Lekau Sehoana, was born in Limpopo at Mankweng Hospital and he is currently residing in Midrand. He is the man behind the well growing and loved comfy sneakers named Drip, which is taking over on the streets with various stunning colours. Drip started operating from the 26th of July 2019, it’s a project that took almost 2 years to put together as we had to come up with different types of strategies, designs, marketing, resources, finance etc. up until we released 26 Pairs of approved design from the initial 600 pairs. One of the challenges we came across when we commenced was obviously to get people to understand the -

PAGE 02 ESTABLISHED BUSINESSES

product, a lot of people were sceptical at first, but as we pushed it people started opening up, welcoming and we grew from there. The other challenge has been cashflow because we are growing at a faster pace, we keep making more shoes to make up for the growing demand. But otherwise, that is a positive problem. My actual highlights as I am growing the brand is - everyone that keeps coming back to buy more colours or keeps posting on social media or keeps tagging us. Also everyone I meet on the streets wearing the brand and they don’t even know me. That really makes me realise that we are getting somewhere.

PAGE 03

Let's talk the Covid19 impact, “It impacted us different to how it impacted other small businesses, we have been selling more during these challenging times because our marketing strategies are different and they go directly to consumers. People are now home and they have time to check us out and try us out”. We are now opening two new stores, in Newtown Junction Workshop and in the Pretoria CBD next to the Reserve Bank.

Employees are also a huge part of growing any company we wanted to understand the calibre of employees Mr Sehoana has and how he make sure that he empower them too and he replied by saying, “Employment is a scarce thing these days, having a job is slowly becoming a privilege. I empower my employees by giving them key roles and teach them skills of running a company, also by being close to them and be inspiration to them”. Lastly, what's your MOTTO, "A loss is not a loss, but a lesson” JayZ said this once in his song. Every time we fail in something, we need to get up and try again. We can’t afford to look like our problems. We carry on and make sure we don’t go through that ever again”. - Lekau Sehoana

Hlengi Hans Ngidi is the owner of Izulu Spirits. She was born in Pietermaritzburg Imbali township stage 2 and now resides in Johannesburg Bedfordview. She studied graphic design at Durban University of Technology. She is also a qualified Assessor and Trainer and have worked for companies like Loreal SA. Currently she is studying Trichology with the Institute of Trichologist UK. "At the back of my head I always had this dream of owning an up market lounge. In 2019 December 1st, I decided to jump in and open a gin bar ‘Zulu the Gin Gallery’ the purpose of the Gin gallery is to share and showcase our African culture to their cultures".

PAGE 05 POTENTIAL BUSINESSES

"Africans have always been the ones to adopt other cultures and I felt it was time for us to be embraced by other cultures, which is why I chose Bedfordview for my gin bar. Bedfordview has a very strong presence of European, American, Asian and other foreign cultures. Also I was planning to launch our in-house gin and I was still in a research process and putting together our botanicals and herbs when the pandemic happened, but I decided to go ahead and launch the gin anyway. This gin is all about the mighty Nguni cultures. We have infused it with South African botanics. It is a gin that is distilled in South Africa and is owned by a black woman. It’s a very smooth gin full of flavour. It’s a gin from heaven (Izulu). This is not just a gin but it’s an honor to our African heritage and pride”.

PAGE 06

When you started, what were your challenges? "The challenges were financial gate keeper, starting your own brand is a very expensive exercise, everything you need must be bought in bulk but if you do a proper research there are companies who provide assistance to small batch distillery. Access to the market, as this market has its own players who are already well known and are commercial. So you have to find a way of getting people to try your brand. But the most important thing is to produce quality and great customer service and prompt delivery”.

"Lastly we haven't participated in any event yet as the Covid19 began just when we were about to start getting our spirits to the streets but yes we are looking forward to any collaborations and other role players who would need us to be part of the drinks on their functions".

