Silver Seals award swimmers

Awards night held for the Weyburn Silver Seals

The Weyburn Silver Seals had their annual general meeting and awards night on September 10. The Seals had a wonderful season with 72 registered swimmers and 20 qualifying for provincials in Watrous.

Busy week for football with teams in action It was another busy week for football, as several different Weyburn teams were in action over the weekend. The Weyburn Comp Eagles lost their Friday night lights game in Yorkton 56-0. “Yorkton is a very good team and may be the class of the Moose Jaw High School football league this year,” said Darren Abel, head coach for the Comp Eagles. “There were not a lot of bright spots from the game for us. The boys will definitely use this as a learning experience and grow.” The Weyburn Comp Eagles were in Moose Jaw for a game against Central on Tuesday night. They will have a home game against Estevan at Darold Kot Field on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. “We will play three games in eight days, which will be very tough on the players physically,” said Abel. The bantam Young Fellow Falcons have a record of 2-1 right now. They won 29-6 over Estevan in the first game, then lost 14-9 to the Moose Jaw Razorbacks in their second game. In their third game, they won 25-0 over Estevan. “In three games our defence hasn’t given up a point so far,” said Chris Michel, head coach for the bantam Young Fellow Falcons. “It’s definitely the strength of our team right now, until our offence gets rolling. The points that have been scored on us have come via big plays given up on special teams.” The bantam Young Fellow Falcons will host Swift Current on the new

The dedicated volunteer award was Kara Zelyck. The Diane Hanswon award, for most dedicated swimmer, was given to Dalton Molnar. The following are the high points for each division: male ages seven to eight was Dylan Vanstavern, female ages seven to eight was Lily Popescu, male ages nine to 10 was Ryder Hignett, female ages nine to 10 was Tamberly Kreoger, female ages 11 to 12 was Skylar Kregoer, male ages 11 to 12 was Dalton Molnar, male ages 13 to 14 was Tre Thompson, female ages 13 to 14 was Kara Zelyck and female ages 15 to 17 was Zoe Thompson. The overall highest point award winner was Tre Thompson.

The Eagles won that game 33-0. “We had strong performances from Ryder Knox and Conner Kerr on offense and dominant defensive play from JinWoo Hyun,” said Jody Kerr, head coach for the Crescent Point Eagles. Next game action for the peewee Eagles will be under the lights at the new Weyburn Minor Football field on Saturday, September 23 against the Weyburn Par Contracting Ravens at 7:15 p.m.

Tokarz hits the ice for jr. curling Travis Tokarz is on the ice practicing for his last year in Junior Men’s curling. Tokarz started curling at the Weyburn Curling Club with Donette Tracey in the after school program at a young age. He will move in men’s curling in the 2018-2019 season. Tokarz placed third in the province in the 2016-2017 Junior Men’s Competition. Tokarz has put together a new team in hopes of winning Men’s Junior Curling Provincials. Tokarz’s team consists of his lead Dallas Burnett who won silver in the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games. His second is Garrison Fox from the 2016-2017 season’s team. Garrison won two silver medals and two gold medals in the 4-H curling at the provincial levels. His third is Josh Boettcher who as well has won different curling events at the provincial level. The rink has a new coach, Lloyd Helm who has been involved in the curling community for nearly six decades. In 2004, Lloyd Helm as inducted into the Saskatchewan Legends of Curling. Most improved for the Stellars division were Avryelle Molnar and Ethan Marcotte. Most improved in the Leopards divisions were Mandred Caudill and Hailey Kirkpatrick. Most improved in the Harps and Harbours division were Axton Dionne, Dawson King and Payton Caldwell. The best attitude award was given to Antonius Quist. Most dedicated in the Pups division were Daisy Popescu and Davin Renwick. Most dedicated in the Stellars division were Lily Popescu and Dylan Van Staveren. Most dedicated in the
