‘Working together’ for the United Way

Nine-year-old’s powerhouse voice

Maraya Parisien, nine years old, belted out her songs accompanied by her music teacher, Alfredo Aguiar, on piano during her set on Friday evening for Communithon. Among the songs she performed was the Leonard Cohen classic, “Hallelujah”. The Haig student was a performer at Telemiracle last year.

STARS Choir sings ‘Let’s Work Together’ for Communithon

Members of the Comp School’s STARS Show Choir sang the theme song for Communithon, “Let’s Work Together”, at the opening ceremonies for the 37th annual telethon on Friday morning at the Cugnet Centre. The ceremonies kicked off 15 hours of entertainment as they raised funds for the Weyburn United Way, and their 13 member agencies. School groups, individual performers and community groups provided the entertainment throughout the day for the event.

Dancer Emily Alexander performed a lyrical dance solo on stage at the Cugnet Centre, as one of the featured performers for Communithon on Friday evening.

St. Michael students perform at Communithon

Jayda Cameron, who was superhero Supergirl for Communithon, did her best to unstack cups to move the blue cup up to the top within a minute, as one of the challenges for the “Minute to Win It” contest at Communithon on Friday evening. The superheroes plus a friend went up against the Credit Union team, and the Credit Union team ended up winning the trophy.

A group of Grade 2 students from St. Michael School perform their song with actions as they follow the directions of their teacher on stage at the Cugnet Centre on Friday, one of many school performances during the day for Communithon. All of the schools in Weyburn had groups, some with singers and others with band instruments, as they performed and helped raise money for the Weyburn United Way.
