creamsicle,” and “Caramel Apple” for fall. The Mesitis are pleased that their boys are taking an interest and vital role in the business. “For them to jump in and be so involved is wonderful,” Aimee says. The Sweden community has also embraced Five Sons. “There has been an amazing response and support from the local community,” Aimee says. “We are touched by the local community support.” She adds that the Town of Sweden was also very helpful in the process. The success of the opening year has been tinged somewhat by the fact 2015 will likely go down as a memorable year for local grape growers and vintners. Aimee explains that the extended frigid cold of this past winter coupled with the Memorial Day weekend freeze, means there will be no grape harvest this year.
Five Sons vineyards, “got decimated... it was like a nuclear bomb went off,” she says of the effect of the late May temperatures. Five Sons should be able to purchase enough grapes for this year’s productions, Aimee notes. The Mesitis also plan to re-plant vines that suffered winterkill using more cold-hardy varieties. “We will do what we can do,” she says and hope for a spectacular harvest in 2016. This fall the winery will release a number of new wines including Ruby Sipper, Lemberger, Baco Noir, Rocco’s Red and Sailors Delight. Five Sons Winery also hosts special and private events. A Fall Festival is planned for October 17. “There will be a tent with live music, face painting, a food truck and lots that people can do,” Aimee says. The Mesitis hope to offer more special events, particularly during the summer months, in future years. The tasting room is open year-round and hours are 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays; Noon to 7 p.m. on Thursdays; Noon to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.

Camp Puzzle Peace brings its Sibling Empowerment Program to Brockport Camp Puzzle Peace/The Family Autism Center will bring its popular Sibling Empowerment program to the West Side this October. The three week workshop will run Tuesdays, 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. October 13, 20 and 27 in the library of the Fred W. Hill School, 40 Allen Street, Brockport. The workshop is open to children ages 7 through 12 and costs $45 per participant. This three part workshop provides a safe and engaging environment for siblings of individuals with autism, in which they explore what it means to have a brother or sister on the spectrum. Participants can connect with others with similar experiences and celebrate their own personal strengths as well as those of their sibling. Instructor Sandi Krajeski uses fun activities and conversations to tap into a variety of learning styles and interests. At the end of the workshops, participants will: •Have a better understanding of autism (demystification). •Be able to identify both their own strengths and their sibling’s strengths. •Be a stronger self-advocate and advocate for their sibling. •Identify a self-care technique that works for them. Sandi Krajeski has run the program since 2013, when it grew out of other Camp Puzzle Peace activities. “Parents
were looking for a program that addressed the needs of siblings, especially helping them understand autism better and giving them a safe environment to ask questions,” explains Krajeski. “Couple siblings in particular were worried about what would happen to their brother when they were adults. The extra worries that these kids were dealing with needed to be discussed. We decided we needed to demystify autism and focus on strengths - those of our group members and their sibling with autism.” Sandra Krajeski, a certified school psychologist with over 14 years of experience, has worked with many children across the autism spectrum, both in schools and recreational settings. Much of her time includes helping children and families build skills in the areas of communication, selfregulation and behavior. The Family Autism Center is home to Camp Puzzle Peace, a grassroots non-profit organization whose mission is to provide traditional family experiences for families in Monroe County dealing with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental delays. For information about the Family Autism Center and Camp Puzzle Peace or to sign up for their monthly newsletter, visit familyautismcenter.com, call 371-5018 or email info@camppuzzlepeace.com. Spencerport receives NYSSBA Be the Change Award The New York State School Boards Association selected Spencerport Central School District as one of only three districts statewide with the 2015 Be the Change for Kids Innovation Award. The award, announced during a press conference on September 29, recognizes Spencerport for its 21st Century Technology Team initiative. The 21st Century Technology Team provides staff development for teachers, as well as direct instruction to students utilizing a blended learning model. Reaching all students in grades K-5, this collaborative effort has provided consistent and equitable experiences utilizing 21st Century technology in all elementary classrooms within the school district. Representing Spencerport at the ceremony at SUNY Poly included teachers and administrators: Elissa Kingsbury, Telcie Pincelli, Cory Allen, Lisa McCarthy, and Ty Zinkiewich; along with Board President
William Sweeney. The Be the Change for Kids initiative launched in January of 2010 to set awareness of the funding crisis facing New York’s public education system, and to encourage school leaders to consider ways to optimize resources and embrace new methods of teaching and learning. Fundamental changes in financing education, spending priorities, incentives and performance measures were needed to ensure all New York’s public education students have equal opportunity for success. Three guiding principles steer the Be the Change for Kids initiative: •Provide a globally-competitive education at an affordable cost •Improve efficiencies without sacrificing quality •Embrace change when it leads to better opportunities and success for students. Aureli told board members the Dunkin Donuts is, “not a destination, sixty percent of the business is drive-thru.” Zoning Board Chair Fregoe said he “was good” with the variance request. “It’s a similar use to CAM’s, most people will be using the drive-thru,” he said. “The actual use is not substantial.” No residents spoke during the public hearing on both the special use permit and the variance. The Ogden Planning Board has already given preliminary and final approval to the project.

