newsmakers Stacie Bridge of Churchville was recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year institutions of higher learning at Hudson Valley Community College. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is indicative of academic excellence. Those inducted are matriculated students who have met standards including a GPA of 3.71 or higher. The college’s Alpha Xi Sigma chapter recognizes and promotes scholarship, develops leadership, encourages service and cultivates fellowship among qualified students of the college. Bridge studies in the Health Information Management and Technology academic program at the college, and was one of nearly 50 Hudson Valley select students inducted into PTK this past semester. Bucknell University has released the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the 2016-17 academic year. A student must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher to receive dean’s list recognition. •Ross Pirnie, class of 2017 from Hilton •Kimberly Shust, class of 2018, from Rochester. SUNY Canton recognizes Cheyenne L. Bates of Spencerport for making the dean’s list during the Fall 2016 semester. Bates is a SUNY Canton Funeral Services Administration major and a 2014 graduate of Spencerport High School. The dean’s list is a mark of distinction and recognition of outstanding academic efforts and scholarship. This honor is awarded to full-time students who have earned a GPA between 3.25 and 3.74.

Local area residents have each been awarded scholarships to attend Alfred State. •Alexander Reber of Brockport was awarded a $73,160 “Excellence in Education Scholarship”. Reber is slated to graduate in 2017 from Brockport High School and intends to enroll in the graphic & media design (BS) program. •Nicholas Colucci of Churchville was awarded an $18,160 “All-American Scholarship”. Colucci is slated to graduate in 2017 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the mechanical engineering technology (BS) program. The “Excellence in Education Scholarship” (free tuition {equivalent to NYS tuition rate}, room {standard room, double occupancy}, and board {14meal plan}) is awarded to students who possess a 94 or better cumulative high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1310 combined reading/ writing and math new SAT (1250 combined critical reading and math old SAT) or a composite ACT score of 28; students must apply for financial aid. Recipients must maintain a required GPA to continue to receive funding in subsequent semesters. The “All-American Scholarship” (free board {14-meal}) is awarded to students who possess an 89 or better cumulative high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1220 combined reading/writing and math new SAT (1150 combined critical reading and math old SAT) or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.

Local area students earned president’s list honors during the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Canton. To receive president’s list honors, full-time students must earn a semester GPA of 3.75 or higher. Among those who received president’s list honors are: •Aimee A. Sangiorgi, a SUNY Canton Veterinary Technology major, from Brockport. Sangiorgi is a 2012 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School. •Amanda Fronckowiak, a SUNY Canton Finance major, from Spencerport. Fronckowiak is a 2014 graduate of Spencerport High School. Michael DeFranco of Spencerport, has been named to the Champlain College dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. Students on the dean’s list have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the semester. DeFranco is majoring in Game Design. Andrew Honan of Spencerport was named to the fall 2016 dean’s list at LeTourneau University. The dean’s list recognizes students who have achieved a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester. Andrew is studying Aircraft Systems. Malcolm Erdogan, of Spencerport, was named to the dean’s list at Lehigh University in the fall 2016 semester. Dean’s list status is awarded to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses. The University at Albany congratulates local area students who were named to the fall 2016 dean’s list. Students named to the dean’s list earned at least a 3.5 GPA. •Marisa May of Brockport •Dillon Philmon of Hamlin.

Elmira College released its dean’s list for Academic Achievement for the fall 2016 term. The dean’s list recognizes students that have a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Local area students include: •Elizabeth Patanella of Churchville •Kerri Patt of Spencerport. Anna Miller of Spencerport was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at Wheaton College. To earn dean’s list honors at Wheaton, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher. Nazareth College recognizes its December 2016 local graduates: •Olivia Case of Spencerport, received a bachelor of arts in psychology. •Heather Holland of Bergen received a bachelor of science in communication science & disorders. •Lauren Palmer of Spencerport received a bachelor of fine arts in visual communication design. •David Taddeo of Rochester received a bachelor of science in nursing. Jordan N. Mosele of Hilton received chancellor’s honor roll recognitition at University of Tennessee at Martin for the fall 2016. To be eligible for honors, a student must take at least 12 hours of credit (pass-fail courses are not included) and achieve a 3.2 (B) GPA.
