On September 26, 2016 Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich joined Federal and State Officials as well as members from the Army Corp of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency for a ceremonial ribbon cutting signifying the near completion of the Braddock Bay Ecosystem Restoration Project. The nearly complete project at Braddock Bay was a collective effort from agencies at the Federal, State and Local levels. Throughout the project the Town worked closely with the Army Corp of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in order to make sure that work done at the Bay was done efficiently and appropriately. The total cost of the project was $7.994 million which was awarded on October 6, 2015 by the Army Corp of Engineers to the Wesson Group LLC from Johnstown, New York. Funding for the project was available through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. “Restoration of Braddock Bay is well underway, and with the new navigation channel scheduled for completion this fall, we are stepping up efforts to restore our public marina to its former glory. Working with private partners, we are developing plans for a complete renovation and upgrade of the marina, starting with replacement of the docks. Brand new aluminum docks will be installed, with the first 100 slips operational for the 2017 boating season. Marina renovations will be phased over a few years and will include upgrades to parking, utilities, marina services, and other amenities including a ship store and food service. Braddock Bay’s unique mix of significant habitat and recreational boating opportunities is the focal point of the town’s waterfront area. This project has allowed the town to unlock its full potential as a premier waterfront community,” said Supervisor Reilich. Phase 1 of the job was completed in March of this year and consisted of the excavation of channels and potholes found within the existing marsh to help improve fish and wildlife habitat. Phase II entails construction of a 1600’ barrier beach across more than half of the mouth of the bay. The barrier beach will keep Lake Ontario wave action from further deteriorating wetland habitat, while at the same time preventing lake sediment from filling in the navigation channel. The relocated navigation channel will be operational in 2017. Provided Information and Photo

GreeceNewsNY.com Business of the Month Texas Bar-B-Q Joint by Barbara Burke
In 1977 Richard and Tina Mogab moved their family from Rochester, New York to Houston, Texas. They relocated to pursue careers, father Richard as a Master Plumber, mother Tina in Real Estate. They owned their own businesses and yearly the Mogabs entertained their family, friends, business associates and customers at their home by throwing an annual barbecue. Richard, as a hobby, built meat smokers. He developed his own recipes for, and the art of making great Texas BBQ. The conversation at the Mogab’s annual barbecue always included talk of one day opening a restaurant in the Rochester, New York area. The Mogab’s son Richard (Moose) moved back to Rochester in 2000 after graduating from Texas A&M University. In 2007 he convinced his mom and dad to return to Rochester to, “Make the dinnertime conversation into a reality.” In May of 2007 Taste of Texas Bar-B-Q, 122 S. Union Street, Spencerport, was born. The business is build on the BBQ skills the Mogab family developed with mesquite slow smoked meats, tender baby back ribs, beef brisket, hand-pulled pork, smoked chicken and southern homemade sides made with favorite family recipes including Moose’s Mac & Cheese, Aunt Clara’s Broc & Cheese, Sitti’s Baked Beans, Tina’s Potato Salad, Mama’s Fried Green Tomatoes and many more. Also on the menu are a NY Fish Fry, Beer Battered Shrimp and Grilled Salmon choices. There are traditional Southern favorites including Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken with Country Gravy. There are steaks, burgers, plates, soups, salads and of course, corn bread muffins. A complete Kid’s Menu is also available. Their Signature Dish, and what sets the now named Texas BarB-Q Joint apart from other BBQ restaurants, is the Outlaw Potato. An over one pound baked potato stuffed with butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon, and chives, piled high with your choice of bar-b-q beef, bar-b-q chicken, or pulled pork, sure to satisfy a Texas size appetite. In August 2014, they opened their 2nd location, the Outlaw Potato Shack, 3160 West Ridge Road (in the Lowe’s Plaza), Greece. The shack is a Drive-Thru location with a limited menu that features the Outlaw Potatoes, Ribs, Sandwiches, Sides and Salads. They focus on, “Great BBQ fast, even faster than fast food, with way better food.” In August of 2016 the third location was opened, a full service, full menu restaurant, RIT Restaurant, located at 200 Park Point Drive in Henrietta. All of the Texas Bar-B-Q Joint’s great food is made fresh daily at each restaurant location. Since 2004, Texas Bar-B-Q Joint has had a full service catering business. They offer a large variety of authentic Texas-style BBQ dishes. Texas Bar-B-Q Joint can cater large or small events, service for 10 to 1500 people. Sadly, in April 2016 father, Richard Mogab passed away after a short battle with lung cancer. Visit his tribute page on the Texas Bar-B-Q Joint’s website BBQRochester.com. For complete menus, to order online, schedule catering service, or for more information visit www. BBQRochester.com.

