Hence here are my suggestions for June - nothing too ‘heavy’ so I’ll ease you out gently to avoid the post-festival blues. Soak up the sun, if it indeed appears and wallow in the delightful gentle vibe of a less frantic city than of late. Kairen Kemp: focus@whatsonguide.co.uk

We turned up about 10 mins before the given time of 8pm, to find a mix of ages queuing outside in dresses & tuxedos with very much a 1920/30’s look. My friend, Manrico and I had just come straight from the office so not in period dress costume, but we thought what the hell and went in anyway.
Mushroom cream sauce. Devour this we did and both of us were pleasantly surprised by the speed of the service and the quality of our tasty dishes. The Wine continued to flow through to the dessert. We both opted for the “White Peach Pavlova”. It was simply delicious.
The room was buzzing and for a minute I thought I had gone back in time. We were shown to our table by John, who introduced himself and could not do enough to make us comfortable. Mojitos were ordered as Manrico had just touched down from a trip to Cuba and he was still in holiday mode. Our first course arrived – Bresaola for moi and soup for my friend. We were hungry so we demanded the mains thereafter and they turned up quick smart. Mine was the mustard crusted Salmon and Manrico’s was chicken with a
Did I mention the entertainment? Throughout dinner and thereafter we watched performers belt out Frankie Sinatra hits & lovely ladies undressed down to their tassles to give us some Burlesque. If you fancy a dining experience with a difference, this night really does offer some great entertainment. I would recommend that if you do go though its worth getting in to the swing of things and dressing up for the occasion. I’ll be going back with a group of friends next time.

health&lifestyle Summer is nearly upon us (really) and so it’s time to sort out the extra pounds one has accumulated over the winter months through all the comfort eating. I have decided to take action and get fit so I will be ready for the swimming budgies (think Daniel Craig) this summer come hell or high water. My mate Neil told me to go see Brandon at Active 4 Less in Hove. Suzie Williams: Waters: eat@whatsonguide.co.uk Justin health@whatsonguide.co.uk
Active4Less Hove
Unit 1, Portland Road Trading Estate, Hove. 01273 415515, active4lesshove.com So this will be the start of my journey to try and restore my body confidence back on the beaches of Cannes, Barcelona, Ibiza, Rio but more likely Brighton Beach this summer in 4 weeks. I am not a huge gym fan, I like a gentle game of tennis weekly on a Friday morning. I have been a member of just about every gym & health club in the city. Time to re-evaluate how I get fit and more importantly think about it strategically as diet will be key to this process. So off I went to meet with Brandon at Active for Less for a chat before I enlisted and my first impressions were good, I could park if I drove, there are good bus routes and a bike park. Once inside the gym it has
a good feel to the place and the staff and members seem very happy and friendly, always a good sign. On our first meeting Brandon shows me the various zones around the Gym. This has been well thought through and there is even a women only area. Brandon explained that the key to losing weight will be exercise, diet and new technologies which I was intrigued to know more, but that would all come later. So this is the start to loose weight and be in those budgies before you can say Daniel Craig eat your heart out. Watch this space for next months update to to see how I get on.

Wimbledon Highlights
Former British No.1 Greg Rusedski is making a welcome return to the court this summer. He has been confirmed to play in a special legends match on Sunday June 17th. Rusedski. Also worth watching is World No.41 Marcos Baghdatis.
Wimbledon as ever will see the finest players from over 60 countries competing. The favorites for the Wimbledon 2012 tournament is going to depend heavily on how the first two Grand Slam tournaments go in Sydney and Paris. On the men’s side, lookout for both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic to be favoured, while Roger Federer will no doubt be looking to get back to winning on the grass. As for the women in Wimbledon 2012, with the field being as wide open as it’s ever been, expect plenty of surprises. Can Caroline Wozniacki finally break through? Or can Knitova repeat. It’s going to be a thrilling couple of weeks at the All England Club. www.wimbledon.com
Ana Ivanovic is also set to return to Eastbourne this year. She recently referred to Eastbourne as a ‘charming tournament and one of the most competitive on the Tour – ‘The grass is beautiful.’ Last year 13 of the 20 top ranking female players competed at this tournament and this year are expected to attend once again. www.lta.org.uk

