‘A Night at the Drive-in’ benefits cancer fighter

Weyburn’s The 7th Avenue performed their music at the sold-out drive-in concert held on Friday evening at the Weyburn fairgrounds as a benefit for Ensley Akins. They were the last of four groups to perform at the concert, which also featured singer Onello Bahingawan, and the groups Switch and Dead Levee.

Weyburn group Switch performed their blend of rock and country songs for the soldout crowd on hand for the “Night at the Drive-in for Ensley” benefit concert on Friday evening. The band members included Nick Bain on rhythm guitar, lead singer and guitarist Craig Davies, lead guitarist and vocalist Pierre Parise and Corey Branvold on bass, with Jason Hill on the drums and vocals at the back.

The Regina-based rock group Dead Levee, with Weyburn’s Dane Von Hagen as lead singer (centre), brought their raucous music to the stage at the “Night at the Drive-in for Ensley” benefit concert on Friday evening at the Weyburn fairgrounds. They were one of four performers for the outdoor sold-out concert.

Special guitar presented to Ensley

Dane Von Hagen of Dead Levee presented this special guitar to Ensley Akins on behalf of the performers at the “Night at the Drive-in for Ensley” on Friday evening at the Weyburn fairgrounds. The names of all the performers, including The 7th Avenue, Onello, Switch and Dead Levee, were embossed onto the guitar, and the proceeds of the special event will go to Ensley and her family to help her as she battles cancer for a second round.
Weyburn singer Onello Bahingawan opened up the special “Night at the Drive-in for Ensley” benefit concert on Friday evening at the Weyburn fairgrounds. A member of the Class of 2020 from the Weyburn Comprehensive School and part of Sask Express, he will be taking the music program at Brandon University this fall. He has performed in musicals in the community and at WCS, at Communithon and Telemiracle, and plans to teach music. Review Photo 5659 — Greg Nikkel