- A Novel by Diane Rivoli Chapter 34 LICENSE FOR A FIGHT The cell phone vibrating in Boyd’s pocket grabbed his attention and he pulled it out. Cell phones were off limits during work hours at Lymekiln Extrusions but Pam was well into her sixth month and if there was an emergency, Boyd had to be available. Sometimes, rules had to be broken. It was a text message, but it was not from Pam. It was from his brother, Tom! Tom? He hadn’t heard a thing from him in years and that was just fine with Boyd. What did they say - ‘You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family’? Yeah, unfortunately you were stuck with family whether you liked them or not. And that really sucked because if he could choose, Tom would never make the cut. He was about to ignore the text, delete it without even reading it, but something - Obligation? Responsibility? Family ties? - stopped him. ‘Bro! Am in town. Meet 4 lunch?’ ‘Where?’ ‘Bigwigs. Know it?’ Boyd had heard of it alright. It was a dump of a bar with a bad rep several blocks from Lymekiln Extrusions. In the sleazy part of town. Of course his brother would pick a dive like that. And did they even serve food there? ‘Thumbs down! Another place?’ ‘No. Already here. Not leaving.’ Damn it. He should just say forget it. Tell Tom to try again in another few years. But he couldn’t
do it. ‘Fine. B there 11:30’ ‘OK C U’ Boyd stamped the snow off his shoes and brushed the hair out of his eyes as he entered Bigwigs. The bar seemed almost completely dark after the bright white of the snowy day outside and Boyd peered into its dimly lit interior trying to see. As his eyes adjusted, he could see that it was an even dumpier dump than he had imagined it would be. And there was Tom, sitting at the bar, a pint of beer in one hand and four shot glasses, filled with varying shades of liquids ranging from golden amber to dark brown, arranged in a row before him. Boyd walked over, hung his coat on the back of a barstool and sat down next to his brother. “Ah! Here he is. The famous Boyd Boyd! Hero of all his mother’s hopes and dreams!” A lot of come backs to Tom’s sarcasm came to Boyd then. What he wanted to say was ‘And if it isn’t the family loser, come home to spread more shit.’ But he had more class than that. “Hey Tom,” Boyd said simply. “Did you know that there are four different growing regions in Scotland? There’s the Lowlands and the Highlands. And there’s Speyside and Islay. And did you know that each one those regions produces barley malt with a flavor unique to its area and from which they make distinctly different scotch whiskeys?” Tom’s words were slurred. Eleven thirty in the morning and he was already drunk. “And I really wanted to try those four different scotches. But this hole don’t carry top shelf stuff. So I’m pretending!” He waved his arm with a flourish in front of the four shot glasses. “What I’ve got here is a mystery! One of these might be scotch. Or maybe not! Maybe one is bourbon or rye! It’s a taste test, Boyd! continued on page 12

