Songs of peace and joy at the Festival of Carols
Variations community choir performs at Carol Festival

Members of the Variations community choir sang under the direction of Colleen Weimer at the 68th annual Festival of Carols, held by the Weyburn Quota Club on Sunday evening at Grace United Church. This was final performance of the evening, with seven other groups also performing throughout the evening.

The Spirit of Grace choir from Grace United Church performed the song “One Candle” at the Quota Club’s Festival of Carols on Sunday evening. The girls were directed by Kendra Gonczy, with Colleen Weimer on piano.

Sharon Elliott of Weyburn performed the Christmas carol, “In the Bleak Midwinter”, to open the Quota Festival of Carols on Sunday evening at Grace United Church. She was followed by Jean Fahlman reading the Christmas story, and performances were given by seven choirs and groups from the community.

The RISE Choir from the Weyburn Comprehensive School sang a selection of Christmas favourites, including the “Carol of the Bells”,“Do You Hear What I Hear?” and “Little Drummer Boy” in their perfomance at the Quota Carol Festival on Sunday evening. They were directed by music teacher Holly Butz.
Reading the first Christmas story Quota member Jean Fahlman read the story of the first Christmas, at the start of the Quota’s Festival of Carols on Sunday night. She read the account from the King James Bible, a tradition that she has done for many years. Photo 1313

Float ‘sparkled’ with Christmas cheer Lit-up farm truck earns honourable mention in parade

This 1971 International farm truck from Mainil Farms earned an honourable mention by the judges for the Parade of Lights on Thursday. In the cab are Josh Mainil with Pieter Erasmus driving, and up in the box are, from left, Lexie Mainil and Elias Mainil, Violet Mainil, Emily Erasmus and Nikola Erasmus, with Mariesa Erasmus at top right. This truck was restored by the Mainil farm crew last winter.
Local teams in Parade of Lights

Players from the Weyburn Gold Wings carried a banner while members of the Weyburn Comp Eagles football team walked in behind, during the Parade of Lights held on Thursday evening by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce. The Weyburn Red Wings were also a part of the float that followed these players.
Treats at the parade

Tim MacKinnon, chaplain for the Weyburn Fire Department, handed out candy canes to children along the route for the Parade of Lights on Thursday evening. The parade had over 50 entries for the annual event.
The float for Sparkle Car Wash and Fast Track Car Wash had lots of Christmas colours and lights, as one of the over 50 entries for the Weyburn Chamber’s Parade of Lights on Thursday evening.

The Brydon family had their horse and carriage in the Parade of Lights on Thursday evening, and will be busy through December offering rides at the River Park Sparkle Tour.

The Weyburn Skating Club’s float was the winner in the organizations category in the Weyburn Chamber’s Parade of Lights held on Thursday evening.The annual parade had over 50 entries and wound its way through the downtown area, with hundreds of spectators lining the streets to watch.
