The Easter holidays are here and many local attractions have just reopened their doors for the summer season, so we thought we would help you discover some of the best things to do in the UK’s largest National Park as a family!

insider’s guide things to do

1. Visit a Castle - Blair Castle, Braemar Castle and Balmoral Castle all reopen their doors on Friday 30th March for the Season. A great opportunity to teach the kids some Scottish history. Braemar Castle

2. Learn to Ski or Snowboard - Make the most of the great snow this year and take the kids to Glenshee, The Lecht or Cairngorm Mountain for ski or snowboard lesson. Lots of places offer hire equipment but it is advisable to pre book your gear and lessons in advance to avoid disappointment.

3. Swing in the Trees - Take your little monkeys on a treetop adventure at Treezone or Craggan’s High Ropes Course, fly through the canopies at Alvie’s Zip Trek Adventure Park or go on a woodland adventure at Landmark Forest Adventure Park. Age restrictions apply on some activities so please check with the individual business before booking.

4. Get out on your Bike - The Park boasts a huge range of mountain biking trails to suit all ages and fitness levels. There’s no need to own a bike with an array of places offering hire bikes, maps and local knowledge of routes to suit your experience level. Find out more at www.visitcairngorms.com/onabike

5. Pony/Horse Trekking - A treat for all the family and a great way to explore the Cairngorms. There are lots of places to have a go including Alvie Estate, Rothiemurchus, Carrbridge, Blair Castle and Highland Horse Fun. For more info visit www.visitcairngorms.com/horseriding Horse Riding at

6. Visit a Polar Bear Cub - The Highland Wildlife Park is home to the first polar bear born in the UK in 25 years. The enclosure is now open to the public and visitors may be able to catch a glimpse of the exciting new arrival.

FREE & Pocket Friendly Things To Do in the Holidays Having fun in the Cairngorms doesn’t need to break the bank. There are loads of free and low cost activities and places to visit. Here are a few ideas to get you started… ❏ Walks - What better way to get out and explore the Cairngorms National Park than going on a family walk. Visit our blog for lots of ideas for walkers of all levels. https://blog.visitcairngorms.com ❏ The Highland Folk Museum - Step back in time and discover what highland life was like from the 1700s up until the 1960s. A wonderful open air museum which is fun for all ages. Entry is free but donations are welcome. Our favourite bits: Exploring the township houses, feeding the chickens, milking the cow, the real life sweetie shop.

❏ Go for a Picnic - There are heaps of lovely places to enjoy a picnic but some of our favourites include Loch Morlich beach, Loch an Eilein, Loch Muick and Loch Insh. Visit our blog for more ideas. ❏ Watch the Strathspey Steam Railway - Watch the steam train chug through Boat of Garten and stand on the bridge as it passes underneath. Little kids in particular will love watching the goings on here but beware of the very loud noise of the train. You can hear it throughout Strathspey when it travels from Aviemore to Broomhill. ❏ Ranger Events - Cairngorm Rangers run lots of fun events to get involved in throughout the Park. Kids can take part in a bird box making workshop at Dinnet, Easter events at Glenmore and Blair Atholl or take a guided walk at Insh Marshes or Loch Garten. See event listings for details. What’s On