The Go To Guy

A PLATFORM TO ADVERTISE/MARKET YOUR BUSINESS

Frans Joubert is the founder of GO TO GUY, he is currently staying in North West Province and born in Boksburg in 1968, the time when men went to the moon and the impossible became possible, a core value therefore of the business is “can-do” and innovation. Frans Joubert is a Certified Director via the Institute of Directors in the UK where he holds a Masters Equivalent in Directorship.

The Go-To Guy was started in 2018 and the concept was started due to Frans seeing that small businesses don't have the resources available to advertise services across the various social platforms that forms the crux of exposure on the Internet, as well as many businesses being lost in the clutter of messages that customers are bombarded with daily.

Frans also identified the need for an easy to remember name for people to remember when looking for a Service Provider at Home, Work or Play, and therefore came up with the name of The Go-To Guy.

PAGE 08 POTENTIAL BUSINESSES

What do you think it's lacking to small businesses,, "Startups do not always have “social proof” of their track record, hence when engaging with customers there is a need for building of trust, this could take a long time to establish and startups therefore are suffering to connect to customers. Small business also do not always have the time and resources to create a presence across all social media platforms, so we need to help each other through advice, networking, cross referencing, cross tagging, in general we need to mentor each other and continue to build a circle of friends.

When starting, what were your challenges? I can say getting momentum in a business is difficult, the first steps on how to start were not clear and made the early days a bit day-2-day instead of working according to a plan, in the end it was important to plan the work and then work the plan. Also finding the right people was also a challenge and the initial part of the business was indeed a failure with lots of funds lost as a result. Business that wish to be listed can simply send us an email at:theteam@thegotoguy.co.za WhatsApp on 083-209-1870 or visit www.thegotoguy.co.za Customers looking for a service provider contact details can simply visit our www.thegotoguy.co.za.

"Pure Monate Juice was established on the 23rd of April 2019. This enjoyable juice has different kinds of fruits infused into it, of course with other ingredients that I will not display, in order to give it that savouring taste that will be able to quench ones thirst while satisfying their taste buds. Whenever there were events around home I would have the thought of producing affordable beverages to people around and for their events and that is when the thought of selling juice came into mind, the name came from a young brainstorm session I had with my family and spouse " .

PAGE 11 POTENTIAL BUSINESSES

"Pricing the juice was the first challenge I had encountered, having to stock bottles at a reasonable price and marketing the juice to people. We had to decide on a price that is affordable and will yet still amount to profit".

"My highlights includes serving people’s homes, local petrol stations and all sorts of events such as the 013 people’s picnic, the Networking dinner 1085 and the Gae Lapeng Concepts. Pure Monate Juice is commonly found in Limpopo, Jane Furse and the surrounding areas of Sekhukhune, also from time to time it will be available in the Gauteng province".

"Lastly, the prohibition of events was the main challenge for me during lockdown"

“I have always wanted to my own business from a very young age but because I grow up with low self-esteem I often felt I’m just not good enough to run a business until I registered my company in 2015. It wasn’t an easy step, had a lot of self-doubt and It took a lot of courage to overcome the conflict within. At first I registered a promotions company but later got bored with it, maybe because I didn’t have experience in promotions so I gave up. In 2017, I was visiting a friend, who’s a full time working single mother of 2 and the first thing I noticed was how dirty her house was, to make matters worse there’s kids in the house. In that very moment it occurred to me,

that time is luxury for my friend as she’s always at work, juggling work, the kids, social life and still clean the house is almost impossible, that’s when Cleaning Made Easy was born. Also I realised that there’s a lot of people like my friend and since I have knack for cleanliness, I decided to start my own cleaning company " .

FASHION EXPLOSION NMB

Who has answers and solutions around the exodus of Talent in the EC migrating to other cities? This sounds like a rhetorical question because most of the art practitioners that decided to stay have been working hard to answer this question. It is evident when you see musicians working with graphics designers, photographers working close with dancers and these people trying to keep the entertainment scene alive.

