Letter from the Editor Introducing the 2019 Industry
As a small business owner, I know that having access to the right information and the right connections is critical for success. That’s why my colleagues and I are so pleased to present the annual
Industry Resource Directory in this issue. If you want to add motorized shades to your product line but aren’t sure who is offering them, or are seeking new fabric and trim suppliers, or are looking for help with professional services, the supplier’s guide may be your new best friend. With a quick glance, you can tell what companies offer what you need and how you can reach them. I hope you’ll hang on to this issue and refer back to it on a regular basis.
How can we help you with your other business needs? Welton Hong has another great piece on how to deal with less-than-flattering online reviews on page 16. Jason Zullo has a terrific piece on how to make thousands in 10 minutes (all in a column on page 18 that will take you two minutes to read). I’m excited that James Holloway has offered to do a “Business 101” series for us over the next several months. If you’re just starting a company or need a refresher on business basics, please review his article on page 20. For inspiration this month, make sure you check out the winners of the VISION Design and Workroom Competition Awards’ workroom category on page 43. They’re preceded by profiles of this year’s Designer of the Year, Katherine Wozniak, and Workroom of the Year, Linda Tully, because there’s nothing like learning from the success of your peers. And don’t miss the results of this year’s Window Fashions Artisan Projects, which made their world debut at this year’s International Window Coverings Expo. They are displayed on page 87.
Cheers,
Finally, I want to say thank you to everyone who participated in our recent reader survey. We’re taking those results and using them to build an even better magazine for you over the coming year. Please feel free to send me your thoughts and article ideas anytime.