continued from page 10
And you are my rotgut tasting guinea pig.â€? “What the hell are you doing, Tom? I haven’t seen you in years and you’re sitting here blabbering about scotch whiskey. I can’t do shots right now! I’ve got to get back to work. This is supposed to be lunch we’re having here!â€? “Marko!â€? Tom called out, motioning to the bartender, “Bring us out a basket of fries! And a beer for my Bro! “There! Lunch will be coming right out! No need to get all hopped up! Now, on to the taste test! All you need to do is take a little sip out of each one.â€? And he picked up one of the shot glasses and shoved it up to Boyd’s lips. “Tom! Get that freakin’ glass out of my face!â€? Boyd started to say but as he opened his mouth to get the words out, Tom poured the whiskey in, squeezing Boyd’s mouth closed and forcing him to swallow before he loosened his grip. “You jerk!â€? Boyd sputtered, coughing and gagging. He felt like he had inhaled more of the whiskey than he had swallowed. Tom just laughed and started whacking Boyd on the back, presumably to help him get the booze out of his windpipe. “That’s it. I’m out of here. Next time you’re in town, be sure NOT to call me.â€? And Boyd started to get out of his seat. “Come on, Boyd! I’m just trying to have some fun. Loosen up. We used to have fun all the time when we were kids. Remember when‌.â€? And Tom began talking about their childhood, when things had been good between them, and Boyd sat back down. They started having an agreeable conversation, chuckling and laughing, as
memories of their boyhood days surfaced and were shared. Once upon a time, Tom had been Boyd’s best friend. He had always been a little on the wild side, someone that had a hard time knowing when enough was enough, but he had still been a good kid. And then, inexplicably, he had changed. He became surly, disrespectful and remote. Calls came in the middle of the night. Tom was in jail. Come bail him out. Fighting, vandalism, robbery. Drugs and alcohol entered the picture and they would find their wallets thinner and their credit cards missing as Tom pilfered from his own family to support his habits. Their parents went to the ends of the earth trying to figure out what had gone wrong and find ways to try and help Tom. There were counselors and rehab programs. Nothing worked. You can’t help someone that won’t help themselves. You can’t save someone that doesn’t want to be saved. Tom hurt and betrayed his family for their efforts. Boyd would hear his mother, and even his father, crying in the middle of the night, devastated at what their youngest son had become. And Boyd wondered how it could have happened. How could the brother that had been his best friend morph into something that barely bore any kind of resemblance at all to a decent human being? Right now though, at this moment, he seemed like the old Tom again, the good Tom. And Boyd was glad.

Greece Blue Knights Making History by Tami Raco On Sunday, September 25, 2016, The Greece Marching Band, Blue Knights, hosted their first ever Marching Olympiad, a competition showcasing many of the talented bands in the New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC). The turnout was exceptional with over 900 people in attendance including competing band members, their support staff and fans of the marching arts from districts such as Auburn, LeRoy, Webster, East Irondequoit, Hilton and Greece. Greece’s Blue Knights are a competitive field band ensemble made up of students in grades 7-12 in the Greece Central School District. The members represent all six of the middle and high schools in Greece. Greece Marching Band has been competitive in the NYSFBC for 10 years. Each year they have grown into a stronger band, scoring higher and climbing the ranks of the conference. Field bands perform a choreographed routine combining mu-
sicianship and athleticism. Shows are performed either on the football field during half time or in a competition setting. The performance is about 8 minutes long made up of 3-4 movements of music that tell a story. The band consists a front-end ensemble, including instruments like marimbas and large drums; the brass, such as trumpets and trombones; the woodwinds including saxophones and flutes, and the drum line with marching snare, bass and tenor drums. A color guard brings it all together by adding visual effects, dance, flag work, and rifle tosses. Shows are judged at each weekly NYSFBC contest. Points are given for General Effect Visual, Ensemble Visual, Field Visual, General Effect Music, Ensemble Music and Field Music. On October 30, 2016 the Blue Knights will compete in the finals at the Syracuse Carrier Dome. More information can be found at www.NYSFBC.org. A Conversation With Harriet Tubman
Another remarkable program by The Greece Historical Society was experienced by a large crowd on October 11, 2016 at the Greece Public Library. Historian Magelene Moore-Holley shared stories of Harriet Tubman through her personification of this American woman, abolitionist, humanitarian, scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War. Through Tubman’s thirteen rescue missions she helped approximately seventy enslaved families and friends using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. A lively question and answer session followed Magelene Moore-Holley’s presentation. Questions included MooreHolley’s feelings about current racial tensions to which she commented that individuals should, “think about what they are doing before they act, and never resort to violence.” For more information about the Greece Historical Society’s free public programs, exhibits and special events visit www.greecehistoricalsociety.net.
Town of Greece Awarded $175K Grant to Combat Zombie Properties The Town of Greece applied for and has been awarded a $175,000 grant to combat and maintain zombie properties within the town. The Grant provided by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a not for profit, is one of the largest organizations across the county supporting projects to revitalize communities. The grant will provide necessary funding to continue on the Town’s already aggressive approach when dealing with vacant and abandoned properties. On April 18, 2016, the Town Supervisor and the Greece Town Board adopted the toughest ordinance in the area to deal with the issue of vacant and abandoned properties, commonly referred to as Zombie properties. That ordinance established a registry whereby the Town receives notice of vacant properties and useful contact and property maintenance information that has served as a valuable tool to our code enforcement team. The ordinance further requires banks or lenders who commence a foreclosure proceeding in the Town to give prompt notice and provide a cash bond or letter of credit in the amount of $10,000 to secure the continued maintenance and safety of the property. To date, the Town has received nearly $2,000,000 in cash bonds and letters of credit, which has served as incentive for lenders to bring quick resolution to any property maintenance issues. Lastly, the ordinance created increased penalties for owners of vacant and abandoned structures that are repeatedly noncompliant with the existing property maintenance code. Following adoption of this ordinance the Town of Greece
contracted with Community Champions, a third party company that creates and maintains this vacant property registry at no cost to the Town or its taxpayers. The revenue collected by this company is simply a percentage of the administrative registration fee charged to banks and lenders upon registration. Since this vacant property ordinance was adopted, communities from across the area and throughout New York State began reaching out to the Town of Greece expressing interest and seeking information. In response, Supervisor Bill Reilich hosted a Zombie Property Forum on June 1, 2016 with 40 local community leaders from nearly all of Monroe County’s towns, villages and the city of Rochester, as well as local code enforcement personnel from the Town of Cheektowaga and Erie County. At the meeting, the Town of Greece shared the details of the recently adopted local law and highlighted the necessary tools needed for municipal code enforcement departments to address and enforce existing property maintenance codes. “Since passing our own aggressive Zombie Property law earlier this year, the Town has seen early successes with the proper maintenance and care of abandoned homes within our town. While our effort is strong, we continue to find new sources of funding that support our effort to combat zombie properties. The 175k grant from Local Initiatives Support Corcontinued on page 27