filmclub
filmclub We’re now into blockbuster season, as the movie machine starts to crank into top gear hoping to entice us out of the sun and into the cinema. This month there’s high concept (‘Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter’, 20th), favourites from yesterday (‘Top Cat – The Movie’, 1st), World War Two action (‘Red Tails’, 6th), a documentary on Woody Allen and a new comedy starring Simon Pegg (‘A Fantastic Fear of Everything’, 8th). Martin Lampitt: cinema@whatsonguide.co.uk
Fast Girls In Cinemas, 15th ‘Fast Girls’ tells the story of a British female relay team and the rivalry between council estate girl Shania (Lenora Crichlow) and rich kid Lisa (Lily James). Apparently the creative team were on a tight deadline to get this out before the Olympics and unfortunately it shows, mainly in the sketchy script. Events become too convenient in order to progress the plot, stereotypes abound and the characters seem a little two dimensional. Anyone who has watched BBC3’s excellent ‘Being Human’ will know that Critchlow is an extremely likeable and capable actress but what makes a great sporting movie is the protagonist’s struggle and there is not enough at stake here to

make her journey as convincing as it needs to be. Noel Clarke, who also appears as the girls’ coach, can obviously write an engaging, witty script solo (the immensely enjoyable ‘4.3.2.1’) but here the words cooks and broth spring to mind as he shares the credit with Jay Basu and Roy Williams. It’s ably directed by Regan Hall and some nice supporting roles from Phil Davies and Clarke but I can only give this the bronze. If you’re a fifteen year old girl then you’ll probably lap this up as the predictably feel good ending hits all the right buttons but, for me, ‘Fast Girls’ limped across the finish line rather than storming home.

Glastonbury The Movie Revisited

In Cinemas, 29th As the festival is not taking place this year fans can console themselves with a new version of the absolutely brilliant historical look at Worthy Farm through the ages. Re edited from scratch with the benefit of new technology, the film now has an extra thirty minutes of unseen footage and a crisp, new sound mix. Just add your own mud for authenticity.
Juan of the Dead On DVD, 4th This satirical horror tells the blooddrenched tale of a slacker who decides to save Cuba from an invasion of cannibalistic zombies. As the zombies turn Havana into a gory circus of flying limbs, the nightly news anchors continue to calmly assert the government line, that the attacks are not the work of the undead but dissidents in the pay of the United States.
Prometheus In Cinemas, 1st My excitement levels for this one are off the Richter scale. Nearly twenty five years after director Ridley Scott completed ‘Alien’ he returns to the same universe to explain where those pesky xenomorphs came from. With a stellar cast including Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce, a story that has been shrouded in secrecy and some great viral marketing, this could be the movie of the summer.
Competition
We have some Prometheus goodie bags up for grabs, courtesy of the good people at Twentieth Century Fox. To be in with a chance of winning one just answer this simple question. Q: What year was ‘Alien’ originally released? Email your answer, along with your name and address to cinema@whatsonguide.co.uk by 15th July 2012 with ‘Prometheus competition’ as the subject. Good luck.