Additionally, Zoning Board members granted an area variance for the project regarding parking, “for 29 spaces, whereas the schedule of off-street parking requires 53 parking spaces.”

Brockport community provides new bikes at Welcome Center by Kristina Gabalski
Russell Church outside his shop on Main Street in Brockport with “Sprocket.” Church and two residents recently donated new bikes for the bike loan rack at the Brockport Welcome Center. K. Gabalski photo.
Generous donations by two residents and one Main Street business have provided six shiny new bikes for the bike loan rack at the Welcome Center on the Erie Canal. Russell Church, who owns Bicycle Outfitters on Main Street has been donating free labor over the years to keep the used donated bikes in riding condition, but earlier this year Doug Wolcott, volunteer Harbor Master at the Welcome Center, stepped-up and purchased two brand new bikes. The generous and thoughtful donation prompted Church to donate another bike. Resident David Markham then donated kids’ bikes and Church says he responded with a second donation. The result has been two new men’s, two new women’s and two new children’s bikes available for cycling around the village and along the canal. “The bikes are single-speed and are easy to operate,” Church says. “Next year maybe we can do a couple more.” He explains that used bikes, which have been the mainstay of the Welcome Center fleet over the years, have brokendown frequently. With the new bikes, there are no concerns about broken parts and it’s easy for borrowers to get around town. Church says he hopes in the future more new bikes will be donated for their ease of use and maintenance. Doug Wolcott says he enjoys his volunteer work at the Welcome Center and donating the new bikes was something he just wanted to do. “A lot of people use those bikes,” he says. “People come for a visit and ride around Brockport; students use them .. it’s great riding around here. It’s important to have good bikes available.”

Jim Hosford, who was volunteering on a recent late summer afternoon at the Welcome Center, noted that everyone is pleased to find the new bikes. “The college kids have been enjoying them,” he says. “We are grateful for the donations.” Hosford added that boaters along the canal tell him they enjoy stopping in Brockport - some say they like the fact it is the only stop they make along the canal that is within walking distance of a movie theater. To borrow a bike, visit the Welcome Center during open hours, provide a form of photo ID and sign out the bicycle of your choice. It must be returned before the Welcome Center closes for the day. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through October.

The College at Brockport’s incoming freshmen painted swing set poles at Evergreen Park, as Joe Blosenhauer, village parks committee member supervises.
6th Annual Saturday Day of Service Village benefits from College at Brockport students’ efforts in local parks On Saturday, August 29, about 40 incoming freshmen worked on a hot and sunny afternoon upgrading the landscape of the Village of Brockport parks. Supervised by college faculty and Parks Committee members, the young men and women from across New York state, took shovels in hand, weeded, pushed wheelbarrows, pulled tarps with wooden mulch to spread under playground equipment, and painted picnic table tops in Corbett Park. Other completed tasks included: painting yellow parking barriers and removal of weeds at Monika Andrews Children’s Park, and painting swing set posts at Evergreen Park. Each “frosh” put in approximately two hours of community service that day before their classes began. The Saturday Day of Service is a cooperative venture between The College at
Brockport and fifty organizations, agencies, churches, libraries, etc. throughout the Greater Rochester area, and is mandatory for over 2,000 freshman and transfer students. Richard Harris, Coordinator of Services and Community Building, College at Brockport, coordinated the parks’ projects with Linda Ketchum, Vice-Chair of the Village of Brockport’s Parks Committee. Thanks go to Bill and Joyce Connors, Sri Ram Bakshi, Mark and Linda Ketchum for use of their yards for storing equipment, Brockport’s Department of Public Works, and Parks Committee members Losh Spalla, Joe and Barbara Blosenhauer, Sandi Henschel, Hanny Heyen, and Linda Ketchum for their contributions in helping make the 6th Saturday Day of Service a success.

