Marianne Swan of Hilton, earned provost’s list honors for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Oneonta. To qualify for the provost’s list, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more. Heather Hebert of the Oswego State women’s basketball team was named State University of New York Athletic Conference women’s basketball Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 15. Beginning with a midweek game against Cazenovia College on Tuesday afternoon, Hebert notched 16 points on an incredibly efficient 77.8 percent (7-of9) shooting from the field. The Lakers won the game by a score of 63-35, surrendering the fewest points to an opposing team since 2013 when they allowed 34 in a win (47-34) against Cortland. During a couple of games during the weekend against Plattsburgh and Potsdam, Hebert recorded two double-doubles. On Friday the senior tallied 18 points - on another efficient night from the field -making 8-of-13 attempted shots (61.5 percent). Hebert nearly matched her scoring output on the glass, as she cleared 15 boards, including five of the offensive variety. Against Potsdam, the Hilton native notched her highest scoring output of the week with 21 points. Hebert brought her efficiency to the charity stripe during this contest, nailing four of six shots she took. Meanwhile, she also collected 14 caroms.
John Cody Culhane, son of John and Sarah Culhane of Clarkson, graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University with a dual degree bachelors of science in accounting and finance from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, and a minor in information technology from the iSchool. Culhane made the dean’s list all eight semesters at Syracuse. In his junior year, Culhane was selected to participate in a two year analyst program called the Orange Value Fund. The students learn to apply a value investing philosophy for the $3 million fund. Culhane was inducted into SU’s Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society and the Golden Key International Honour Society. He also held multiple leadership positions in his national fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon. Upon graduation Culhane was offered and accepted a full-time analyst position at JP Morgan in their Global Asset Management Program in New York City. Culhane is a graduate of Brockport High School and resides in Manhattan.
John Cody Culhane Zachery Bringer from Brockport, has made the University of WisconsinWhitewater dean’s list for the 2016 fall semester. These students have demonstrated their academic abilities by receiving a GPA of 3.4 or above in a single semester.
Emily MacDonald has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at the University of Vermont. MacDonald, from North Chili, is majoring in biology in the College of Arts & Sciences. To be named to the dean’s list, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school. Alfred State has announced the dean’s list of local students for the fall 2016 semester. Students from both the Alfred campus and the School of Applied Technology campus in Wellsville are selected for the dean’s list if they maintain a 3.50 GPA.
