Evan & Hayley OUR STORY

Wedding planner: M. Elizabeth Events | Caterer: Southern Way | Photography: Sposa Bella Photography

Evan and I met in a non-traditional way, through the dating app Tinder. While it’s slightly embarrassing to admit, it’s our story!

Our first date was at Pearlz Oyster Bar in downtown Columbia. We shared dozens of oysters (I think Evan underestimated just how much I actually loved oysters) and great conversation over several hours.

Quickly after our first date, we were inseparable. Our relationship is very much a case of “opposites attract”. Evan is an easygoing, always happy guy with an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. I on the other hand am a Type A, very high strung person who is constantly running around. Early in our relationship I dubbed Evan as the “calm to my crazy” and to this day, it couldn’t be truer. Seven months after our first date, Evan asked me to marry him. I am impossible to surprise, and Evan is a not-so-great liar, so I’ll be honest and admit that I ruined his first attempt at proposing! For his second attempt, he told me that we were going to a party at his grandfather’s house in the mountains. He proposed on a beautiful spot overlooking the mountains. He had even coordinated to have our families waiting at his grandfather’s house to celebrate (there was no actual party). Evan actually proposed on Halloween. I told Evan that I did not want to do anything for the holiday, as it is my least favorite holiday and I do not enjoy celebrating it. He decided to propose on Halloween so that from now on October 31 is the anniversary of our engagement, not just Halloween. I have been dreaming of my wedding day my entire life. I had so many ideas and quickly jumped into planning mode. There were certain things for my wedding that I had to have. First, I knew I wanted to have the reception at my parent’s house. This was something so important to me, to have this special day take place at my home where I grew up. I also knew I wanted a big southern wedding and a big dress! Luckily, with the help of my mom and a fabulous wedding team, our wedding day was better than anything I could have ever imagined. Everything came together and it truly was the best day of our lives.

Their Story - Jack and Meghan met on March 1, 2014 at Clemson University. She was the Executive Director for Clemson Miracle, a program that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network, and was hosting a 12 hour event to celebrate their donation efforts as a University. As host of the event, Meghan invited Shane Sniteman, a singer living in Nashville and a life long friend of Jack, to come to the event and perform. Shane brought Jack along to the event with him to enjoy the event, with the promise he would have the opportunity to meet many girls.Jack is a born and raised Gamecock fan; he was reluctant to go to an event at his rival school. Much to his surprise, Jack loved the event and even stayed a few extra hours once he was introduced to Meghan. At the end of the event, he asked her for her phone number and asked her out the following Thursday. His incredible smile, good looks and southern gentleman attitude won over Meghan immediately. On April 18, 2015, after a year of dating, Jack proposed to Meghan at the Biltmore Estate and she accepted to be his wife. Meghan and Jack got married on June 4, 2016 at The Bleckley Inn in Anderson, SC on the most perfectly beautiful day. As a tribute to their relationship’s beginning, Jack wrote the lyrics to their first dance song and invited Shane as his Best Man to perform the song for them at the wedding. The couple currently lives in Charleston, SC and are loving life as a newlyweds.

Kate + Rakan Presented by Th e G r e e nv i l l e Ce n t e r f o r C r e a t i ve A r t s

WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH STYLE

Their Story - Introduced through a mutual friend, Kate and Rakan connected over dinners and a rainy outdoor concert. One evening visiting Hotel Domestique, Rakan proposed in front of the mountains at sunset. Sharing a love for nature and art, their wedding venue reflected both as they selected Greenville Center for Creative Arts, located within the historic Brandon Mill, as the location. Since Kate is a founding Studio Artist at Greenville Center for Creative Arts, Kate and Rakan felt as though GCCA was the perfect space that allowed them the creative freedom to design a unique and artistic ceremony and reception. Joel Kirby and Curly Willow Designs captured their aspiration for the night, creating a world within that reflected both Kate’s jewelry design and Rakan’s Arabic ancestry. In the 4,000 sq ft. art gallery, the wedding ceremony magically unfolded and commenced in front of the audience as a one-night only performance art piece. Upstairs in the second floor loft, the Curly Willow Design Team transformed the space to accommodate a six piece band, biergarten, dining and dancing for 250 of Kate and Rakan’s family and friends.

