Overview
Shielded cables in the industry
When sending sensitive data and signals, you must often protect these transmissions from the electro-magnetic interferences caused by surrounding environmental factors. For this reason, cables are used which feature an integrated shield. Shielded cables are put to use in nearly every type of machine or facility, ranging from the construction of a bus network to the transmission of analogue signals. The application range for shielded cables is wide and diverse – and just as diverse are the product offerings from Weidmüller for this application range. The shielded cables are available in a variety of lengths and with M12 connectors attached to one or both ends. The use of halogen-free cables is standard. Bus cables are offered in the standard, widely-available colours (for example, Profibus magenta). This brochure also describes unshielded B-coded cables. These cables are used in many applications in conjunction with shielded cables. Custom-assembled connectors are also available in order to suit the data cables to your individual needs. A wide array of possibilities exist: both in terms of materials used (stainless steel, diecast zinc or brass) and for the available connection systems (tension clamp, screw or IDC connection).
Sleeves for labelling sensor cables The cables can be labelled with a marker tag; this allows you to clearly and unambiguously mark your sensor-actuator cables. Each cable is fitted with a sleeve in which a marker tag can be inserted. Cables with no connector on one side have one sleeve, while connection cables are fitted with two marker sleeves. The TM-I 18 is available in a variety of colours.

On request, Weidmüller will also deliver a special cable-configuration service. This service is not described in this brochure. When considering the connectors at the cable ends, it is only possible to externally distinguish between shielded and unshielded cable by observing the threaded neck rings and the moulded connector housing. The contact carrier is located at this point for unshielded cables. For shielded cables, the shielding sleeve (which connects the cable‘s braided shield with the threaded neck ring) is visible at this point. Labelling cables with TMI sleeves Speedy cable identification is an important factor for saving both time and money. But you should also take into account the readability of the marking and the marker assembly. TM and TMI sleeves have become established when working with bus cables or sensor-actuator cables. What separates Weidmüller cables from the rest is that the sleeves are pre-assembled on the standard cables. Thus single-sided pre-assembled cables come with one tag carrier while double-sided pre-assembled cables come with two tag carriers. Closed markers cannot be attached to double-sided assembled cables after they have already been assembled. Thus the pre-assembled labelling offers particularly good security during placement and ensures that cables can be quickly located in the machine.

Screwty for M8/M12 / M23
The perfect tool for all situations Screwty is the ideal, universal tool for tightening and releasing cable glands on all common sensor and actuator cables. The Screwty can also reach those round plugs normally considered inaccessible! No great force is required – simply turn the tool to tighten or release the plug-in connector as required. The Screwty also fits the majority (more than 90 %) of the cables and plug-in connectors of other suppliers and is therefore a unique tool useful throughout the world. The Screwty consists of a handle with a conventional 1/4“ fitting. This means it can be used for all sizes: for M12 and M8 round plugs, and the M12F and M8F types, also for plugs and sockets on custom cables. The Screwty is suitable for the following round plugs: Size

An adjustable torque fitting is also available for the Screwty – for guaranteeing extra reliability during installation. The torque can be infinitely adjusted between 0.5 and 1.7 Nm. This accurate setting enables all round plugs to be tightened precisely with a certain torque.