Friends of Hamlin Beach are for the birds The bluebirds, wrens, tree swallows, and purple martins, that is! Three volunteers from the Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park conduct an annual census of these birds. Jackie Galle, Maryann Hurlbut, and Jim Lugert monitor the nest boxes throughout Hamlin Beach State Park from April through August. They begin checking to see if any critters have inhabited the boxes during the winter, cleaning out the boxes and spraying them with a mild disinfectant. Then, they monitor the boxes to check for evidence of nest building. Once a week, the Friends check every one of the 36 bluebird boxes and 14 purple martin boxes in

their ‘condo,’ counting the eggs laid, chicks hatched and fledged. Several birds have two or three broods during the summer. This year, five nest boxes contained two broods, with a total of 96 bluebirds hatched. Tree swallows also used the bluebird boxes, occupying 11 boxes and fledging 67, A bluebird brood at Hamlin Beach while house wrens built State Park. Provided photo. nests in three houses. Over the summer, a house may be occupied by a bluebird after a tree swallow has successfully had a brood. Purple martins are very social birds and enjoy living near each other: thus, a purple martin ‘condo’ was erected next to the Park Office. Of the 14 units, nine were occupied this summer resulting in 17 chicks. The condo and the nest boxes will be taken down in the fall, cleaned, and stored for the winter, ready to go up again in the spring. The volunteers just completed their fourth year collecting statistics on the bluebirds, sending their results to the New York State Bluebird Society. The bluebird is New York State’s designated bird and numbers have been in decline, primarily because of competition for nesting sites by invasive sparrows. People across the state help in the restoration of the state bird by providing bluebird houses in their yards. Anyone interested in purchasing a bluebird house may contact the Friends of Hamlin Beach State Park at facebook.com/FOHBSP or hamlinbeach.org. Provided information

Muralist Stacy Kirby designed the illustration for the new Victorian Gateway, located at the Main Street Railroad Bridge.
New Victorian Gateway made possible for Brockport The Village of Brockport (Walk Bike Brockport and the Mayor’s Office) is wrapping up its Master Plan for Pedestrian and Biking Traffic in the greater Brockport area. This plan, once implemented, will lead to increased business for Brockport merchants - as demonstrated by research on the effects of plans like this. In addition, it will create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who lives in or drives through the historic Erie Canal Village of Brockport. As a follow-up to this plan’s completion, the village has launched a new project to transform the Main Street
Railroad Bridge into a Victorian Gateway to downtown historic Brockport. The plan, made possible by a $50,000 grant from the Genessee Transportation Council, requires additional financing. The village will apply for two grants to supplement needed funds, as well as accept donations through GoFundMe or by mail. Go to the GoFundMe website or write a check. Please send checks to Walk Bike Brockport, Brockport Village Hall, 49 State Street, Brockport, NY 14420. Provided information
Green Wood Park receives zoning variances by Kristina Gabalski Members of the Ogden Zoning Board October 1 granted four area variances on two lots for the Green Wood Park townhouse/apartment project, proposed for 27.5 acres near the northwest corner of Whittier Road and Westside Drive. The variances will allow for 9’ x 18’ size parking spaces; two front setbacks - one for 30’ where 60’ is required for 63 townhouses, and one for 44’ where 100’ is required for seven apartment buildings; and one side setback for 30’ where 60’ is required for one townhouse. Don Riley of Mark IV Development said the parcel has, “been zoned multi-family and fits with the town’s comprehensive plan.” He noted the plan includes a public road onto both Whittier Road and Westside Drive. Riley explained that the variances are driven by the design, “and pull townhouses as far away from neighbors as possible.” Developers are working with neighbors regarding landscaping which will ensure “privacy, safety and light
control,” Riley said. Four residents spoke during the public hearing regarding their concerns over retention/detention ponds, traffic, and drainage, but Zoning Board member Mark Young said the Zoning Board does not deal with those issues, only the requested variances. Noting that all variances requested are all within the Green Wood Park development, Zoning Board members gave their approval. On August 13, the Ogden Planning Board in a split vote, gave preliminary site plan approval to the project. Planning Board members expressed concerns over the density of the project, which they said could mean 400 more people in the neighborhood. Sixteen people spoke during a public hearing that evening, all not in favor of the project and stating concerns over traffic, drainage, loss of mature trees, privacy and streetlights. Don Riley assured Zoning Board members October 1, that developers will continue to work with neighbors to address questions and concerns.