Caroline + Andy Presented by Timberock at Hopkins Farm

The Love Story: Caroline and Andy first met as students at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. While the two never dated in college, they were simply acquaintances with many overlapping best friends. By chance, Caroline and Andy reconnected a few years later in Greenville, SC during Fall for Greenville at a piano bar, Jack and Diane’s, and they hit it off immediately. Andy eventually asked her out on a date, and the two went to a Mexican restaurant, where he found out just how much Caroline loves queso! The Planning Process: Even before Caroline ever met Andy, she had always planned to get married at her family’s home place. She and her dad spent hours planning the ceremony site, deciding to build a new structure at the pond, and Andy built the cross for the belvedere. With the help of wedding planner and coordinator Brenda Luginbill of CB Events and Industry Event Rentals, they structured a plan that included exposing wedding guests to multiple areas of their farm and home. The invitations were ordered from Gage’s in Greenville and a dear friend of the Hopkins addressed the envelopes with her calligraphy. The Wedding Day: Details and the timeline of June 11, 2016 were extremely important to Caroline and Andy as their ceremony was scheduled for high noon. Caroline and her attendants were up before sunrise having their hair and makeup done at Hopkins Farm. The bridal attendants wore black lace Adrianna Pappell cocktail dresses from Bella Bridesmaids Greenville. Caroline wore a gown of French guipure floral lace designed by Hayden Olivia Bridal in Charlotte, and a veil worn by her great-grandmother in 1906. Andy and his groomsmen, in ivory white dinner jacket tuxedos, monogrammed suspenders, and personalized socks, traveled from the Hyatt to Hopkins Farm that morning. When they arrived, they dug up a bottle of bourbon that the couple had buried a month earlier: a southern tradition meant to ensure that no rain falls on the wedding day. The bourbon was then served at the cigar bar designed and built by the groom. Caroline and Andy shared a “first look” at the Belvedere, and all wedding party and family photographs were able to be taken by Patrick Cox before the wedding guests arrived. An hour before the ceremony, guests were treated to muffins, mimosas, and music by Wirewood at the Pond Overlook. They were escorted along the pond and down to the belvedere for the ceremony by a bagpiper which is a Presbyterian College tradition. The Reverend Shawn Hevener officiated and music was provided by Classic Touch, a string quartet, and featured vocalists and friends of the couple, Daniel and Taylor Randall Marlatt. After the ceremony, guests walked up through the pecan grove where they were treated to mint juleps, charcuterie, and music before being received by the couple and the bride’s parents into the Hopkins home where Ruth McDaniel provided piano music. A family friend arranged lovely floral decorations in the house using crystal vases and containers of the home. Guests then entered the gardens for a Plantation Luncheon featuring marinated grilled tenderloin of beef, sautéed quail and cheese grits, smoked turkey, and creamy macaroni and cheese provided by Aberdeen Catery, of Camden, SC, and served on their antique china. The reception carried out the black and white theme with linen covered tables. Florals for the wedding and reception were arranged by Renee Burroughs Design. A six-tiered wedding cake was designed by The Bakery off Augusta to match the lace of Caroline’s bridal gown. The Charleston Groove Factory entertained with great music for dancing under a large sailcloth tent: the first time used in the Upstate. The newlyweds drove off in her father’s 1931 A Model. June 11, 2016 was truly the most special day we have ever had at Hopkins Farm. Caroline married her prince charming and the wedding day of all of our dreams became a reality!

Their Story - Sam and Christina met in 2012 through a close mutual friend. They both knew before long that they wanted to build a life together. With familial roots in the textile mills of the Upstate, using the beautiful and airy loft space of the Greenville Center for Creative Arts in the historic Brandon Mill held a special significance to them. Christina’s lifelong friend, Jed Dearybury, acquired the necessary credentials so that he could marry them and the couple wrote their own vows and ceremony that also included the children.

Their Story - Their Story- Kevin and Angie met in the first grade. After eighteen years of convincing, Kevin finally broke through and sealed the deal. Their quaint ceremony and reception was held at the new venue Southern Bleachery at the Old Taylors Mill. It just so happens Angie is a wedding planner and florist in Greenville along with her mother at Culpepper Designs located on Main Street in Taylors. Kevin and Angie left the trend of the large weddings behind and had an intimate ceremony following with a large reception upon their return from their honeymoon. It was quite a party with Laurenda’s catering providing their exquisite food, paired perfectly with the couples personality.

Kelsea + Scott Presented by Indigo Hall

Their Story -Scott and I met on Lake Bowen back in Junior High. After High School, Scott had a boat and I lived on the lake. Scott came by the house while I was swimming with some friends and I asked him to teach me to wakeboard and it all started there. Since then, we have loved the lake so much; we are building our dream home on Lake Bowen. Our ceremony was set for September 2015, however, my grandmother became ill and the outlook was not good. We called all of our vendors and explained the situation. Everyone could not have been more helpful and we set the date for June 27, 2015. My grandmother was able to be a part of our wedding, but unfortunately lost her battle with cancer of September 16 of 2015. Unique aspects of the wedding- It was planned in 5 weeks. The Father/Daughter dance was unique because my Dad recorded “Butterfly Kisses” for our song. He used to sing this to me when I was a baby. My husband built the arch we placed on the stairs in the outdoor gardens from pallets and my Mom placed all the decorations on it. For our unity, we got a family Bible from my grandmother and each set of parents signed it around a verse that they committed to pray over us and our marriage. Scott and I also picked a verse to sign as our commitment to pray for one another. Our parents surprised us at the end of our wedding video; they all had recorded something for us to watch that told us how proud they were and giving their best wishes and prayers. Instead of signing a guest book, we had our guests sign a wooden chair we got from Unclaimed Furniture (our family business) and it’s now something we get to see every day and not something we just threw in the attic.

