Dionne Tjeltveit, branch manager for Assiniboia’s CENTURY 21, and her daughter Cassie want to help you buy or sell your next property. Dionne is licensed to sell any type of property – from residential to commercial, farms, acreages and even leases. “We can help you with your complete buying experience and with any listed property,” says Dionne.
Dionne guides clients through every step of home-buying. She can advise those buying in the area because she has lived and worked here. “I understand the rural areas better than a city agent. I know the trends, the markets, and have more local insight.” Dionne also believes in letting you take your time with real estate. “I have lots of patience,” she says. “I can work with you for as long as you need to find the right property. I believe in no pressure sales.” Soon that expert advice will come from her daughter, Cassie. You will find Cassie already at work in the office. Once her Real Estate licensing courses are completed, she will be a full-fledged member of the CENTURY 21 Tjeltveit team.
CENTURY 21 is the most recognized name in real estate today. Dionne Tjeltveit, REALTOR® and Sales Associate of the Assiniboia office, says that her clients feel a real trust in CENTURY 21 because of its longevity and professionalism. If her clients
are moving anywhere in Canada, she can refer them to another CENTURY 21 branch where there will be a selection of homes in their style and price point ready to show.
CENTURY 21 is also in 71 other countries so Dionne can connect her client with a sales professional just about anywhere.
Dionne has been recognized with a sales award in each of her years with CENTURY 21. “They’re very good about recognizing the hard work and effort we put into our jobs.”
Dionne is available 24/7 for her clients.
Those looking for homes often search on weekends and holidays. “I’m available any day of the year, whenever they need me.” Free Market Evaluations are a significant service that Dionne provides through CENTURY 21. If home-owners are preparing to sell, Dionne can advise or caution them on appropriate renovations to enhance the value of their property.
“Getting a referral is the best thank you I can receive,” says Dionne. “Clients appreciate our service so much that they’ll tell someone else.”

Moms Florist has been a part of the Assiniboia community for the better part of 25 years. It started with Joanne Girardin bringing this wonderful service and providing beauty to the patrons along with a full selection of giftware and housewares. Joanne set the stage for quality, design and customer service for the people of Assiniboia.
In 2015 Erin Eberle took over ownership to keep the tradition of this quaint little Flower Shop going. Since Erin has taken over the shop, she has given the 100-year-old building a face lift, changing the frontage to a more modern version of its old self.
She reinvented the interior to provide a
welcoming backdrop for all the unique finds as you make your way through the store to the flower cooler which is filled with beautifully made floral arrangements.
Moms Florist holds an annual open house in the first weeks of every November when the store is fully decorated from top to bottom to kick off the Christmas season. The store is plum full of all kinds of Christmas decor, and giftware for anyones taste.
Every September Moms Florist hosts Good Neighbour Day a wonderful fundraiser with all the proceeds going towards the local Mental Health Unit in Assiniboia.
What better way to provide Mental Health
awareness than passing out roses to all your friends, neighbours, and even strangers! The Assiniboia Arts Council has a yearly fundraiser that provides the recipient with a monthly punch card for a bouquet of flowers, a gift that keeps on giving! These are just a few of the wonderful fundraisers and events that Moms Florist provides our wonderful little community.

Got important tax questions? Mary Thorson and the tax professionals at H&R Block in Assiniboia work year-round to serve you at their location on 329 Centre Street in Assiniboia.
The H&R Block Advantage provides clients with the Maximum Refund Guarantee. Mary and her staff, Iris Woolhouse, Paul Topola, Evan Walters and San Kanpoor, are regularly trained with all the yearly updates so that they can process Income Tax Returns and provide each client with the maximum refund they deserve.
Mary and her staff can handle all tax returns from basic to complex situations. Whether the return includes student loans and tuition, RRSPs, Capital Gains, Charitable Donations and medical expenses, or self-employed and rental income, Mary and her staff can easily handle any matters. Iris has taken additional training to assist those with U.S. tax obligations. Mary cans help with deceased and trust returns, non-profit financial statements, or situations involving GST and PST.
With the Block Advantage, H&R provides comprehensive audit support. An audit can be daunting and Mary has come alongside several of her clients to assist them in GST and income tax audits.
The third component of the Block Advantage is their year-round service. Mary has had the H&R Block Franchise for 22 years. She sees a steady stream of people to her office for other services like payroll and year-end estimates. Many clients are farmers and self-employed business people.
With years of experience behind her, Mary can advise clients on tax laws that may apply during life changes. “When people get married or separate, or at the birth of a child, it affects their tax profile. If they don’t let Revenue Canada know about this change, they may be faced with a steep tax bill down the road. Even moving from one province to another or attending school out of province can affect your taxes, so it is often wise to inform Revenue Canada right away,” Mary explains.
Mary and her staff welcome new clients. “Whether clients drop off their information or stay while we complete the return, we try to include our clients throughout the process to make sure we are not missing any details or deductions. It’s reassuring for them to know that we are thorough in our tax preparation.”
With e-filing and Instant Cash Back, Mary finds that her clients receive their refund in a timely manner – another good reason to stop in at H&R Block.
H&R Block provides:
• Income Tax
• Bookkeeping
• U.S. Returns
• Payroll
• GTS Returns
• Agro Stability

