RACE TEAM Switzerland

The Bike-Riders of WHEELER - iXS Pro and Swiss Teams get the great achievements in the Disziplinen Cross Country and Marathon competition every year, paid attention by the Switzerland and International Competition successfully. But those excellent performances are significant only in the International Competition, the real rewards are in the Switzerland, Europa and World Championship. According to the two panaceas of using the Bike-Track: FALCON (Fully) and EAGLE (Hardtail). The results of the new developoment and original machine testing are as important as the consequence of the competition. Their testing and observing help the Product Manager and the Engineer of WHEELER to produce the most perfect products that they never made.

In 2010, it is the first time that German Bike-Riders stand for the “WHEELER“ to attend the International championship, and they use the Race-specific utensil, FALCON (Fully)and EAGLE (Hardtail) during the game. Surprisedly they not only make a good showing but also record this succussful 2010 season of the competition.

As the year pass, our team members was changed from old generation to newer generation to keep good performance of Wheeler Team. Old racer became coaches to transfer their experience to new blood racer. With good experience and intelligent of our athletes, Thailand Wheeler Team become one of the most successful mountain bike team in Thailand. Now, Thailand Wheeler team is consisted of Mr. Jui , the big brother of team, who is sponsored “Eagle Limited 2010” by Wheeler. Mr. Frank, joined with Thailand Wheeler team at this year, who is sponsored “Eagle LTD 2009 by Asiabike. Moreover, we have just gotten the newest members, which are Five Bangkok School members. With high performance and experience from generation to generation, we really to fight with our competitors.

The frame is every single WHEELER bike’s true centrepiece. And we do not settle for standard off-theshelf frames. Instead, an experienced team of engineers starts with a frame study, resorting to stateof-the-art technologies. Then the designs and other details are defined in cooperation with the product manager in charge and the marketing department. At this early stage of the development, wishes and ideas of our sponsored athletes, retailers and distributors are implemented. That way WHEELER makes sure that the basic concept of each and every model suits the target group’s taste exactly.

Once a rear triangle’s cinematics have proven their functionality in the simulation, a three-dimensional model of the frame is being produced on the computer. This is being checked meticulously by the product manager and the sales management. Only if everything is completely right, they agree to the production of a sample frame.

The policy of only offering complete bicycles is part pf our concept. While doing so we strongly emphasize perfection down to every single detail. Only the best materials and first-class componentry are being selected for the respective model line and price points. Up to-date facilities for production. manufacturing and assembly support our employees at their craft. Thanks to a variety of quality checks you are guaranteed to get high-class materials and meticulous welds - two factors highly relevant for your safety - as well as sophisticated geometries and a maximum of comfort as a consequence.

Based on the three-dimensional model, all individual parts are being machined on our in-house CNC lathe to the exactly right shape and accurate to a millimetre. Among other things, individual parts like dropouts with integrated disc mounts or the mounts for fenders and carriers on commuter bicycles are one of WHEELER’s specialities.

Based on a raw frame study, exact CAD construction drawings are being made. These allow the engineers to simulate the dynamic behaviour of a suspension frame’s swing arm in order to adapt it perfectly to the human anatomy. Additionally the exactly necessary strength of certain parts like a rocker link or a damper mount made of certain materials is being determined to make sure that these parts hold up to the loads that occur in real life. While doing so a lot of factors need to be taken into account, e.g. the consistency and the specific characteristics of each respective material.

When producing a sample frame, only the finest materials and WHEELER’s own CNC manufacturing plant are being used. Thanks to computers even complicated parts can be produced in a short time, subsequently putting them through their paces. «Hydra-Tube-Forming» is an increasingly important procedure which allows to press aluminum tubes into a given forms by means of highly-pressurized, thus shaping the tubes and allowing for a combination of decent looks, superior strength and low weight.

As soon as a sample frame is being finished it is being put through its paces: On a test stand, the frame is being checked for its strength according to the most recent EN norms. Only if it passes this test the frame is being approved.

Endurance test

Its up to professionals to give the definite okay for series production. Under the toughest imagineable conditions, our team riders and designers test the bicycles to their very limits. On the hardest circuits our test center «Il Cicalino» in Tuscany has to offer and in various races, they mercilessly carry the prototypes to an extreme on order to find and eliminate hidden weak points. Only if they do not see any reasons for complaints anymore, the production is being started. Apart from some mountain bikes made of carbon fibre and the R.A.M.P. models, all of the WHEELER bicycles’ frames are elaborately hand-made from high-grade 6000-series aluminum and heat-treated by specialists. As a result, WHEELER’s aluminum frames are even stronger and more durable than those widespread 7005-series aluminum frames. Even more so as the tubes of the latest generation of frames offer elaborate cross sections and built-in reinforcements thanks to the «Hydra-Tube-Forming»-technology. Thanks to details like shifting cables that are routed inside the top tube or the new, curved tubes of the commuter bicycles’ main frames the looks are harmonious. And the frames offer more interesting details to be discovered: For example, the «5 in 1»-dropouts do not only allow for a clean mounting of a disc brake, but also of fenders, a carrier and two different types of kickstands.