Carly + Sean P r e s e n te d by N ove l i We d d i n g P h o to g ra p hy

Their Story - After dating for 3.5 years, Sean planned a party to have Carly’s family over on July 4th (also the anniversary of their first kiss). During a game of Jimmy Fallon’s Whisper Challenge, Carly had to read Sean’s lips while wearing head phones and listening to “Shut up and Dance”. Instead of naming the song, Sean mouthed the words “Will you marry me?” and Carly spit out as confident as ever “Red Robbin!!” After some laughs from family and after a few attempts, Sean got down on one knee and proposed. Special Moments - The Wedding was filled with so many magical moments. The most touching moment was shortly before the ceremony, when Sean and Carly spoke to each other from behind a door. The emotions of that moment were incredible.

WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH STYLE

In the Bride’s Own Words - Our love story began in November 2011 right in our hometown, Greenville, South Carolina. Randomly out with friends one night, I never thought I would have met the love of my life. As soon as we made eye contact, there was this spark that I have never experienced before with a complete stranger. Being so busy and a first year teacher, my schedule was never an inopportune moment. Jimmy, who has a heart of gold decided to give me one more chance. We are both glad he gave me that last chance because we have been inseparable ever since. Fast forward to June 2015, Jimmy mesmerized me by getting on one knee, asking me to marry him on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. It was deck 10 to be exact (haha... I will never forget!) June 25, 2016, two families became one and I married my best friend. We have never been so blessed.

WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH STYLE

Their Story - Christine Faust Events worked closely with the couple to design a celebration that allowed their friends to gather in a comfortable festive environment. Guests mingled under a classic white tent on the horse farm where Kevin spent his summers growing up before strolling over to a secluded glen for the ceremony performed by a close friend. The thoughtful words and hilarious anecdotes were only a prelude to the heartfelt personal vows that were shared. After a casual Frolic Hour of lawn games the group sat down to a delicious buffet dinner crafted by Good Life Catering of southern specialties with a gourmet flair. The armillary used to seal their proposal inspired table decorations custom made for the occasion. Long banquet tables were topped with butter soft plaid flannel table runners, worn cigar boxes and warm candlelight to create a beautiful backdrop for the heavily laden plates and witty toasts. Dinner was wrapped up by a show stopping performance by Eric’s a capella group from NYC with him performing a pitch perfect solo. The night ended with the crowd drifting between taking in the bonfire under the twinkling lights and getting down on the dance floor to an awesome mix laid down by Uptown Entertainment.

Kim + Daniel

P r e s e n t e d by Th e B a r n a t F o r eve r m o r e F a r m

How They Met- My sister met Daniel before I did and she had nothing but great things to say about him; so naturally I was quite excited when I found out he and I were both invited to a Superbowl party at his cousins’ house back in 2010. I don’t think we spoke more than ten words to each other all night- only lots of smiles and eye contact from opposite sides of the room. He asked for my number before the night was over and not long after we started dating. Life pulled us in different directions for a little while but we always knew it was love from the start.

Presented by M e l v i n & D o l l i e Yo u n t s Co n fe r e n ce Ce n te r a t F u r m a n U n i ve r s i t y

