We really are ambassadors for the tenure rather than just our brand – we’re more than happy to have wider conversations about affordability and ways people can buy properties. “Shared ownership is not just for first-time buyers. It’s really open to all as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.” Buyers at East River Wharf will get access to a wide range of facilities with the vast majority already up and running. “In terms of the apartments at East River themselves, the quality is on a par with Ballymore. That’s a real key selling point for us. “Everything has outdoor space – either a balcony or a terrace and they are, of course, in a fantastic location. Buyers also get access to all the Royal Wharf facilities. There’s a real sense of community with the clubhouse. “Something I’m really excited about is the Sky Lounge, which will be on the 16th floor of one of Riverscape’s buildings. It’s due to open next year and will be a business lounge with far-reaching views across to Greenwich and Canary Wharf – a place to meet neighbours and collaborate with guests. There’s also a concierge service that oversees the seamless running of the estate too.” Go to landgah.com for more details

hat will become of the former Pier Tavern on the Isle Of Dogs? Following redevelopment work to create nine residential homes, the commercial parts of the property remain vacant, at the time of writing. Estate agency Strettons is currently marketing the historic building’s ground floor and basement for use as a pub following completion of work to create the new apartments. Extending to some 3,644sq ft, the unit has been left in a “shell and core” state with an asking rent of £67,500 per year – that’s £5,625pcm – as a pub or for use by a community group. Locally listed, the building was one of few Victorian structures to survive the bombing during the Second World War with its list of licensees dating back to at least 1865 when William Malpas was in charge of the beer. In 2013, it became a pizza restaurant called Mourinho’s before closing for the recent redevelopment. Architects Rivington Street Studio from Bromley-By-Bow, created the design for JCS Developments, with work concluded in June last year. Since then, the pub space has been empty, begging the question whether anyone will take it on. Granted, recent years have not been kind to the hospitality sector and it may be that an

operator is just waiting for the current economic climate to stabilise before swooping in and trying something out. The Isle Of Dogs has a long history of decline in terms of pubs closing, with only The Ship, The Ferry House,
The Lord Nelson, The Tooke Arms, The George and The Waterman’s Arms still trading. With the exception of the latter two, all are located on the western half of the Island, with only limited hospitality options along the whole east side. The tide may be turning for pubs locally, however. Far East Consortium’s Consort Place includes provision for the refurbishment and reopening of The North Pole in Manilla Street. While numerous establishments have now gone from the area forever – notably The Cubitt Arms, close to the Pier Tavern which was converted into flats – the fact that the developer is continuing to market this Manchester Road property as a going concern,
breeds hope. Suffice to say it’s closer to Mudchute DLR station than to Island Gardens – as the sales materials would have us believe – but perhaps there is room for a reborn pub close to the park and farm. The Pier Tavern, at 299 Manchester Road is on the market with Strettons in Leytonstone. Those interested in a viewing should contact Abas Anwar on 07803 850 230.