Skydiving Couple Keep Trevor’s Spirit Alive by Tami Raco
Kathy and Pete George had a happy family life with their three sons and daughter. On August 21, 2014 they woke to one of the worst nightmares a parent can experience. They found that their perfectly healthy six year old son Trevor had passed away in his sleep. Trevor was a vibrant healthy boy who had no prior health issues. This sudden unexpected death of their son shattered the George’s world. To lose a child is one of the most devastating experiences a parent can live through, not knowing what caused the death compounds the pain and grief beyond comprehension. Trevor’s death was later diagnosed as SUDC, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood, it is the sudden and unexpected death of a child over the age of 12 months which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation is conducted. The investigation must include examination of the death scene, performance of a complete autopsy, and a review of the child and family’s medical history. SUDC is a diagnosis of exclusion given when all known and possible causes of death have been ruled out. SUDC is very similar to SIDS in infants. It’s considered by some medical experts as the lesser known cousin of SIDS. SUDC is extremely rare, with a reported incidence in the United States of 1.2 deaths per 100,000 children, compared to 54 deaths per 100,000 live births for SIDS. Trevor’s Mom, Kathy (Oberg) George maintained her friendship from her Greece Athena high school years with Jennifer (Butterworth) Kron. Jenny and her husband Matt Kron are a Greece couple who met in grade school. They began dating in their 20s and married a few years later. Skydiving is very much a part of the couples life. They became professional skydivers with over 1000 skydives each, and even had a skydiving wedding. The loss of Trevor sent tremors of devastation to the George’s friends, family and the community. It was especially devastating to the Kron family who also have children of similar ages. Jenny says, “Something like this forces you to stand back and realize that a healthy and laughing child can go to bed and the next day you wake to find out they have died. This puts you down on the floor with no time to prepare. It’s like getting hit by a Mac Truck.” Trevor was a six year old boy with a loving heart and the bravery of a super hero. He loved super heroes, collected super hero toys and liked being part of random acts of kindness. Approximately six months after Trevor passed, Jenny and Matt had an idea on how to help be part of keeping Trevor’s spirit alive. They asked Kathy and Pete if they could have one of Trevor’s super hero figurines so that they could take it with them on their adventures and sky diving. It seemed like a great way to honor Trevor’s super hero sized heart and it represents a piece of Trevor’s life that the Krons can take with them as they go out on

