SUNY Oswego has awarded a Merit Scholarship to John S. Fichter of Hilton, recognizing past academic achievement and potential for success.

Fichter, whose major is undeclared at this time, last studied at Hilton Central High School.

SUNY Oswego honored more than 950 incoming freshmen with merit scholarships.

Rochester’s Timothy M. Draper Center of Dance Education swept the medals at the recent Indianapolis City Ballet Dance Competition. Judges from the nation’s top ballet academies presented medals for winning dancers and choreographers.

A standout at the competition was Draper student Abra Geiger, age 13 of Spencerport, daughter of Phil Geiger and Heather MacLean, who received the rare Grand Prix Prize.

Geiger also took gold in Junior Ladies Contemporary and Classical.

Judges awarded Draper Center instructor Stefanie Cheshire, of Spencerport, a silver medal for Contemporary Choreography.

Draper Center, official training school for Rochester City Ballet, prides itself on providing the highest level of classical ballet and dance training, while adhering to a curriculum that teaches formation of character and stresses standards of excellence applicable to all areas of life.

SUNY Oswego has made merit awards to a select group among the more than 200 transfer students who started at the college in fall 2017.

Gabriella M. Garcea of Westside Drive in Churchville received the Transfer Achievement Scholarship.SUNY Oswego’s merit awards recognize students’ past academic achievements and potential for success.

The awards are part of about $6 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego.

Kate West of Hilton is a member of the Transfer Living-Learning Communities (L-LC) at UAlbany.

L-LCs at UAlbany bring outstanding new transfers into a community of learners who live in the same residence hall, take some classes together, build a strong relationship with their L-LC lead professor, and study and participate in co-curricular activities around the theme or intended major of the L-LC. These students are engaged in their studies inside and outside of their classrooms. Student Engagement, housed in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, welcomed approximately 110 new transfers into L-LCs this fall.
