Ice Cats share gold medal victory with special local fans

Brantford Ice Cats players gather to share their victory with two local fans who cheered for them throughout the Esso Cup tournament, Riley and Jordynn Wilson. The Ontario team won the gold medal game 10-3 over Quebec’s Express du Richelieu on Saturday at Crescent Point Place to close out the week-long championship event, which opened with the first games on April 17.

Teammates congratulate goaltender Kate Lloyd after being awarded the top player of the bronze medal game for the Rocky Mountain Raiders on Saturday. Lloyd had also won the award as the top goaltender of the Esso Cup tournament, presented at the awards banquet held on Friday at the Weyburn Curling Rink. The Raiders are based out of Okotoks, Alta., and represented the Pacific region at the Esso Cup.

Players for the Brantford Ice Cats celebrate a goal as their fans to the left also celebrate, during the gold medal game for the Esso Cup national midget girls hockey championship on Saturday at Crescent Point Place. This goal broke a 2-2 at the time with Express du Richelieu of Quebec, but the Ice Cats kept on scoring and ended up winning the gold medal game by the score of 10-3.
Grade 2 student Ryan Hanson receives a prize for her colouring for the Esso Cup colouring contest, presented by Meadow Carman, a player for Metro Boston Pizza of Halifax, the Atlantic-region team at the Esso Cup national midget girls hockey championship. The players and coaches of the Okotoks, Alta.-based Rocky Mountain Raiders line up for the medal presenations after winning the bronze medal game on Saturday afternoon at Crescent Point Place. The Raiders, who represented the Pacific region, defeated the Saskatoon Stars 3-0 in the bronze medal game.

The visiting hockey team played road hockey games versus St. Michael students and made a presentation of a team photo to the school, which adopted Team Atlantic to cheer for during the Esso Cup national championships.

Team captain wins signed jersey Olympic hockey player Kelly Bechard presents Bailee Bourassa of the Weyburn Gold Wings with a signed jersey from the 2016 national women’s team, which Bailee won in a draw made at the Esso Cup awards ceremonies on Friday morning at the Weyburn Curling Rink. Gold Wings forward Jenna Grube clears the puck away from the front of her team’s net as defenceman Madison Solie watches a player from the Rocky Mountain Raiders, and teammate McKenzie Cherpin also watches the play nearby. The Gold Wings beat the Raiders 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday evening, their second win of the Esso Cup, but due to their three losses were unable to go on to play in the semi-finals on Friday. The Raiders, meanwhile, went on win the bronze medal on Saturday.