94

WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH STYLE

Their Story - Jamie and Jessica met for the first time in 2013. Jamie was in the Field Training Program at the Greenville Police Department. Jessica (a detective) had requested a backup unit for transportation of a prisoner. Jamie and her FTO arrived. Jamie took note of Jessica and Jessica later invited Jamie and her FTO to assist her unit with a search warrant. Jamie sent a thank you basket to Jessica at work in hopes Jessica would like her. Jamie and Jessica text for a few months, but never met up or hung out. Both secretly liked the other but their worlds didn’t align. Finally, one night at a co-workers White Trash theme Birthday Party, the two got paired together for a game of flip-cup. Jamie and Jessica didn’t want the night to end. They danced, sang and played games with their close friends. On the way home from the party, Jamie sat in the front passenger seat and Jessica sat behind her. Jessica reached her hands to the front and said she was “cold.” Jamie took the opportunity to warm her hands and slip her a kiss on the hands, just to let Jessica know she was interested in her. Jamie woke up the next morning, not only with a hangover, but was wondering if Jessica remembered what had happened on the car ride home. Jessica text Jamie the next morning thanking Jamie for “keeping her hands warm.” Jamie was nervous but believed that Jessica was interested in dating her. Jamie had asked Jessica to go out for a coffee to get to know each other better. Little did Jamie know that Jessica didn’t drink coffee. The day they were supposed to meet, Jamie got held up at work and the date fell through. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Jamie asked Jessica to dinner on January 16, 2014. Jamie and Jessica had a nice first date dinner at Adams Bistro. It was a successful day for Jessica at work, as she had made a big bust on a search warrant. Jamie and Jessica didn’t want the night to end as they both couldn’t get enough of each other’s company and stories. Jamie bravely asked Jessica to come back to her apartment for a drink to keep the conversation going. They talked for hours about family, life and work. It was an instant bond. Jamie and Jessica continued to date. Eventually, Jamie and Jessica spent more time together than they did apart. Jessica had a new found happiness and glow to her that her family had not seen in a long time. Jamie moved in with Jessica in the summer of 2015. They bought a house together a month later. The weekend of Thanksgiving 2015, Jessica had planned to propose to Jamie. They had close family and friends over for a chili dinner. Everyone in the room went around and said what they were thankful for and Jessica concluded the session by asking Jamie to marry her. Jamie, crying, gratefully said yes. The two wed at Furman University on August 20, 2016. They’re looking forward to life full of happiness and love.

WEDDINGS AND EVENTS WITH STYLE

Their Story - Brock and Jarred met in high school and had been dating for more than 10 years when they became engaged on December 29, 2015. Their long dating encompassed 4 years of college (Clemson University) and then 4 years of separation as Brock attended Pharmacy School in Charleston and Jarred was working in Greenville and Columbia. Like so many good Clemson families, they planned their fall wedding around Clemson’s home football schedule. Brock wanted an elegant but vintage wedding and celebration which we were able to accomplish thanks to our wonderful wedding planner Farrah Redmon and her mother, Deb Gibson, who did our flowers. The bride’s mother and Deb went to Clemson together in the 70s and were Delta Delta Delta sisters. They certainly never dreamed their paths would cross in this very special way so many years later. Cross Creek Plantation has been the home of the DuBose family for almost 25 years. Having the wedding reception in such a beautiful setting so close to home was a dream come true. The Cross Creek Chef, Anna Powell Cowan, was a childhood friend of Brock and her sister, and Chef Anna did a spectacular job preparing the food for the reception. It was amazing. The Cross Creek event planner, Katherine Uher, and her staff were truly professional and resourceful. They, with the help of Professional Party Planners, transformed the lawn into a magical party setting that helped us celebrate in great style. The appearance of the Clemson Tiger mascot was the hit of the evening, along with the delicious popcorn treat bags from Poppington’s. Sparklers were the perfect way to send off Mr. and Mrs. Sparks to their honeymoon. They drove away in the vintage jeep they first dated in so many years before -- with a very special guest -- the Tiger – riding in the back. It was a perfect ending to a very special day, surrounded by friends and family!

I can’t believe I g e t t o m a r ry m y b e s t f r i end! Tyler and I met while attending North Greenville University. After finals in May of 2012, Tyler asked me on our first date. We didn’t know much about each other so after lunch we decided to head down to Greer City Park. We sat on the swings and talked for hours. We had so much in common, except for his love of Clemson. Once I got home, I called one of my friends and said, “I’m going to marry that man one day!” Of course everyone thought I was crazy but little did anyone know, Tyler felt the same way. Tyler and I fell in love on the swings at Greer City Park. We knew that we had to incorporate that in some way on our wedding day. After visiting the Cannon Center right above “our” swing, we knew that was the place! It had everything we were looking for including a huge dance floor! My mom and sisters helped plan most of our wedding but a few weeks out we decided to hire Andrea Culpepper with Culpepper Designs to help us with flowers, navigate the final details, and direct the big day. When planning the reception, Tyler and I both knew that there were two very important things that we had to have. A DJ who would help us dance the night away and a caterer whose food would have people talking for months! Jumping Juke Box did not disappoint and even gave me my princess moment of singing and dancing to “Let It Go” with all of the little girls in the middle of the dance floor. The food was incredible! Laurenda’s Catering staff covered everything from shrimp appetizers, roast beef, a mashed potato bar and of course a chocolate fountain. March 14th finally arrived and I could not have been more excited to marry my best friend! The day went by so slow but quickly at the same time. My grandmother cooked a beautiful bridal brunch and then before I knew it I was getting into my dress. Tyler and I decided to do a first look and it is one of the memories that I will cherish the most! We got married at a local church in Greer with a reception soon followed at the Cannon Center. The venue, food, cake, music, photography and flowers were exactly what we had envisioned! We feel so blessed and could not have asked for a better day!