• Oversized washer for large loads
• Children’s play area
Bart Walters took over ownership of Cy’s Auto Glass in 2003, although he’s been in the business far longer. “I like to say that I’ve been here since 1969 when I was born. I came to work with mom and dad every day.”
Growing up in the shop, Bart developed an interest and an unique skill set that now makes him unmatched in the glass industry in the area.
Bart has an edge in his field. “I provide and repair farm, commercial and flat glass. I also do residential glass for windows, picture frames, mirrors and plexiglass. Bart also does flat glass as well as all types of windshields.
Cy’s Auto Glass provides:
• Serving Assiniboia & area since 1947
• Replace windshields in all makes & models
• Semis & farm trucks
• All insurance claims welcomed
• Picture glass, mirror & window glass
“There are not many guys like me around anymore. You have to go to Moose Jaw, Weyburn or Swift Current to get flat glass work done. I’m the only one who does that kind of glass in the area.”
With Bart’s knowledge and staying power in the niche field, he has seen an increase in business over the years. The demand keeps Bart working steady. He hired a part-time receptionist to assist in the office and Laundromat allowing him to focus on the glass side which he prefers. “Every vehicle is different, which keeps the work interesting.”
At JB’s Laundromat, “Laundromats are hard to find nowadays, too. We have people coming from
Daily 9:00AM 10:00PM Attendant on Duty Mon. Fri. 9-5
Coin operated washers and dryers. Uses loonies & quarters.
Oversize washer and dryer for the largest of loads.

as far away as Kincaid to do their laundry.”
“I have many regular customers, but the laundromat is also a favourite for campers when they return home, or for residents welcoming friends and family at Christmas. They bring in their large blankets and comforters and use the oversized washer to get everything clean and fresh for their guests.”
Cy’s Auto Glass and JB’s Laundromat with its five coin-operated washers and dryers and one oversized washer is welcoming with lots of light and very clean. “I’ve had customers travelling from the U.S. and they say it’s the nicest and cleanest laundromat they’ve ever visited.”
Kal Tire may have new colours on their logo –orange and black - but their priority of outstanding customer service had not changed.
“Kal Tire is known across Canada for their customer care. Alan and I really take that to heart. It is very important to us,” says Patti, owner, along with her husband Alan Batty.
We are on call 24/7 and, within our capabilities, try to make our customer’s lives a little easier. We will pick up vehicles, service them and take them back to the owner. As the old saying goes, “We aim to please.”
Customers at Kal Tire walk into a professional and courteous atmosphere where their needs are put first and they can count on services and products
that are backed by over 250 Kal Tire stores across Canada.
Bridgestone, Firestone, Michelin, Yokohoma, Nokian, BF Goodrich, Banda Retreads and Nitto Tires are all in stock at Kal Tire with access to many more.
Four-wheel computerized alignments, exhaust services, brake services, drive-line repairs, SGI inspections, tune-ups, oil changes, shocks and struts are all offered by their two mechanics on staff.
Two Service trucks respond to a wide area from Assiniboia to Bengough, Avonlea, Ogema, Coderre, Rockglen, Gravelbourg, Kincaid, Coronach and all points in between. “We’ve been all over.”
“In 1994, Alan and I purchased the franchise of James Tire,” says Patti. “In 1998, Kal Tire corporate
bought out all the Corporate James Tires in Saskatchewan and they, in turn, invited Alan and Patti to join the Kal Tire group as an Associate. Alan brings over 30 years of knowledge when it comes to tires and service.
Not only did the Battys grow up in this district, they raised their three children, Amber, Matt and Kyle, here as well. In 2011, they sold their farm site and moved into Assiniboia where they continue to be involved in the community and sporting events. Volunteering is a big part of their lives.
As they transition into their new “colour scheme”, you will see a difference in the outside and inside of the Kal Tire buildings. Stop in to see the changes!
“We provide service. That’s our main focus, and it’s what we really specialize in.”

Rotary International exists to improve lives both locally and internationally. Our Assiniboia Rotary Club is very pleased to contribute to worldwide efforts in many sustainable projects. They are also involved in the community, especially with the youth, their chosen emphasis.
Student Exchange Programs varying in length from one month to one year are life-changing for students and host families. The Rotary Club feels our community benefits when our students experience the world. A newly established youth Rotary Interact Club has been established at the Assiniboia High School.
The Rotary sends students annually to Adventures in Technology in Saskatoon, Adventures in Ag in Regina and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards in Manitoba with the aim of building responsible and accountable leaders. Each year, the Rotary awards a scholarship to a ACHS graduate who demonstrates volunteer and community service and leadership skills. The group also supports literacy
by funding the Young Adult section in the Assiniboia and District Public Library.
They have also added to beautification efforts in the town, donating the clock in Central Park. The club donated $5,000 to the Centennial Park playground.
The Rotary Club also provides its own programming. The annual Carol Festival takes place on the first Sunday of every December and is one of the longest running community events in Assiniboia. The Suds and Supper beer-tasting event serves flavourful, high-quality beers with food pairings. The annual Dinner Theatre is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers. It partners with the local Popcorn Productions to produce the play.
Internationally, the Rotary Club chooses to support the Ripple Effect Project, which builds schools in Guatemala and Polio Plus which partners with the Gates Foundation to raise funds to eliminate Polio worldwide. The club makes a donation on behalf of every
student graduating from ACHS. The local club has also raised funds for the international polio eradication project.

