MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Summer is on the way and it brings with it the prospect of lots of fun outdoors! I, for one, cannot wait! The concerts and movies are booked and we are ready to go with our full line-up of Summer Entertainment at the beautiful Heritage Park Performance Pavilion. Starting in June and continuing through August, we’ll have Friday night Headliner concerts once a month under the stars as well as musical entertainment every Sunday at 5:00 pm. Family Movies in the Park return once a month on Thursday night. It’s all free. Take a look at the schedule in this guide. The Family Aquatic Center is set to open on Saturday, May 29. Check the website for complete details. We look forward to welcoming you back to our water playground! Summer Camp to the rescue! It’s time to let kids be kids again. We are fortunate to have the space and the facilities to run Summer Camp safely while allowing children to enjoy the great outdoors and spend time with others their age. It will be great to see, and hear, all the campers back at the park district this summer making new friends and memories to last a lifetime. Now more than ever, we can all use some time away from our electronic devices and that’s where Unplug at the Park comes in to play. These community events are all about engaging with family, friends and neighbors at your neighborhood parks. Unplug and reap the benefits of parks and recreation close to home. Take advantage of the nice weather and hit the links at Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club and Rob Roy Golf Course. Those lush, green fairways are just waiting for you to hit them deep and straight. Make your tee-time today. While we have lots of plans for you this summer, your safety remains our number-one priority. Please check our website frequently for updates regarding programs and events. See you in the parks!

THE CROODS: A NEW AGE Thursday, June 24 • 8:00 pm
After surviving the end of the only world they knew, the Croods must find a new place to call home. They set off into uncharted waters, and soon enough, they come upon a haven that can provide for their needs. Unfortunately, there is a small problem: another family has already taken residence in the area. They are the Bettermans, and they have an intricately-made treehouse, effective farming, and many impressive inventions. It doesn't take long for the prehistoric to clash with the modern. Arrive by 8:00 pm for a pre-movie meet & greet from Woody from Toy Story!

Miyagi takes Daniel under his wing, training him in a more compassionate form of karate and preparing him to compete against the Cobra Kai. Arrive by 8:00 pm to have our special balloon artist design a unique take-home twisted creation of your choosing.

LIGHTNING PREDICTION LOCKER ROOMS The locker room is an amenity available & WARNING SYSTEMS REWARD PROGRAM By measuring the amount of electrical for use by all CRC participants. The charge in the atmosphere, Thorguard Warning System predicts with a high degree of certainty the probability of a lightning strike within a covered area. This system warns guests and staff with a horn and strobe system when a lightning strike hazard is present. Areas served by Thorguard include Heritage Park, Family Aquatic Center, CRC and all adjacent areas and neighborhoods. The system is intended to warn guests and staff of probable lightning hazards in the area so lightning-related injuries and deaths can be avoided. Since Thorguard is a lightning prediction system, it is possible for the warning system to be activated even when weather conditions do not seem to indicate lightning is present. Be assured that these warnings are accurate and must be followed to ensure personal safety. Two distinct signals sent out by Thorguard: RED ALERT External warning horns blare for 15 seconds and strobe lights begin to blink. This signifies a lightning hazard in the area. All outdoor recreation activity should be suspended and guests and staff should seek appropriate shelter, preferably indoors. ALL CLEAR External warning horns give three consecutive blasts lasting 3-5 seconds each. This means the lightning hazard has left the area and it is safe to resume
normal activities. Chevy Chase is protected under the WeatherBug lightning detection system.

VANDALISM
The Wheeling Park District has experienced a tremendous amount of vandalism. This vandalism in our community has included acts of arson, destruction of playground equipment and landscaping materials, destruction of bathroom fixtures, stolen materials and graffiti. Vandalism affects residents and other guests when bathrooms are closed, playground equipment is under repair and amenities are not available for use. Vandalism is costly to repair and results in higher insurance costs. In order to ensure the safest parks and facilities possible, we need your help. We ask that when you see or hear about vandalism or something that may be unsafe, such as broken playground equipment, or anything else that you feel may be hazardous, please call 847-465-3333 or complete the online Report a Problem form under the Parks and Facilities tab.
Help the Wheeling Park District stop vandalism in your neighborhood park. Call us with information about the person or persons who vandalize any Wheeling Park District property. This would include the destruction of any property such as vehicles, playground equipment or landscape materials, the theft of any equipment or materials, any act of arson, and any act of graffiti. If your information leads to arrest, case resolution and/or restitution, you will be given a reward from $500 to $5000. Your name will be kept confidential.