adventures. “Trevor missed out on so many opportunities in life and this is a way his spirit can live on in adventures as we honor his memory,” Jenny said. Kathy and Pete loved the idea. In early 2016 they gave the Krons Trevor’s Batman action figure which he loved very much. In May Trevor’s Batman had his first adventure as he rappelled down the First Federal Plaza with Matt. On July 4th Batman experienced his first skydive with Matt, he attached Trevor’s Batman to him as he soared through the sky with Trevor’s spirit alive. Batman has plenty more adventures planned including a Zombie Paintball hayride. Trevor’s family feels grateful for Jenny and Matt’s ability to keep their son alive through their adventures. They find much joy in seeing Trevor’s life celebrated. To continue in celebrating Trevor’s beautiful heart his family started “Trevor’s Toes and Tushies” a sock and underwear drive. A child may appear well dressed on the outside, but lack clean socks and underwear. This drive is aimed to help by filling a gap left by regular clothing drives. The family volunteer group is collecting new packaged socks and underwear for needy children in the area. The drive is held annually in Trevor’s honor. Trevor attended every community service project that his family was involved with, wearing a smile on his face, a sparkle in his eye and a desire to make others happy. He loved wearing mismatched socks, making new friends and random acts of kindness. This seemed like the perfect way for Trevor’s name to continue, carrying on his generous spirit. For more information on Trevor’s Batman adventures and how to participate in the sock and underwear drive visit Treasuring Trevor Facebook page or http://sudc. org/trevor

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes Begin their Journey at Lakeshore Community Church The Rwandan genocide that decimated his people happened just before Yves Dushime was born in the Congo — born as his family was fleeing to safety in Togo, West Africa. There he grew to be an angry eleven-yearold boy, who trusted no one. One day, a volunteer from Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, handed him a gift-filled shoebox and his life changed. How could it be that someone from across the world, who did not know him, decided to send him this wonderful box, packed with things he needed and toys to enjoy? How did it get to him? Why? Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian international relief organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has sent over 135 million shoeboxes filled with toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to children like Yves. Yet this massive, international undertaking begins in the hearts of people, in homes like those right here in Greece, New York. In early fall, moms and dads, kids and teens, individuals, members of organizations and churches begin to gather items to fill these shoeboxes. The first leg of the journey for well over 1000 of these boxes begins at Lakeshore Community Church, 3651 Latta Road, Greece. According to Sue Strowe, Lakeshore’s Relay Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, National Collection Week (November 14-21, 2016) brings deliveries from 11 plus churches, individuals, businesses, and scout troops in Greece to Lakeshore Church. Here, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. during the week, and all day Saturday and Sunday, volunteers prepare the boxes for shipment. Sue welcomes help from Lakeshore’s youth group, middle school students from Greece Christian School, as well as a woman and her sister who join the team every year. Thanks to a member of Lakeshore Community Church, who donates the rental of a truck, several trips bring all those boxes to Webster. They will then travel to Boone, North Carolina, one of the final processing centers on U.S. soil. From there they leave for their final destinations, where trucks, canoes, and even donkeys bring these shoeboxes to children in desperate situations in 150 countries. One of the gifts the young Yves discovered in his shoebox was a scarf. He had no use for it in Africa, but kept it anyway. It comes in handy now that he lives in Buffalo, New York. Who knows...Perhaps a resident of Greece had been

The Greece Storm Wrestlers… Four High Schools-One Team
GreeceNewsNY.com November 2016 21
by Tami Raco
Wrestling has been part of the Greece High Schools since the 1970s. For over 40 years the wrestling program has been made up of three separate teams, each high school had their own individual team. In 2012 a decision was made under the direction of Head Varsity Coach John Bonaldi to bring the programs together and have all four high schools form a stronger and more competitive team called the Greece Storm Wrestling. More than 55 wrestlers are on the Greece Storm team grades 7th through 12th. Greece Storm has seven experienced coaches. The acting head Varsity Coach is Sam Riveria, a former Rush Henrietta wrestler. Greece Storm competes in Section V, Divison 3. Wrestling practices begin on November 7th and take place at Olympia High. Home matches take place at Arcadia High. The
season runs November through January with the Super Sectionals taking place in January. The NYS tournament takes place in February. The program has minimal expense to the family with the only requirement being wrestling shoes. Coaches and wrestlers are looking forward to a very good year in wrestling. Coach Sam Rivera says, “This new era of Greece Wrestling represents a change for an even stronger team.” For more information on Greece Storm wrestling visit http:// greecestormwrestling.net/ or find them on Facebook.