Stark & Marsh CPA LLP has deep roots in southwest Saskatchewan, and in recent years has been expanding relationships into the south-central region of the province. In September 2016, the firm felt the demand required a commitment to a full-time office in Assiniboia.
“The decision to set up a permanent office in Assiniboia was two-fold,” commented Elden Moberg, CEO and Partner. “Our client base was moving further east toward Assiniboia and, as a result, we decided to establish a day
office two years ago to service clients in the region.”
“Secondly, we had developed a relationship with Claudette Palmier over the past numbers of years, and we both agreed that combining efforts may be best for her, her clients, and the firm. The timing was right to establish something more permanent and we’re excited for the opportunity to work with agricultural producers and small to medium sized businesses in the area.”
With the support of all firm resources, the Assiniboia office is currently
operating with four local employees. Claudette Palmier CPA, CGA, is a Senior Manager; Michelle Davidson, CPA, CA is involved with corporate and personal tax preparation; Marie Magnuson is in Record Keeping; and Caitlin Batty in Record Keeping and Client Services.
Leslie Neufeld, Shane Lacasse, Terri Olfert, Elden Moberg, Darcy Congdon, and Tammy Kochan all make regular visits from Swift Current to Assiniboia to assist with ongoing operations and client services.

Harvey’s Home centre is your one stop shop in the south country. With a reputation for its customer service, great selection and quality products for over 90 years. Founded by Lewis Harvey in the 1920s, who passed the business down to his son Wilfred and later to his grandsons Graham and Scott.
Now owned by Kevin Hagley, Ted Kwasnicki and Ken Beggren who were all loyal employees for several years, in whom the Harvey’s saw great potential and invited them to purchase the business. They are now two years in and are still respecting the name with the same quality of products and service,

If you don’t see what you are looking for, one of our department managers will do their best to find it for you and order it in. It’s important to us that our customers are satisfied at the end of the day and that doesn’t end after the sale. We offer delivery and setup with a careful and efficient delivery team and we service the appliances and furniture that we sell.
Our knowledgeable staff is crucial to our business success. They genuinely care about our customers and are always willing to help. Which is not all that common in today’s retail world. It’s important to us to be able to provide our community and surrounding communities with everything they need.
After all, it’s our customers that keep the doors open and we can’t thank them enough for all their support. It’s when we hear comments that they went to the city to find something and end up coming back here to get it, that we know are on the right track and are consistently working to maintain and improve on that.

The Southern Cruisers Car Club has been meeting for 26 years as a group of people with an interest in speciality cars, anything from classics, to hot-rods, to customs, and everything in between. They started out talking about their interests and their restoration projects with each other.
Soon a need for a meeting place and a shop arose, as the numbers grew to about 30 from communities all around the Assiniboia district. Their membership has held steady ever since. With the purchase of a clubhouse in 2007 on 3rd Avenue West, members were able to work on maintenance or restoration projects, while also having a place to hold their monthly meetings.
The Southern Cruisers Demo Derby and Tuff Trucks Competition, typically held on July 1, has been a major event for many years. At times, the Car Club also brought in such attractions as Monster Trucks, Mud Trucks, Motocross Freestyle, and Lawnmower Races. The exploits of Krazy Krauss were fan favourites.
In 2015 the Demo-Derby was revived and since then has been held at the Fair Grounds. The Canada Day event also features a Tuff Truck Competition and attracted hundreds.
Over the years, the Southern Cruisers Car Club has donated funds to the Kinsmen Park, Hutch Ambulance, Assiniboia Union Hospital, South Country Assistance Trust, 7th Avenue Playground, STARS, Sask Childrens Hospital, and several other local groups.
Every summer, the Car Club hosts a Show ‘n Shine at local businesses or in front of their shop. In the past, the club has shown cars at the Kinsmen Park as well as in Willow Bunch and now hosts an annual show at Thomson Lake.
Show ‘n Shines have become a community event and a way to spend time with family and friends. It usually includes a barbecue for everyone to enjoy.
Cars are meant to be driven and appreciated. The joy of owning a classic car is not limited to merely showing the vehicle, but also to driving it. Many members take their speciality cars on family trips or on Rod Runs. Popular destinations have included car shows in Regina, Southey, Good Spirit, Weyburn, Swift Current, Besant, Radium Hot Springs, and Minot.
Several Southern Cruisers members have won trophies earning the car club recognition at many of these events. Beyond the trophies, many memories have been made and friendships developed with members of neighbouring clubs over the years.
The Southern Cruisers Car Club is open to new members. Their member-only shop is fully equipped with a hoist, an air compressor, and a full complement of tools. Qualifications for membership include an interest in speciality vehicles, new or old, plus they must commit to attending monthly meetings and helping with annual fundraisers.
If you are interested in joining the Southern Cruisers Car Club, for more information call 306-642-4705.

