German, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announced the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership. •Jacob Napier from Hilton, and assigned to Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition) received a promotion to the rank of private 1st class. •Devin Mcgrath from Hamlin, and assigned to 222nd Military Police Company, received a promotion to the rank of specialist. Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential. These promotions additionally recognize the best qualified Soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard. Major General Anthony P. Scott Quick from Rochester, has reenlisted to continue service with the Headquarters and Service Company, 642nd Support Battalion. Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announced the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation. The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony February 12, 2017. Pvt. Dale Johnson from Brockport, was formally welcomed into the Company A, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry during a transition ceremony at the Patriot Way Soldier Readiness Center in Rochester. The ceremony marks the completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training. The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional National Guard service to state and nation as part-time Citizen Soldiers.

newsmakers SUNY Delhi student Jessica Heh of Rochester, was awarded a Dennis Callas Honors Scholarship in recognition of exceptional academic achievement. Heh is pursuing an associate’s degree in Veterinary Science Technology. The scholarships, which range from $1,000 to $2,500, are open to associate and bachelor degree students enrolled in SUNY Delhi’s Honors Program. Recipients are required to maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA throughout their Delhi careers. Casey White of Brockport has been cited for academic achievement for the fall 2016 semester at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi. White, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Resort Management, has qualified for the dean’s list. To qualify for the SUNY Delhi dean’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher within the semester. Kerri Patt of Spencerport was one of 28 students inducted into the Kappa Omicron Chapter of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemical Honor Society during a ceremony held February 10 at Elmira College. Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 at Davidson College. The original fraternity was created to promote academic excellence and undergraduate research scholarship in chemistry. In 1931, the fraternity became a co-educational honor society. Today, there are more than seventy active Gamma Sigma Epsilon chapters throughout the United States. The society is governed by a national executive council of elected officers and meets in biennial conventions for the purpose of governance, fellowship and scientific exchange. David Bocach, son of Carol and Dan Bocach of Hilton, was named to the dean’s list at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut for the third consecutive semester. He was accepted to the five year combined Bachelor’s/Master’s accelerated degree program in chemistry last March 2016. David has also been inducted into the International Foreign Language Honor Society at Sacred Heart University. The College of Saint Rose congratulates Marisa Benson of Hilton, for being named to the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. To make the dean’s list, Benson had to complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail.
Michael A. Palluconi of Spencerport has been selected for inclusion on St. Lawrence University’s dean’s list for academic achievement during the Fall 2016 semester. Palluconi is a member of the Class of 2020 and attended Spencerport High School. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have completed at least four courses and have a GPA of 3.6 for the semester. Anna Bondi of Rochester has qualified for the fall 2016 dean’s list. To make dean’s list, students must have at least a 3.4 GPA and can get no grade lower than a C. Hofstra University congratulates the following local students named to the fall 2016 dean’s list for their outstanding academic achievement. Samuel Guglin of Churchville has been awarded a $73,160 “Excellence in Education Scholarship” to attend Alfred State. He is slated to graduate in 2017 from Norman Howard School and intends to enroll in the mechanical engineering technology (BS) program. The “Excellence in Education Scholarship” (free tuition {equivalent to NYS tuition rate}, room {standard room, double occupancy}, and board {14-meal plan}) is awarded to students who possess a 94 or better cumulative high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1310 combined reading/writing and math new SAT (1250 combined critical reading and math old SAT) or a composite ACT score of 28; students must apply for financial aid. Recipients must maintain a required grade point average to continue to receive funding in subsequent semesters. Alex Knoepfler, son of John and Catherine Knoepfler of Hilton, achieved dean’s list with honors with a GPA of 3.70 to 3.99 for the fall semester of 2016 at The College at Brockport. Alex is a graduate of Greece Athena High School. Amanda Barron, daughter of Scott and Annette Barron of Hilton, achieved dean’s list with honors with a GPA of 3.70 to 3.99 for the fall semester of 2016 at The College at Brockport.
