Jessica Pittman of Churchville has been awarded a $4,000 “Academic Distinction Scholarship” to attend Alfred State. Pittman is slated to graduate in 2017 from Churchville-Chili Senior High School and intends to enroll in the nursing (AAS/BSN) program. The “Academic Distinction Scholarship” is awarded to first-time freshmen students who possess an 87 or better cumulative high school average through the end of their junior year and who have achieved an 1140 combined reading/writing and math new SAT (1070 combined critical reading and math old SAT) or 23 composite ACT score. Miranda Williamson, daughter of Marlene and Rob Williamson of Spencerport, has been named to the spring 2016 dean’s list at St. John Fisher College. Williamson, a freshman, is a biology major. To be eligible for the dean’s list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.
Laura Redinger, daughter of Charles and Carolyn Redinger of Bergen, has achieved the dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester at SUNY Brockport. Redinger is a 2014 graduate of Byron-Bergen Central School. She plans to pursue teaching as a career objective.

in the service Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announced the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation. The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony January 22. •Pvt. Jonathan Pitre from Hamlin, was formally welcomed into the Company A, 2-108th Infantry during a transition ceremony at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester. The ceremony marks his completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training. The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional National Guard service to state and nation as part-time Citizen Soldiers.