• Fresh packaged bread & buns
• Donuts, cinnamon buns & more
• Seasonal baking
• Fresh deli foods
• Local catering
The Assiniboia Bakery is a family business that has been a staple in the community 67 years. Owner and operator John Ambrose continues the family legacy of offering fresh homemade baked goods. He is assisted by seven employees.
“Our baking is made fresh right here every day,” says John. He emphasizes that all of their baked goods are prepared in house and not prepared and trucked in from elsewhere.
Bakery items include donuts, cinnamon buns, cheese buns, eclairs, cookies, croissants, cupcakes and muffins. The
shop’s signature item is the home-made donuts. Their fluffy texture is simply irresistible.
The baked items can be purchased in singles to enjoy with a coffee on site, or they can be purchased in larger volumes to take home. Breads, buns and dinner rolls are also made fresh daily to purchase in one or two dozen-sized bags.
John and his staff vary the baked goods according to the season and prepare specialty items. During the Christmas season shortbread cookies and Christmas cake are made, for example.
The front of the shop contains small round tables and chairs where customers can sit and savour the delectable baking while people watching through the large picture window. A television set in the corner and reading materials add a cozy ambiance.
Assiniboia Bakery also contains a deli section offering fresh soups and sandwiches as well as a selection of cakes for dessert. Customers can eat in or take out. The bakery also caters in the local community providing soups, sandwiches and desserts for meetings, the Assiniboia and District Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learns and community events.
John’s philosophy is to support local business for a thriving community.

Great West Auto Electric offers:

• Auto parts
• Farm parts
• Cleaning supplies
• Punch and chisels
• Screw driver sets
• Great selection of tools
• Oil for all engines
Great West Auto Electric is one of those small businesses that consistently shows growth year after year. Leanne and Randy Wiebe, owners from Swift Current, are very pleased to be involved in this community. Great West specializes in auto-parts, stocking a full-line of auto, truck, heavy-duty truck and semi parts as well as farm parts.
“This year is set to be a record in sales,” says Len Hanson, Manager. “I think that our knowledgeable staff and good quality parts are a big factor in our growth.”
That knowledge of the parts industry has kept them thriving in the area along with
their head office outlet in Swift Current. Overnight parts service is another highlyappreciated trademark at Great West.
“But you also have to know where to source out the parts,” he added. “We use so many different suppliers and you have to know which supplier to call on for quick service.”
“Another thing that helps is our spring Wix Filter sale. It keeps growing every year. We also expanded into a full line of parts for small trailers.”
Seven dedicated staff members help the customers and take requests for special
parts. “It’s a very busy place,” comments Rita Walters, parts specialist, “but it’s a small enough business that it feels like family.”
Great West Auto Electric has been serving Assiniboia and area for 41 years. It appreciates the community and is known for its support of various sporting events.
“We have a very loyal customer base,” says Len. “And we really appreciate them.”
Come and visit Len and his staff at Great West Auto Electric for all your heavy-duty truck and trailer needs from farm to oilfield to heavy hauler.
It has been a short six years since we moved back home to Assiniboia. Both our children graduated high school here and have since bought homes of their own, in Assiniboia and Limerick, at the ages of 19 and 20. They have no plans to leave the area. “We love you, but get out of our house” was a quick joke shared in our home!
Feicht Electric covers rural areas from the US border to Moose Jaw, and as far east and west. Rural and commercial electrical services are all provided, covering new installs and upgrades.
“We will always do our best to bring the highest quality electrical products and services to our customers. Our shortfall is the limited number of hours in a day and days in the week!”
Feicht Electric provides trenching, line locating and bucket truck services. They recently added builtto-order steel weather-resistant cabinets for panels and electrical service sites. They install these at
bin yards, aeration fans, cattle yards, barns and watering bowl sites.
“These cabinets are fabricated by my son, Cole, using locally purchased products. This keeps the cost to our customers down by bypassing the middle man, while supporting local businesses at the same time.
Cole is quite the welder and fabricator and builds tools as needed for our work. As an example, he built a brake press to bend sheet metal for the custommade panel cabinets, which increased efficiency in production and reduced costs for our customers.”
Jody has very high standards of the work performed by Feicht Electric and does everything in his power to maintain those standards. He is a firm believer in doing it right the first time. The Canadian Electrical Codes are consistently changing to ensure the safety of people and property. Because of this, even the smallest electrical tasks may be foreign to and misunderstood by the general public.

“We go into people’s homes, places of business and farms. It is our responsibility to ensure our customers are served in the safest, most efficient possible manner.”
“I would like to thank Dave Berggren, career electrician and electrical contractor, for contacting me and helping me get my business here established. Dave contacted some of his customers advising them of my services, letting them know I would be able to help them out with their electrical needs. I haven’t looked back since. Dave has since retired but was able, through me, to take care of his customers – an ongoing concern of his. Thanks again, Dave. Our lives have been forever changed for the better, in large part to you.”
Jody has been a Journeyman Electrician for over 17 years. His wife and bookkeeper, Karen, also works at the Assiniboia High School in the library.
“We wish to say thank you to all of our existing and future customers for your support.”
The 2017 Festival of Trees Committee is busy once again planning this year’s 19th festival. The 2017 Festival of Trees is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 at the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre.
The dedicated and eager committee consisting of Linda Hall, Paul and Diane Topola, Patti Batty, Lois Marit, Maureen Ellis, Sharon Schauenberg, Erin Eberle, Brandy Ermel and Michele Hoffos spends countless hours attending to the smallest of details in order to create a memorable and enjoyable occasion for their festival guests.
This year’s theme, “Coming Home for Christmas,” is sure to bring a home-town country Christmas feeling to the annual event. The evening will commence with
appetizers, dinner and an auction, followed by a dance to carry the attendees into the night’s festivities.
The wonderful decorating and the Christmas ambiance created by the Festival of Trees committee members will form the backdrop for the Rotary Carol Festival to be held the following day, on Sunday, December 3. This is the 13th year that this successful holiday concert is being held at the Prince of Wales Centre. Those in attendance will experience the music and talent from many individuals and groups surrounded by the marvellous ornamentation.
As always, the Festival team will be donating the profits from the evening back into the community. The proceeds are directed to
the South Country Health Care Foundation to purchase and upgrade equipment for the community’s hospital facilities. As well, the Prince of Wales Cultural and Recreation Centre has received one half of the proceeds to improve the Centre’s capacities, and to maintain the building and its services for our community.
Thanks to generous sponsorship, the Festival of Trees has raised $679,982 over the past 18 years. It is only through such outstanding donors, those attending along with the many volunteers that make this event such a tremendous success. The Festival of Trees committee recognizes all their immense support over the years and extends its appreciation.

