Weyburn Comp Eagles football conquer Swift Current Colts
WCS Eagles football hosted the Swift Current Colts on Saturday afternoon at Darold Kot Field.
Weyburn and Swift have long had a great head-tohead matchup with a fairly even win-loss record over the years between the two schools. Weyburn won this game by the score of 44-7.
Saturday’s game started with some strong defense on both sides with a quiet first few minutes. The Eagles opened the scoring at the eight-minute mark with a punt return touch down from Kaleb Berg.
In the second quarter Carter Houghton added a field goal before Owen Is tace ran in his first touch down of the day in from 49 yards out. Shortly after, the Eagles extended their lead with another punt return for a TD from Kaleb Berg.
Just before half, an in jury to a Swift Current play er resulted in a delay for an ambulance pick up and the teams started up again for the second half. There was
more defensive play in the second half on both sides, and there were a few big plays from both sides but no major scores.
Late in the fourth quar ter, the Eagles struck again with their Grade 10 running back Spencer Bell as he took a handoff and ran 39 yards into the end zone.
Swift reset themselves and put together a strong late drive to score their first touchdown of the game to make the score 44-7.
The top statistic leaders: Owen Istace had 139 yards rushing, and QB Nolan Uhren went 10 for 17 in passing for 117 yards. As a team, the Eagles had 268 rushing yards.
Volleyball
The WCS Eagles Inter mediate Boys Volleyball team travelled to Moose Jaw this past weekend to compete in the Vanier Col legiate tournament. They played seven matches in the round robin, winning four of those matches, losing two, and splitting one.
In the playoffs, they played Moose Jaw Peacock in the bronze medal game, and beat them in three games

Women’s Basketball Team, which was a national championship team.
“It was an honour to be recognized with other ath letes who had won Olympic medals and set world rec ords in their respective sport and I couldn’t help but feel incredibly grateful for the tremendous leadership I re ceived over the years,” she said, paying tribute to one of her coaches at the Wey burn Comp School.
“Len Williams stands out as the coach who in spired me the most and taught me to believe in myself. What I learned through sports growing up has served me so well in life,” she said. “I would en courage young athletes to dream big and go all in.”
Sheena graduated from the Weyburn Comp in 2000. She currently works environmental consulting in the oil and gas industry and resides on a farm west of Weyburn with her two children.

Weyburn Red Wings edge out Money Men in home weekend game
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings edged out the visiting Melville Millionaires 2-1 on Satur day night in SJHL action, in a tight home game that saw all of the scoring in the
first period.
Riley See scored at 7:13 with an assist by Dallen Oxelgren. The Money Men tied the game at 15:21 when Noah Wills scored, assisted by Kayden Skul
moski and Zach Cain.
Weyburn regained the lead about 30 seconds later, when Simon Pollock shot the puck into the net with assists by Braigh LeGran deur and Ethan Whillans.
Dazza Mitchell was in net for the Red Wings, making 27 saves on 28 shots. Nei ther team was able to score on the powerplay.
The night before, Wey burn was in Estevan and
were edged out 3-2 by the Bruins. Weyburn’s Jackson Hassman scored midway through the first, and Mat thew Reidy tied the game late in the frame with a pretty goal in tight.
The Red Wings were back in Estevan on Sunday night for a second match in three days, and were doubled up in a 4-2 loss.
Estevan opened the scoring in the first period, and the Red Wings tied the game up with a score by Hassman early in the second period, assisted by Ty Mason and Jakob Kalin.
The Bruins retook the lead midway through the period, but Weyburn tied the game again only a minute into the third per iod, as Mason scored on an assist by Kirk Mullen.
The game was tied until late in the game when Es tevan scored, and then they clinched the win with an empty netter with only two seconds on the clock.
Dallen Oxelgren of the Red Wings was Weyburn’s game star.
The next action for the Red Wings will be at home on Thursday, Oct. 6, when they host the Nipawin Hawks to Crescent Point Place at 7 p.m. They will be on the road over the week end, with back-to-back games in North Battleford on Friday and Saturday.