Should Investors Avoid “Great Expectations? The investment environment of the past few decades has generally been positive – but we’ve also seen a lot of ups and downs in the financial markets. This volatility may well continue, so you need to prepare yourself. First, don’t count on high returns throughout your years of investing. Try to “bake in” reasonable return expectations into your long-term investment strategy. Also, don’t make rash moves in an attempt to beat the market. If you invest overly aggressively, you could take on too much risk. However, you should contribute as much as you can afford to your 401(k) and IRA. The earlier you start, the more years you’ll be giving your investments to potentially grow. Finally, be open to working longer. You can beef up your retirement accounts and possibly even delay taking Social Security, which will mean bigger monthly payments later. You can’t always count on high returns from your investments – but if you can count on yourself to make the right moves, you can still make progress toward your financial goals.

Greece Rotary 3rd Grade Dictionary Project During the week of October 3-11, 2016, the Greece Rotary Club presented dictionaries to 3rd grade students in Greece and Hilton Schools. Rotarians presented dictionaries to 13 schools during a 30 minute presentation program which included a magic show by Greece Rotarian and magician Bill Gormont, a welcome by Greece School District personnel, and a short introduction by Senator Joe
Robach. The intent of the program is to provide all 3rd graders in the community with their own personal dictionary. The dictionary is theirs to keep and to take with them throughout their school career. Funding for the project comes from a NYS grant. Provided Information Photos by Karen Fien

Zombie Properties continued from page 17
poration is a great addition to our already strong zombie property initiative and will aid in the continued efforts to properly maintain these neglected structures and turn them over to potential buyers in the future.” said Supervisor Reilich. In addition to strict code enforcement on properties throughout the town; Supervisor Reilich instituted dedicated court time to deal with property maintenance issues. Greece Administrative Judge David Michael Barry oversees this court which typically deals with over 100 cases each month. This is another method the town has put in place to insure that properties that fail to meet our code standards are dealt with in a timely manner. The grant received from LISC will go towards necessary funding within the towns already stalwart Zombie Property initiative. The overall grant will go towards the hiring of additional code enforcement officer, a foreclosure prevention service that helps at risk residents who are facing foreclosure of their home to help find ways to keep them in their homes, as well as outreach initiatives to help educate Greece residents on what to do to report a problem with a Zombie property and directing any at-risk residents to work with the foreclosure prevention services. Supervisor Reilich believes that this three pronged approach of increased compliance, counseling and education will have a significant and lasting impact on the problem of Zombie homes in our town.

With the beautiful autumn foliage season upon us in the Northeast it’s a great time to begin to reap the benefits of a hike on a nature trail. Outdoor hikes can bring you both physical and psychological benefits. Walking or hiking is a great way to get your body moving, increase your heart rate and burn extra calories. There are many more benefits to getting out on the trails than just the physical ones. Studies have shown that more time spent outdoors walking and hiking in green spaces can significantly decrease cortisol levels and increase the body’s immune system defense. Scientific Studies have shown that exercising or walking in natural outdoor environments can provide remarkable benefits for overall health. Walking in nature promotes positive emotions and heightened physical and mental energy and better health. Research shows that spending time within a nature setting can reduce psychological stress, depressive symptoms and hostility. It can also improve sleep and feelings of liveliness. Physical indications such as lower cortisol levels, lower blood pressure and pulse rate were proven. Studies also indicate there is an increase in heart rate variability which is a good sign as it means the circulation system is responsive and can detect the dominance of the calming branch of the system. Some studies have even indicated that the more time spent in nature, especially a forest type setting, increases the body’s NK (natural killer) cells which are used by the body to fight cancer. Numerous studies have shown that even just having the view of a forest of living plants and trees can help patients in hospitals recover better and less pain medication is needed. Work spaces with living plants have a lower incidence of sick time. In a recent study of prison settings there was a glaring difference in inmate’s health based on their cell location. Cells that were facing the outside to view green farmlands or forests had far fewer visits to the medical division than those inmates who were housed in the inner half of the prison facing concrete yards. With the recent announcement that the Town of Greece will receive 3.4 million in funding to extend the walking trails between the 390 expressways to the Erie Canalway Trail, residents will have more opportunities to go out and reap the healthy mind and body rewards of Trail Therapy. “…a turn or two I’ll walk, To still my beating mind.” (Tempest act 4, sc. 1) Shakespeare