Fashion explosion NMB is a project that seeks to improve chances of aspiring models to find better opportunities by providing the needed skills. Moreover it is a collective of photographer, models and fashion designer’s as the industry is tailor-made for these individuals to coexist.

PAGE 16 FASHION

"As a photographer who has worked with a number of local, national and International entities in music and the entertainment sphere in general it was not hard to reach out to models as I have created a portfolio for Miss Sundowns EC 2010, worked on a number of fashion show in Port Elizabeth and East London while I was a freelance photographer for BeatMagazine", Sebenzile.

"We organised shoots to build portfolios,Zcards and job opportunities to model in fashion shows around the city. Another exciting initiative is going to help in old age homes during the month of July to commemorate Mandela day. One of our major challenges is working with photographers who did not understand the long term vision of the project. So in order for the project to grow and expand I had to team up with Fly lense Photography headed by Luxolo Makana. This gentleman is a filmmaker, Journalist and has worked in a number of local and National Models including a Miss Port Elizabeth".

"We have worked with a number of people who are our collaborative partners Like ;Bitta Designs, House of Tshiwo original, Ndimbi, Black Ambition and also seasonal models. On Facebook we are FASHION EXPLOSION NMB please follow us for more info". S Zalabe.

Matiwane, who is from East London but currently residing in PortElizabeth. She came to PE to obtain a qualification at the Nelson Mandela University. She is in possession of a National Diploma in Human Resource Management and studying towards an Advance Diploma in the respective field.

"Kwa Kuhle is a newly established business. I started caterirng to the public in February 2020. I don't even know where to begin because speaking about this one makes me teary, it's so close to the heart. I think that's what triggered me to start this venture sooner than I had planned to. I mean, I am an entrepreneur at heart and I believe that everything I touch, I have the ability to multiply. The idea was always there, but the “when” was still pending".

PAGE 24 FOOD

"I think more than anything, my biggest challenge was starting a business without any capital set aside for that. It's a constant struggle of generating sales, acquaring a bit of the assets and resources, only those that you can afford at the time with the little that you have and repeating the process again, each new week or month, until you have almost everything that you need and start seeing returns. When I believed I was fully ready to start sharing my meals with the community, I grabbed the bull by its horns and I didn't look back".

D A D D Y ON DUTY

Petros Sithole is a self-taught writer, born and groomed in the dusty streets of Mmakaunyana, a small village in the outskirts of North West. He holds a Diploma in Law and currently studying towards completion of his LLB degree. His role and involvement in his community include the foundation of his NGO Tsoga Youth Foundation.

His love for writing began in 2015, when he has just sold his laptop in exchange of a Tablet. He recently published a book titled “Daddy on duty, Bohlale – a call for fathers”. One night, just after a week his daughter was born, he experienced a miraculous behaviour from his daughter. With such attention and love for children, He began writing the book.

"Challenges I encountered includes having to wait late night until the baby is asleep in order for me to write. Sometimes having to not sleep at all. My book is self-published, financing it was not really costly".

PAGE 31 BOOK RECOMMENDATION

ABOUT THE BOOK: "South Africa alone has an extraordinarily high number of absent fathers, with almost half of the children living in this country are deprived and without daily contact of their fathers.

"This situation presents social and developmental challenges. In this book, I try to address the void caused by the practices of some men in evading their responsibilities. Importantly, this book will redress and retain the stature of what manhood is, and what fatherhood entails. While it is often unknown why so many fathers disengage from their children’s lives. This book offers an introspection of a man who is dedicated to his dad-role. Although, a father’s physical presence alone is not necessarily a positive outcome, but the altogether absence of a father has a disadvantageous consequence for families and the society. Responsible and engaged fathers who do their share of parenting work, are beneficial to the development of children and to building families and societies that better reflect gender equity and protect child rights. This is a piece that offers lessons to both men and women, to work together in raising a better society of children".

The book is currently available direct from the author for only R150, delivering through reliable courier companies. However, the writer is currently working on putting the book on Amazon. petros_chi
