Public info meeting on Urban Suburban program Feb. 3 The Spencerport Central School District will host an informational meeting on the Urban-Suburban InterDistrict Transfer program on Tuesday, February 3, at 7 p.m. in the Spencerport High School Performing Arts Center, 2707 Spencerport Road. According to a press release from the district, this public meeting will provide an additional forum to learn more about this program, present follow-up information requested by the Board of Education, and offer a third opportunity for community input. Superintendent Mike

Crumb stated, “This meeting will be part of the Board of Education’s continued process to consider our participation in the Urban-Suburban program. In the weeks leading up to this meeting, we plan to engage the leaders from U-S and participating districts to obtain their insight into questions raised on best practices, data/research on student performance, the program’s cultural impact to their schools, and revenue/expenses.” “Lastly, while there may be differing opinions, we also realize the importance of holding this additional

meeting to engage community input and encourage a respectful dialogue about the Urban-Suburban program as part of this review.” The Spencerport Central School District began its consideration of the Urban-Suburban Inter-District program in the early fall, primarily based on the district mission to prepare students for an ever-changing global community. The Urban-Suburban program, which has been in place for 50 years in Monroe County, directly supports this mission by providing more diversity and perspectives

within our schools. While the main intent for proposing Urban-Suburban was not financial, additional benefits include filling available spaces due to declining enrollment; maintaining academic opportunities; and generating revenue, according to the press release. For information on the Urban-Suburban program and its consideration in Spencerport, visit www. spencerportschools.org. Provided information

It may prove helpful to learn about how other cultures and religions observe the grieving process in hopes of better coming to terms with death. Jewish mourning rituals focus more on the bereaved than the body. By custom, the body is buried within 24 hours, if possible, without embalming, in a plain wooden coffin. Mourning centers on sitting “shiva in the home after a ritual healing meal. Survivors cut their clothing to symbolize the tear that death has produced in life. The entire family receives visitors while sitting in low chairs, with the intent of creating discomfort that symbolizes the experience of pain. Formal mourning may continue for 30 days, and

nearly a year if the deceased is a parent. A funeral is a meaningful event that can help ease the pain of separation that naturally accompanies death. It is a time of sharing good memories and experiences with family and friends. It is a time when respect, concern, and appreciation for a life that has been lived can be expressed in a sincere manner. For more information about the funeral services we offer, please call THOMAS E. BURGER FUNERAL HOME at 585-392-7100. We are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and we are located at 735 East Avenue. Family owned and trusted since 1976.

Oh most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin assist me in my necessity. Oh Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein, you are my mother. Oh Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in this necessity. (Make request). There are none that can withstand your power. Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3X). Holy Mother, I place this prayer in your hands (3X). Say this prayer for 3 consecutive days and then you must publish it, and it will be granted. Gratefully, W.H.

Plumbing Matters The plumbing is one of your home's most mysterious systems. The pipes are hidden in the wall, and when you have a problem, you have to call in a plumber. Plumbing repairs can be expensive, so prospective buyers are often frightened away by evidence of leaky pipes, ceiling stains below shower pans, or antiquated bathroom fixtures. If you are planning to sell your home, it is a good idea to solve your plumbing issues before you place it on the market. Take care of any cosmetic damage that leaks may have caused after the plumber has finished his work. Plumbing repairs are cost effective, and most agreements call for all systems, including the plumbing, to be in working order. If you have a problem, you will probably have to repair it before title transfer anyway, so by doing it ahead of time, you eliminate that issue. Plumbing that is in top condition will make your home appear to be well cared for and will make it more attractive to potential buyers.