Greece Paint Players will present “The Lady Who Cried Fox,” a comedy by Edward Clinton, for their Fall Dinner Theatre directed by Angie Kananen. Join us and our fabulous five cast members: Dave Kunz, Lisa Wolf, LuAnn Bement, Rosario Rinaudo and Dan Hoak for an evening of delicious food, fun, and laughter. The play was written in 1975 and the comedy starts on page one and moves along quickly. When a jealous actor who is always on the road finds out his wife has taken on a young male roommate to meet expenses, the show does not go on. He immediately returns home to find out what is happening. The roommate, an inventor who likes to roller skate, is caught in the middle between a jealous husband and frustrated wife. Eventually, all five of the characters get into the act and the result is just plain fun, with mentions of Anita Bryant, Bing Crosby and Howard Johnsons. Show dates are: Fridays, November 4, 11 and 18, 2016; Saturdays, November 5 &12, 2016 and Sundays: November 13 & 20, 2016. For more information and reservations call Carol 225-2419 or Angie 865-9742. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Newly Constructed Braddock Bay Lodge 1 On October 3, 2016, Supervisor Reilich was joined by Greece Town Board Members Michael Barry Jr., Brett Granville, and Andrew Conlon in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly constructed lodge at Braddock Bay Park. Located at the heart of Braddock Bay Park, the new lodge comes complete with a full chef’s kitchen including sink, range, microwave and refrigerator, tables and chairs that can seat up to 99 guests, as well as a covered and open porch. Lodge 1 is conveniently situated among plenty of open space which includes a playground, walking trails, hawk watch and stunning views of Braddock Bay. “Here in the Town of Greece we take great pride in our parks and the many great amenities they provide for our residents. While running for office I made a pledge to our residents that we would take a good town and make it great. Today’s ribbon cutting ceremony of the newly constructed Braddock Bay Lodge 1 is a culmination of planning for the future and providing new facilities for families, businesses, and residents to utilize. With over 30 confirmed rentals, Braddocks Bay Lodge 1 is on the path to becoming one of the most successful lodges in our parks system. I encourage everyone stop by Braddock Bay Park and take a look at this great addition,” said Reilich. Reservations for the new lodge, in addition to current town lodges, can be completed online or in person at the Greece Community Center. Please call 723-2425 or visit www.greeceny.gov<http://www.greeceny.gov> for details and reservations. Provided Information and Photo

From the office of The Supervisor, Bill Reilich A season we all know very well here in Western New York is Fall. While the changing of the leaves is great for pictures and other outdoor fall activities, clean up can be laborious. That is why the Town is pleased to offer every fall season, leaf curb side pickup. Leaf collection will occur through December 9th. If you are unaware of the leaf pick-up schedule please visit our town’s website www. greeceny.gov and under the residents tab at the top right corner of the screen click leaf/brush pick- up for the full schedule and collection map. As a side note, leaf bags must be out at the curb the day before your assigned pick up to avoid your house being missed during this collection process. Recently, the Town held a ribbon cutting for the newly constructed Braddock Bay Lodge. Reservations for the new lodge, in addition to current town lodges, can be completed online or in person at the Greece Community Center. Please call 723-2425 or visit www. greeceny.gov for details and reservations. On a final note, mark your calendars for our Town’s Annual Family Halloween Party at the Community and Senior Center, Friday October 28th from 6:00pm till 8:00pm. The event will feature a haunted house, games, crafts, DJ “Rockin Rick” dance party, and pizza. For more information regarding this event please contact our town’s community and senior center for more information. As always, I enjoy hearing feedback from residents about programming and other Town-related issues. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office by calling 723-2311 or visit our website. Keep on the look-out for additional details regarding town sponsored events and news on my Facebook page.
