What’s On W in march
elcome to the Cairngorms National Park and the March edition of What’s On, the free events guide. Spring has definitely sprung! This is the time when the Park really wakes up from winter and looks forward to summer, with popular attractions like Landmark Forest Adventure Park coming out of ‘winter mode’ and becoming fully operational (opening weekend at Landmark is 30-31st March). One of March’s highlights is definitely the jampacked Braemar Mountain Festival, which takes place on 28th February - 3 March. Head over here to learn new skills from avalanche awareness to cross country skiing to snowshoeing - or simply sit back and listen to various adventurers taking to the stage telling their tales. If the festival whets your appetite for backcountry skiing in particular, then you’ll love Glenmore Lodge’s ‘Wild Ski’ weekend on 15-17th March. With the warmer, lighter weather it’s always easier to leave the comfort of your home for an evening of entertainment, whether it be a talk at the Boat Hall, a quiz at the Glen Hotel in Newtonmore or Ballater Ceilidh day at the Victoria & Albert Halls. If you’re after live music, the Park certainly delivers, with so many choices to soak up the atmosphere, such as The Winking Owl, the Fife Arms Hotel and The Old Bridge Inn, to name just a few. The Cairngorms National Park has something for everyone!
