W
elcome to What’s On, your free events guide for the Cairngorms National Park. This January/ February edition is jam packed with things to do for all the family to ensure you start 2019 with a bang! You’ll also find a fabulous choice of recommendations for where to eat, drink and stay to get the most out of your trip. If you’re looking for a memorable way to see in the New Year, then why not brave the cold waters at Loch Insh for a charity ‘loony dook’? Remember to claim your dippers’ discount on your bacon sarnie afterwards in the cafe! Or what about ushering in 2019 with a cobwebblasting 10k walk in Newtonmore to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Wildcat Trail? Join fellow walkers for shortbread and mulled wine at finishing line! As wellbeing consultant Wendy Palmer-Grove will tell you, at her New Year talks at the Grant Arms in Grantown, there is no better tonic than nature to soothe the pressures of hectic modern lives. One of our top picks at this time of year is the Siberian Husky Sled Dog Rally on the 26th-27th January. ‘Mushers’ (drivers) gather here from all over the UK in the forests around Aviemore and it’s a stunning spectacle to behold, the largest of its kind in the UK. If you love art and want to revel in the wintry season’s hues, then head to James Gordon’s ‘Winter’ photography exhibition in Chapel House Arts in Kingussie. Alternatively, for January and February, the Butterworth Gallery is showcasing new miniature Scottish fine art images. So, whether it’s high octane, adrenaline fuelled activities you’re after, or more chilled out ways to pass your precious time, then the Cairngorms has something for everyone.