• Short lines: over 25 separate lines • Current employee base: over 260
• Parts inventory: over $14 million. Access to the entire inventory is available through any of the 9 locations in Saskatchewan, including Assiniboia.
Young’s Equipment is Saskatchewan’s largest Case IH Agriculture dealership. It offers an incredible selection of farm machinery, agricultural implements, task-specific equipment and virtually everything else that today’s modern farm requires.
Young’s Equipment carries many of the top farm equipment lines in North America, featuring Case IH tractors, combines and sprayers as well as many short lines, such as Kubota, Apache, Seed Hawk and MacDon, just to name a few. If you need a particular piece of equipment for your farm operations, you’ll find it at Young’s.
Whether it is more horsepower to get you going in the spring, or a bigger combine to help you finish earlier in the fall, Young’s Equipment in Assiniboia is committed to getting you into the right piece of equipment at the right price.
To ensure that your parts get to you when you need them, the company runs two delivery vehicles from its headquarters in Regina to the company’s other locations. During peak seasons, such as seeding and harvest, the delivery service runs seven days a week. Product demonstrations have been the cornerstone of the Young’s business model from the very beginning. Rather than simply dropping off a unit for a customer to operate, the company’s product specialists will actually bring equipment to the field for a side-by-side comparison.
The Assiniboia location opened in 2003. A new 16,000 square foot shop and 2,000 square foot office and storage space was added in 2014.
At Young’s Equipment, it’s really about having great staff. That’s why employee recognition and a commitment to training is how the company walks the talk. Clients walk into the front door to a welcoming atmosphere, a clean professional showroom and helpful staff. In Assiniboia, the branch is managed by Doug Graham, Joel Rasmussen is the service manager, Chad Rogers is the parts manager, and Raymond Martin and Boyd Stenberg handle the sales. The location has a staff of 30.
Young’s Equipment is truly committed to being your partner in agriculture. We believe that the only way we can be successful is by ensuring our customers are successful.

With their solid training and over 75 years combined experience, customers can count on Chuck’s Collision to provide dependable collision work on everything from small compact vehicles to full-size semi-tractor units. Their frame machine is put to good use in structural repairs.
“We do insurance work for SGI as well as body integrity inspections for light truck and automotive, and we are constantly staying on top of the new technology with SGI and their new ventures.”
Chuck’s Collision is well-known for its windshield repair and replacement restoration
work and automotive painting.
“A few years ago, we installed a brand new hightech paint booth. It is a computerized, state-ofthe-art semi-down draft booth. It is the only one of its kind in town.”
Chuck’s paint booth is also environmentallyfriendly with its green recirculating mode. “It recycles the air during the bake cycle which reduces greenhouse emissions.”
The technicians appreciate the safety options in the paint booth as well as the consistent air flow and temperature which allows a more even application. “We are able to get really good colour matches.”
“We offer 24-hour towing and we have a flat deck and a medium and heavy-duty tow truck.
We are also a back up contract for CAA and we do towing for All State Road Side Assistance as well. Our future plans are to expand the business to incorporate more heavy-duty towing.”
Chuck’s Collision has just recently added a storage compound on Campbell Street for rental storage of RVs, boats, trailers and other types of vehicles.
Chuck and his team are entering their 17th year soon. They have built up a trusted and regular clientele from communities all around the Assiniboia district.
“Everybody is pleased with our work and our friendly staff. People know us on the street, and they come here because they have heard good things about us.”
If you’ve ever needed ag financing in the Assiniboia area, you’ve had a trusted choice for the last 40 years. FCC is a federal Crown corporation, and the only national financial institution solely dedicated to agriculture.
“We take a long-term view, we know the ups and downs in the industry and we have had an unwavering commitment to agriculture since we opened our doors in 1959,” says Michael Hoffort, FCC President and CEO.
FCC has a team of 1,800 knowledgeable employees, operating out of 100 offices in mainly rural communities across Canada. Assiniboia’s office has five staff members, all with ag knowledge and ag backgrounds.
FCC provides flexible competitively-priced financing, farm management software, and information and knowledge specifically designed for the agriculture and agri-food industry. We work to add value beyond loan transactions by offering free learning programs and resources, like FCC Forum, webinars, videos and newsletters.
FCC also makes a difference in rural communities by giving back. This year, the Town of Willow Bunch received $15,000 in AgriSpirit funding for their swimming pool renovation, and local fire departments have also received funding in the past.
The community also participates in FCC
Drive Away Hunger every year, and raised 13,918 meals for their local food bank. More than 85 per cent of our customers are small-to-medium-sized businesses that span a wide variety of sectors. In the Assiniboia area, most of our customers are in grain and oilseeds, and cattle.
“Our business is built on strong customer
relationships, knowing our customer’s business and ensuring they have the support they need through every business cycle,” says Hoffort.
FCC serves the industry that feeds the world and supports farmers, agribusinesses and agri-food operators and the important work they do.

