elcome to the Cairngorms National Park and your October edition of What’s On, the free events guide. No need to mourn the end of summer in the Cairngorms because autumn is such a magnificent month, with the beautiful array of golden shades transforming the landscape. It’s the perfect time to enjoy a leaf-kicking walk with wee ones or, with the half-term, a bigger walking challenge with older ones (see our Insider’s Guide on Page 12). October is also synonymous with Hallowe’en, too, and a firm family favourite for this is Landmark Forest Adventure Park, which holds its ‘Spookfest’ from 5th-27th. You’ll also find ‘Tattie Holiday Fun’ happening in Glenlivet Hall from 18th-20th, with a host of activities celebrating the local wildlife and heritage. An ever-popular, world famous event is the Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship in Carrbridge on Saturday 12th October. Quite a different spectacle, but equally impressive, are the October deer ruts; The National Trust for Scotland is doing guided walks to witness this noisy ‘Clash of the Titans’ from 13th-20th October at Mar Lodge Estate. All this in addition to all the usual diverse mix of arts galleries and live music events, often completely free of charge. The Cairngorms National Park has something for everyone!