uefa2012
uefa2012 Euro 2012 is upon us! Queue the flutter in the chest and the ache in the stomach for fans of English football. Poland and Ukraine are hosting, with the Ukraine appearing for the first time. Reigning European and World Cup champions Spain are on form and looking to add a third European title to their growing collection. The tournament kicks off on June 8th with the final on July 1st. Gareth Becker : editorial@whatsonguide.co.uk
The Team To Beat Spain has dominated international football since they adopted their revolutionary tiki-taka style before the Euro ’08 championship. They won the ’10 World Cup after a slow start and banished any doubts about their continued footballing flair after qualifying for Euro ‘12 with eight wins out of eight. If La Furia Roja can win this tournament, they will be the first ever team to take three major titles in a row.
The Contender Germany have an axe to grind in Euro ‘12, they went out of both Euro ’08 and The World Cup ’10 after losing 1-0 to Spain. Historically Germany is the top performing side in the European cup, winning four times since 1972. They’ll be looking to increase that this year with the help of star striker Miroslav Klose, he needs six goals to become Germany’s highest scoring player ever.
The Outsiders Third seed is split between the Netherlands and England. The Dutch qualified for Euro ‘12 with a game to spare and they must fancy their chances; they were the top scorers during the qualifiers with 37 goals. Meanwhile England looks for vindication after failing to qualify in ’08. They pulled off a friendly win against Spain late last year, but are still dealing with the effects of off pitch turbulence. 32

livemusic Well, May was a washout wasn’t it? Apart from the music that is … with The Great Escape fulfilling tastes far and wide, who cares if the temperatures plummet and ice cream becomes an offensive idea? I imagine most of you do, but if it’s going to be a bland British summertime, then treat yourself to lashings of alt rock, skinny folk, double entendres and BRIT winners on your wet doorsteps. Thomas Doyle: live@whatsonguide.co.uk
Cursive Fri 1st, Audio If you like your alt rock peppered with intellect and intrigue, then Cursive are the band for you. On track ‘Drunken Birds’, the band sound like a bull exploding out of a cannon before a mixture of fragile vocals, jittery guitars and funky bass create a delicious treat. The Nebraskan lads will kick up a storm at Audio, so lose yourself in chin-stroking trash. cursivearmy.com
Dick Valentine Sat 2nd, The Albert The man behind Electric Six (they’re back here in December) hits the road with material from his wonderfully titled solo album ‘Destroy the Children’, that promises to be beautifully melodically, insane. His tracks feature hand claps, acoustic guitars and strings, and it could be the best gig of your life. If not, hurl abuse at me, or Tyler Spencer (that’s his real name.) last.fm/music/Dick+Valentine
Jim White Wed 6th, Proud Brighton Ballroom Florida-born Jim White brings his unique brand of alt-country to our shore and it should be one hell of a journey. Album ‘Wrong Eyed Jesus’ earned him critical acclaim, but White is hungry for new experiences and means of expression; the man is truly a law unto himself, and you’ll want to catch him before he wanders off on another mysterious sojourn. jimwhite.net 42

Fri 8th , Blind Tiger After travelling hundreds of miles with a double bass strapped to the roof of their Land Rover, the least you could do would be to show your faces for Skinny Lister. Sounding like a cross between Mumford & Sons and drunken farmers, check out the infectiously catchy ‘Rollin Over’ - the video even has pigs in it! Now how can you argue with that … skinnylister.com/skinnyblog
Bad Manners Sun 10th, Concorde 2 You don’t get banned from Top Of The Pops if you’re a ‘swell’ group, and English ska band Bad Manners did what they said on the tin by annoying Auntie so much that she could do without the antics of frontman Buster Bloodvessel. With hits such as ‘Special Brew’ to throw yourself around to, in the words of Family Guy’s Peter Griffin: “C’mon …” myspace.com/badmannersofficial
The View Sun 24th, Concorde 2 They might not have the same jeans on as they did when they released their first album, but Glaswegian indie-rockers The View have won the hearts of fans across the globe with their accessible brand off cathartic mayhem on debut ‘Hats off to the Buskers’. With a third album of tall tales, spill your pints to some rowdy young folk once more. theviewareonfire.com
Kate Nash Thurs 28th, The Haunt After shooting to stardom with album ‘Made of Bricks’ in 2007, Kate Nash is back for fresh success. The Londonborn artist (as if you couldn’t tell) won the Best Female Artist winner at the 2008 BRITs, and her mixture of honesty, pain and humour sets her apart from the pretenders.