B&A Petroleum Ltd is an established business in the community that is known for its excellent service, quality products and competitive prices. Our main goal is to provide our customers with all their fuel and lubricant needs, but we also offer feed supplements, pet food, Flaman rentals and now Meridian conveyors.
B&A Petroleum is owned and operated by Darryl and Janice Meyer of Swift Current. Darryl has been in the fuel business for over 35 years. He started by working for his Dad in Fox Valley.
B&A Petroleum Ltd is ever-expanding its territory with now eleven sites across southwestern Saskatchewan. The Assiniboia site is managed by Sandra Clark and also employs Cam Sinclair, Dwight Zerie, and Doug Fafard as truck drivers, Randy Clark as yard maintenance/Flaman rentals/Feed sales and Shelda Clarke as office staff.
Our site delivers fuel mostly to farmers. However, we have a few commercial customers as well. We also carry a complete line of Petro Canada lubricants, greases and maintain a 24-hour card lock, which is now Petro Pass, so all Petro Pass/ Super Pass cards work here.
Since 2007, we have been able to provide customers with high quality nutritional supplements for farm livestock. Proveta Nutrition Ltd. provides a well-rounded program for different stages of animal health as well as a nutrition consultant to help answer any questions cattlemen may
Randy Clark, Sandy Clark, Shelda Clarke, Dwight Zerie Missing: Cam Sinclair, Doug Fafard
have about any specific issues. Crystalyx has many different types of chelated mineral lick tubs for an alternate method of supplying nutrients to livestock, and Canadian Naturals dog and cat food has become very popular in recent months.
Through Flaman Rentals, we offer farmers a line of agricultural equipment along with a cargo trailer and an 18’ flat deck trailer for rent. Recently, we upgraded a highspeed tiller and breaking disc to maintain a quality product. We are also able to help with purchases from Flaman Sales. B&A Petroleum was proud to be the Top Overall Dealer and Top Retail Dealer for Manitoba/ Saskatchewan for 2016. B&A Petroleum is now a dealer for Meridian conveyors.
Through these many expansions, customer service remains a constant priority. Our
goal is to know the people we serve as individuals. We strive to meet our customers’ needs, quickly, courteously and efficiently. “We feel it is important to meet their needs in a quick and courteous manner, especially during high-stress times of the year.” We realize and appreciate our customers are under a great deal of pressure during busy times of the year.
There are enough obstacles for farmers to deal with like Mother Nature and we hope to ease the stress by supplying them with a quality product in a timely manner. Farming is so often time-sensitive and quality service from us is one less worry for them.
B&A Petroleum is proud to be part of the Assiniboia community and looks forward to many more years of continued service to our customers!

Ross Funeral Service was established by Thomas G. Ross in 1912 at Leeville, Saskatchewan. It was later moved to Assiniboia and managed by his son, Marlow. Their founding philosophy of compassion and attention to detail remains unchanged for over a century. It’s important to loved ones, and it is of utmost importance to us.

We handle the smallest requests with care. “We strive to accommodate every suggestion and honour every request,” says Gary Miller, managing director.
With changing ideals, the traditional format is less common and a more personalized approach is embraced. “We live in a world of technological change, economic upheaval, faith transitions. We have also changed the way that we deal with death and loss,” says Gary. “However, with either celebration, we still recognize the need for warmth and understanding,” he adds.
“Every life should be celebrated and recognized as having value. The value is in giving family, friends, and community the opportunity to say goodbye, share memories, and find closure,” say Gary.
“We have touched many lives and many have played an important part in our lives. The funeral is part of the healing process,” he explains. “It allows a network of friends and family to demonstrate their support.”
Ross Funeral Service values community connections and they demonstrate this

Peavey Mart is much more than a hardware store. Peavey Mart has been operating in Western Canada since about 1967 and is 100 per cent Canadian-owned. Located in Red Deer, Alberta, the corporate chain includes 37 Peavey Mart stores and three Main Street Hardware locations.
The Peavey Mart location in Assiniboia is managed by Yvonne Barr and she is assisted by 10 employees. The Assiniboia store serves customers across the southwest, from Mossbank down to the U.S. border, and from Big Beaver to Kincaid.
It offers a full range of hardware and other items for the needs of the whole family, farm, business and home. They carry hardware, agriculture supplies, electrical, automotive, plumbing, outdoor living, housewares, giftware, garden supplies, lawn décor and seasonal items. Unlike large chains, the store honours warranties on its products.
The Christmas season is special at Peavey Mart, which boasts one of the largest selections of toys in the area. “We are prominent in this. It turns into Toyland at Christmas. We have lots of toys and decorations for
Christmas,” she added.
The products have different price points and range in quality from professional to do-it-yourself materials.
As an employee-owned business, Peavey Mart provides good customer service. “We pride ourselves on our customer service,” says Yvonne. They keep their customers informed with the regular publication of flyers and specials. And this service is rewarded by a loyal customer base. “We can call by name 90 per cent of customers that come through the door.” Peavey Mart always welcomes new shoppers. “We like to see new customers come through the door,” Yvonne adds.
Peavy Mart is very community-minded and supports events, local bonspiels, and fundraisers in Assiniboia and surrounding area through donations and scholarships. Tree planting has been supported by the Community Agricultural Grant. Recently, Peavey Mart supplied the soil for the Scouts tree planting during TD Tree Days.
The store also runs contests. It has a heaviest vegetable contest each year with the winner receiving a $50 gift card. In February, the store begins raising funds for Telemiracle, and Easter Seals in summer. Peavy Mart
holds a major barbecue fundraiser for Wild Pink Yonder’s breast cancer campaign. This year, the store collected money for those affected by the B.C. wildfires.
“It’s a company, but it’s like a family,” says Yvonne about what makes Peavey Mart unique.
Whether you are from the farm, an acreage, small town or city, Peavey Mart has something that will appeal to you!

