CHRISTMAS MARKET IN SPIKERSUPPA

CHRISTMAS MARKET IN THE BOTANICAL GARDENS

A traditional Christmas market in beautiful surroundings at an old farm (Tøyen hovedgård) inside Oslo botanical gardens. There will be stalls selling handicraft products, homemade delicacies and gift items. There will be coffee, waffles and other hot drinks. For those who want to welcome Christmas with songs on this Saturday before the first Sunday in Advent, there will be the opportunity to walk around the Christmas tree and practice old and familiar Christmas songs, and maybe some new ones.

MEDIEVAL CHRISTMAS MARKET AT THE RUDOLF STEINER SCHOOL IN OSLO

This is one of Oslo’s classic and very atmospheric Christmas markets, at the Rudolf Steiner School in Oslo. It stands out for its medieval sensibility, with activities such as archery and people dressed in medieval clothes. It’s a big market with lots of stalls with handicrafts, homemade Christmas food and Christmas decorations, using natural materials.

THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FAIR

The Christmas Fair at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History is a popular tradition among both tourists and locals. The Christmas market has over 100 old-fashioned stalls where you can purchase homemade crafts, Christmas decorations, cakes and other treats. The museum's cafés are decorated for the holidays and serve coffee, gingerbread cookies and other Norwegian Christmas specialities. In the decorated houses you can see how Norwegians have celebrated Christmas through the years. You can also visit Santa's workshop and enjoy choral music and folk dancing.

AKERSHUS SLOTT

Akershus Castle

Akershus castle was built as a fortified medieval castle around the year 1300. Since then the castle has been at the centre of events in Norwegian history. Today it is used for state representation and cultural events. A tour of the castle takes you through the Government representation rooms, The Castle Church, The Royal Mausoleum and The Dungeon.

The museum covers Norwegian military history from the Viking era, through the numerous Nordic wars under Danish rule (1400-1814) to the Napoleonic wars, the union with Sweden 1814-1905, the World War II campaign 1940 and the War at Sea 1939-1945. Norway´s Resistance Museum

At the top of Akershus Fortress lies one of the most central institutions for resistance history in Norway. The main exhibition focuses on the German occupation of Norway, as well as how the resistance against the Nazi occupational regime developed from the 9th of April 1940 until liberation in May 1945.

ASTRUP FEARNLEY MUSEET

Founded in 1993, the museum is one of Scandinavia´s most notable museums for contemporary art. The museum holds the extensive Astrup Fearnley Collection, with significant works by some of today’s leading international artists and presents changing exhibitions that both draw on the collection and new commissions by artists from all over the world. The museum is beautifully located by the Oslo Fjord in an iconic building designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano.

This is where you find dinosaurs and other fossils, crystals, rocks, meteorites and other highlights from our collections. Visit our geological exhibitions or explore our interactive installations in the Climate House, with exhibitions on climate and environmental issues. Our zoological exhibitions are temporarily closed in the period of 11 November until 20 December.

The museum also includes a large botanical garden demonstrating the beauty and variation of the plant kingdom. Visit the arboretum with trees from Norway and other corners of the world, and the thematic gardens such as The Viking Garden and The Rock Garden. In the middle of the garden there is a nice café, and our museum shop carries a wide selection of gift items.

The Vigeland Museum

The Vigeland Museum is a sculpture museum located next to The Vigeland Park. The museum is Gustav Vigeland’s former studio and residence.

At the top of Oslo you can visit Holmenkollen National arena, a site where many ski-historical moments have been created. In the heart of the arena towers Holmenkollen Ski Jump. On top of the jump tower you can enjoy spectacular views of Oslo and the surrounding areas.

HOLMENKOLLEN SKI SIMULATOR

New Ski Simulator in Holmenkollen. It is a Movie-Ride Theatre.

Experience Downhill Skiing at 130 km/ hour – and Ski-jumping at 100 km/hour. Ski Simulator next to the Holmenkollen ski jump! Jump in “Kollen” and find out what it feels like to head down the world’s toughest downhill ski slopes alongside the world’s best performers on two skis. Technology which used to be available only to pilots and astronauts combines flight simulator movements with an “eye-view” movie to create a unique and realistic feel. Once inside the the Ski Simulator you will get the “ride of your life”, when the skiing starts. Up to 12 people can sit inside at the same time and the whole ride lasts about 5 minutes. “Amazing ride, amazing experience. It made me realize how crazy you have to be to go skiing at 130 km/h and how dangerous it is”

The Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies, located in Villa Grande, the former residence of the Nazi collaborator Vidkun Quisling, is a research, education and documentation center. At City Hall pier 3 you find our traditional sightseeing boats and sail schooners. These boats have been taking tourists on the Oslo fjord since 1946.

The 2 hour Fjord Sightseeing has 2 departures every day all winter. Light warm meals, hot drinks and wine are sold on board.

On the return to the city, we stop at the Museums at Bygdøy at 12.15 and 14.45 Guests taking the first cruise, can go off at 12.15 and visit the museums for 2,5 hours before taking the next boat back at 14.45

Tickets to the museums are not included, but we sell Oslo Pass, which gives free admission to the museums, and 15 % discount on the boat ticket.
