Yellow Grass holds Bigtime dinner By Betty Guest, 306-465-2876 Yellow Grass — The second annual Bigtime Dinner and Social was hosted by the Yellow Grass Communiplex board at the Communiplex on April 15. Children’s activities started at 4:30 p.m., followed by dinner, and a program, live and silent auctions and live music provided by The Yahoos. Bull rider Aaron Roy of Yellow Grass was honoured and a town sign is now displayed along Highway 39 outside of Yellow Grass. Aaron is a three-time Canadian National Champion and an eight-time World Finals qualifier. More than $70,000 was raised and the money will go towards a new gym, minor hockey teams, judo, rink repairs which includes upgrades to the ice plant. The Yellow Grass Dinner Theatre recently held three successful performance nights with the two-act play, “Nobody Like Jimmy” by Burton Bumgarner. The setting was a parlour in an elegant home in suburban Philadelphia. In the play, Ralph and Eloise Vanlandingham held a political fundraiser dinner, and Ralph’s best friend Harold showed up with a dead body, Jimmy, in the back of his van. Harold needs somewhere to stash the body. The cast included Matt Seitz as Harold, who worked for a mobster; Roger Lenz as Ralph; Danna Grassick as Eloise, who was running for Congress; Garnet Long as Baxter, a server with an attitude; Jodie Long as Diane, campaign manager for Eloise; Eric Mercer as Nigel, speech-writer for Eloise; Allan Robertson as Rick Pitman, a wealthy Texan; Wendy Wood as Emma Pitman, Rick’s wife; Donna Rooney as officer Linda, a police officer; Scott Robertson as officer Cooper, police trainee; and Curtis Robertson as Jimmy, the dead person. Directing the play was Betty Robertson, with prompter Kendall McCormick, and Carrie Moore ran sound. Seventeen children attended the final session of Kids Club for the season. The club will resume in the fall. Leading the club sessions were Eduard and Albina Baumung. VBS will also be held for three days over the summer, with the dates yet to be determined. Winners of cribbage at the Drop-in Centre on April 14 were Otto Dreger in first, Sue Wood in second, and Ruth Boren in third. Leading the Sunday morning worship service at the Yellow Grass United Lutheran Partnership church on April 23 was Doug Shepherd, and on April 30, it will again be Shepherd. On May 7, Martin Olsen will lead the service and communion will be served.

Members of the STARS Show Choir gather with Julia Mackey, star of the one-person play, “Jake’s Gift”, following her performance on Saturday evening for the Weyburn Concert Series. The STARS choir opened the evening with war-era songs, and the play dealt with the memories of a World War Two veteran who returns to Normandy on the 60th anniversary of D-Day. Larry and Eleanor Skjerdal and Myrna Lohse and grandson Royce of Beaubier spent Good Friday in Weyburn at Byron and Donna Skjerdal’s. Tammy and Cory Lund, daughter of Kaitlyn and granddaughter Brooklynn of Innisfail, Alta., arrived to visit her parents, Elwood and Betty Skjerdal of Beaubier on Good Friday, and spent until April 18 when they left for home. They were joined on April 15 by Harry and Sherry Lauder of Oungre, Brent and Loretta Skjerdal, Dustin and Kim Skjerdal, Dane and Jace, Quentin and Brittni Skjerdal, Sophie and Jake of Weyburn, Kayla Skjerdal and friend Adam of Saskatoon, Courtney Skjerdal, Kevin Skjerdal and daughter Olivia and Duane and Delores Larsen of Weyburn for a day of visiting and food. Word was received of the passing of Marguerite “Elora” Solheim on April 14, of Emerald Park and formerl of Outlook, at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Pastor Arthur Solheim, in 2015. Pastor Solheim was the pastor at Lake Alma Lutheran Church, and in Beaubier, Immanuel. Oungre, Gladmar, Overland and Nordalen from 1948 to 1954. Three of their children, Joyce, Brian and Ruth, were born while they lived at Lake Alma.