The South Country Health Care Foundation is a registered charity now on its 18th year.
The South Country Health Care Foundation was formed with the aim of raising funds to purchase necessary equipment for the health care facilities, agencies and programs it serves, and to assist in renovations and capital projects of these health care facilities.
The SCHCF supports the surrounding communities of Assiniboia, Willow Bunch, Rockglen, Mossbank, Lafleche, and Kincaid. The South Country Health Care Foundation is client-centered geared to support the needs of those it serves.
The SCHCF is guided by its Mission Statement that reads, “As healthcare in Saskatchewan continues to evolve, the SCHCF is dedicated to maintaining a quality of life for its residents through provision of equipment, services, and programs in the region.”
The South Country Health Care Foundation has a board of directors that meets on the last Tuesday of every other month at the Assiniboia Union Hospital recreation room.
The SCHCF is thankful and appreciates all donations large or small made by the communities year after year. Families are able to designate to a facility of their choosing, such as the hospital, nursing homes, health centres, and homecare services, etc. A large supporter is The Festival of Trees which donates every year and raised $30,000 in 2016 for the Foundation.
The South Country Health Care Foundation extends special appreciation to all those in our community who volunteer their time in the healing garden. Their dedicated work takes care of the weeding, planting and decorating.

“It is owner-operated. People want to know who is in their home,” says Darren. Valet Cleaning provides a wide variety of services including move ins and move outs, residential and commercial. Valet carpet cleaning offers carpet and upholstery care packages, external pressure washing, window cleaning, move in cleaning, heavy cleaning, walls, floors, cabinets and appliances. Valet Carpet aims to provide premium carpet and upholstery care for the budget-minded customers. “As an owner-operator, I can take my time. My prices are fixed so there are no hidden costs,” Darren explained.
His company is set apart from the rest because he uses a special rotary bonnet shampoo to surface clean carpet fibers followed by a carbonated rinse topped with Scotch Guard. “I double clean it,” says
Darren. “First, I get the surface clean, then I do the carbonated clean.”
Using this system which is like commercial peroxide cleaning, carpets dry quicker and last longer. Valet Carpet does not use boiling water or soaps as some other companies do that can harm carpeting. Valet Carpet is all about gentle carpet care.
Darren stays on top of all of the services and products in his field. A new service coming to Valet Cleaning is for blinds. “I will be offering ultrasonic blind cleaning in 2018,” says Darren.
Valet Cleaning offers its clients the lowest pricing in the southland area. And as an added bonus, “I don’t charge mileage.”

Dave Mihalicz established Dave Mihalicz Excavating Ltd. (DME) in 1984. He began with himself, one employee, one truck and one dozer. In 2001 Bev Mihalicz established B.J.’s Hauling Ltd. Together, Dave and Bev raised their family and built the companies into what they are today.
Both businesses now operate across all of Saskatchewan and into parts of Manitoba. They include three track excavators, a backhoe, track skid steer, rubber tire skid steer, two dozers, two front-end loaders, two packers, seven semi power units, and numerous trailers. Both companies have worked very hard to achieve and maintain their HCSA Safety Cor and to be ISN compliant.
In July 2016 Dave and Bev’s daughter Jolene along with her husband Trevor Peterson purchased both companies. It was fitting for them to takeover, as Trevor has been working for the companies since 1999. Jolene began working in the office part-time in 2010, becoming more involved with the day-to-day activities in 2013.
Jolene and Trevor have a very good understanding of how to keep operations running smoothly. They both actively support Assiniboia and surrounding communities. Although the companies have new owners, Dave is very much involved with day-to-day activities, while mentoring them along the way.
We specialize in the following services:
• Concrete breaking
• Demolition
• Excavation • Sand
Gravel
Rock
Topsoil • Corral cleaning • Bobcat work • Snow removal • Landscaping • Free estimates • Environmental cleanup

“We are very excited about the future,” Jolene says. “To be part of the community, not just as residents as we raise our children Shayde, Lakeda and Daxin, but now as business owners too,” says Trevor.
“We would like to thank all the employees and customers for the support they’ve given us over the past years,” Dave added. “And for their continued support of Jolene and Trevor during the transition,” says Bev.

