Unibail-Rodamco-West field (URW) has unveiled a collection of some 1,225 newly built rental homes in Stratford. Prices for a studio apartment at Coppermaker Square will start at £2,275 per month with one-beds, two-beds and three-beds also available.
To put that in context, new-build studio apartments at 10 George Street in Canary Wharf start at £2,100 per month in the Vertus managed building – the difference between the two loca tions being some £2,100 a year.
Located next to Westfield Stratford City, the E20 properties have been developed by the shopping centre’s owner working with architects PRP and are billed as having been “purpose-built to suit aspirational city living”.
Managed by rental firm Grey star, residents will have access to facilities such as a 25m swimming pool, a jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms, a gym and two fitness studios with a programme of classes including Yoga, spin and Pilates.
There will also be a 24-hour concierge, residents’ events and an app allowing occupants to book services such as dog walking, personal trainer sessions and a private dining room.
Residents will also get auto matic membership to the Copper maker Club which boasts a lounge and games space, a screening room, an outdoor terrace and a roof garden.
The scheme also has a co-working space with refresh ments for those working remotely but who’d prefer not to stay in their apartment.
As for the properties them selves, tenants can expect full height glazing, fitted kitchens with AEG and Zanussi appliances, underfloor heating and air condi tioning as well as fibre broadband included in the price.
Apartments can be rented either furnished or unfurnished and tenants can choose either dark or light colour palettes for the interior. Maintenance operatives will also be available for an hour on move-in to help with hanging pictures, installing shelves or building furniture.
The first of the six buildings to become available at the devel opment will be Harrison – set
to open in January. Christened in honour of Karen Harrison, the first female train driver in the UK, all the blocks have been named after key individuals in the history of rail travel.
Stratford is one of the most well-connected places in London with Overground, Jubilee line, Elizabeth Line, rail and DLR services all serving its central station.
Canary Wharf is a few minutes away and the hub recently got a direct route through central London to Heathrow and Reading.
Locally, a lot is happening. The development of East Bank will see several major cultural institutions move to Stratford which already benefits from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and several venues from the 2012 Games.
It’s also close to Hackney Wick and Fish Island – both as thriving and vibrant as Stratford as many regeneration projects complete, offering space and support for new businesses to enter the area.
This is a pattern set to continue as Stratford’s International Quarter London continues to expand and attract more jobs to the area.
“Coppermaker Square is a welcoming community for anyone who is looking for a secure, long-term rental option with fantastic amenities included,” said Sukkanya Siva, residential development director at URW.
“We’ve taken what we know about delivering outstanding quality and service in our retail destinations and are raising the bar for renters in London.
“We’ve put the resident at the heart of Coppermaker Square and designed it to suit busy London lifestyles – whether that’s fitting in a workout before heading into the office, organising a dogsitter or working from home in a dedicated, tech-enabled space.
Residents will have all they need, supported by a dedicated on-site team to help take the hassle out of renting”
One-beds at Coppermaker Square start at £2,480 per month, two-beds at £2,815 and three-beds at £3,985. Go to coppermakersquare.com

Reg puts the finishing touches to the picture
a frame fit for the king
by Jon Massey
This is Reginald Beer, antique map and print dealer, picture framer and propri etor of Frontispiece – based at Cannon Workshops next to West India Quay.
He was recently commissioned by Ben Lopez of photographic restoration company Loved Ones Forever to do an unusual job at short notice.
Ben’s company had been reportedly engaged to produce two copies of an image for King Charles, showing our present monarch with his mother, our late Queen.
Apparently the King’s favourite, one print was destined for his collection,
while the other would be auctioned with proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Reg was tasked with framing the second print and affixing a certificate of authenticity to it from the palace in a single day, ready for the sale. A time lapse video of the process was created at his east London workshop as an historic record. The lot sold for £35,000.
Frontispiece offers hundreds of thousands of antique maps and prints (including many of London and Dock lands) as well as a full framing service – ideal for festive gifts or for sprucing up interiors. Now it can legitimately claim to offer a service fit for the King.

Bright colours on build ings are becoming some thing of a trademark for housing association Poplar Harca. There are the vibrant shopfronts of Aberfeldy Street, created to raise the profile of its meanwhile use scheme. Then there are the giant letters of artist Ben Eine, designed to spruce up shopfront shutters at Chrisp Street Market.
Such projects act to both give areas a rapid facelift and as visual announcements of regeneration in the works. Poplar Harca and Hill Group’s latest collaboration has been with artist Rose Hill, Co-Creative Connection and the residents of the Teviot Estate.
The housing association is engaged in a joint venture with developer Hill to regenerate another large chunk of Poplar, with the aim of providing around 1,750 new homes, public spaces, play areas and faith facilities.
The brightly coloured mural is intended as a precursor to that work and was designed during six sessions hosted by Rose and attended by local residents.
“It was extremely important that we captured the diversity of this wonderful community in the selected design,” said Rose.
“Our bold use of pattern and colour visually highlights the fact that beauty can be found in differ ence – the mismatching patterns uniting to form a cohesive, stunning piece of art.”
Inspiration came from a wide variety of sources including the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Scottish heritage of the original owner of Teviot, African and Islamic artwork to reflect resi dents’ backgrounds and flags and rainbows for inclusivity.
After the design was finalised,

it was then painted by Rose with help from people living locally, earlier this year.
“While helping in the creation of the mural, I felt like I was part of something truly positive for our community,” said Teviot resident Falone Bulsa. “Not only has the art outwardly brightened our community, but this project has created an opportunity for all generations to get together and chat every week.
“Hopefully, I have made some friends for life through this process.”
Kelly Player, social value manager at Hill, said: “Commu nity engagement has always been central to our regeneration plans. We strongly believe local residents should be placed at the heart of the design process and this mural is a visual reminder of this pact.
“Its bold, contrasting patterns reflect the multitude of voices that helped create this striking mural.
“Due to the success of this project, we hope to create similar works in the future.”
Ana-Mae Contreras Ramirez, Poplar HARCA, said: “It’s fantastic to see this bold, striking mural come to life in Teviot, taking its place alongside Poplar’s tradition as a place for street art.
“It’s been great to see the community engaged in telling stories about their lives and the place through this artwork.
“Residents are at the heart of all our work and we’re looking forward to furthering oppor tunities for the community to drive the Teviot regeneration as it moves forward.”