Southland Co-op supports our local communities. “Southland Co-op is committed to serving the community and giving back all throughout the year,” says Ken Bahuaud, General Manager of Southland Co-op.
As part of Fuel Good Day on September 19, five cents from every litre of fuel purchased at Southland Co-op Gas Bars at locations in Assiniboia, Coronach, Lafleche and Mossbank were donated to STARS Air Ambulance.
“Fuel Good Day is one of many ways we fuel our communities, whether it’s by sharing profits with our members or supporting
local organization that are doing important work right here in our own backyard,” Ken explains. Southland Co-op put out the call and the communities responded.
At the end of the Day, Southland Co-op members and customers helped raise $5,146.55 for one of our community organizations that helps saves lives – STARS Air Ambulance.
Fuel Good Day was celebrated at more than 380 Co-op Gas Bars throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northwest Ontario, each supporting a selected local charitable or non-profit organization or initiative.
Swayze’s Concrete Ltd. is a family-owned and operated business that has been serving southern Saskatchewan for over 50 years. “We operate with well-established family values that emphasizes customer service, honesty, accountability and integrity,” says Rosie McDonald, office administrator at the Assiniboia plant.
Over the years, Swayze’s has exhibited steady growth, which it attributes to perseverance. This drive to succeed was first modeled by Orvil Swayze, who founded Swayze’s in Carnduff in 1963, and then by his son Jerry, who took over in 1996. It carries on today through Jerry’s sons Randy, Ryan and Colby.
Between the Assiniboia and Gravelbourg location, a crew of seven dedicated employees carries the pioneering spirit
of Swayze’s forward. Our friendly and experienced staff would be more than happy to help you with any questions.
The Assiniboia team is backed by seven locations across the province that total over 85 employees. Swayze’s has access to a fleet off semis and Redi-Mix trucks as well as 30 gravel pits across the southeast. With all this manpower and equipment available, Swayze’s is positioned for any task.
Part of Swayze’s success comes from diversification. Many residents in the area may not be aware of the diversity of services the Swayze Concrete supplies, such as sewer and water installations, repairs, trenching, excavating, contaminant hauling, snow removal, road graveling, crushing, screening, along with Rock Slinger and Redi-Mix Concrete services.
At Swayze Concrete we offer:
• Crushing & screening of all gravel products
• Excavating

There is a common theme to the Flexxifinger® product line – they are all designed to help farmers. Some products can be used in other industries like forestry, mining, land development and landscaping to name a few, but the farmer is the backbone of the Flexxifinger® family of products.
Like many agricultural companies, the idea of Flexxifinger’s® first crop lifter was sparked by a need. That idea set in motion events that led Assiniboia’s Dave Dietrich and his team to create a lineup of industryleading crop lifters used around the world.
Flexxifinger® has a large selection of crop lifters with a variety of options that allow the farmer to salvage as much crop as possible in just about any crop type, ground conditions and soil type.
Flexxifinger’s® continued product improvement and development is often a result of direct feedback from farmers. With the farmer’s convenience and profitability in mind, Flexxifinger® crop
lifters all share common elements – they are all easy to attach to the header or swather using patented QD™ Quick Detach technology, they are all adjustable, and they all adhere to the highest quality standards of production and assembly.
Flexxifinger’s® top-selling Heavy Duty Crop Lifter™ was developed at the suggestion of producers who wanted a nylon-finger-type crop lifter that would be effective in cereals.
The concepts for Flexxifinger’s® harvest solutions, the Corn and Sunflower Harvest Pan™ and the FlexxiSelect™ Relay Intercropping Harvest System™, also arose after talking to farmers and producers at conferences and tradeshows. Both allow the farmer to harvest specialty crops without the need to have a separate header, therefore reducing input costs and maximizing returns. The harvest solutions attach to the header using the QD™ system, adhere to the same quality
standards, and function with the same adjustability as Flexxifinger’s® crop lifters.
In addition to crop lifters and harvest solutions, Flexxifinger® also manufactures and sells the Flexxifinger® Quicker Picker, a rotary rock picker designed for skid-steer use. Within the past year, using feedback provided by end-users, the Flexxifinger® production team has developed a selection of perforated and mesh screens that fits over the outside of the drum to increase the function of the rock picker. Users can now filter different sized gravel, timber, boulders, sand, etc., with the same unit so they can use it to pick rock.
Flexxifinger® loves to hear from its customers – whether to learn that something worked well, or to learn that it did not. That feedback is used to improve product features or function. It also ensures that Flexxifinger® remains the choice of mechanized farmers worldwide™.

more horsepower, and better fuel economy in all their engines,” says Curtis. “There’s more cab space and a quieter ride, too. All the technology and every feature in the truck has been improved.”
It all began in Avonlea in 1959 when the visionary, Walter C Nelson, opened Nelson Motors. Four decades later and stronger, the business expanded to Assiniboia where it became Nelson GM & RV. Curtis Nelson, grandson to Walter and manager of Nelson GM, along with his team of 20, continue to carry forward this vision adding a new 13,750 square foot show room and shop in 2013.
Nelson GM doubled its service bays to 10, which translates into quicker and more efficient service. The larger parts room has more parts on display allowing customers to select what they need with ease. A well-lit car lot and an indoor showroom provide a convenient and comfortable shopping experience.
A new computerized bulk oil system means a cleaner and safer work environment for the technicians, while a new wheel alignment machine means that Nelson GM is now certified to perform SGI Safeties.
The brand-new GM half-tons and Heavy Duty trucks in stock are ready to go home with you. “GM has completely remodelled them hood to hitch, with upgraded engines,
“Consumers have changed,” says Curtis. They are coming prepared with more knowledge about the vehicle of their choice. Nelson GM uses technology such as iPads to support their interest and to further educate them in automotive features.
