MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT As Summer 2022 comes to a close, let’s take a moment and reflect on all the great times we had! It was wonderful to see friends and neighbors out golfing, swimming, enjoying the concerts, and participating in Park District programs. Excitement and enthusiasm were in the air at all events, which was a heartwarming feeling. There is not a better season than the summer in Wheeling! Thankfully, the memorable experiences do not stop with the summer season. The Wheeling Park District has a superb fall planned with activities for everyone. Spend time as a family and enjoy an autumn afternoon with pony rides, inflatables and a petting zoo at Fallapalooza on September 18. If a day full of food, beer, music and merriment is more your speed, then join us for the annual Oktoberfest on October 8. Get in the Halloween mood and spend a bewitching afternoon filled with crafts, carnival games and more at BOOnanza on October 21. Lace up your running or walking shoes and be sure to register early for the Day of the Dead 5K run on October 30, as the race did sell out in 2021! Run through picturesque Heritage Park and the streets of Wheeling, followed by a post-race celebration. Finish out the year and gobble 'til you wobble at the Thanksgiving Community Feast on November 20 and ring in the holiday season with the returning Holiday Hoopla on December 4. The sports complex is bursting with activities this fall! Get a softball team together and sign up to play on the turf fields or move inside to bump, set and spike your team to a win in the adult volleyball leagues. Sign the kids up for fall soccer, tumbling, basketball or martial arts! There is fun to be had both indoors and outdoors this season. The end of summer does not mean the end of golf! Fall is a great time to visit Traditions at Chevy Chase golf course. With scenic views and changing colors, it is the perfect season for a round of golf. Speaking of changes, fall is also a great time to make some positive health changes too! Visit the Health & Fitness Center and participate in the variety of group exercise classes offered. Wheeling Park District has a lot of opportunities to remain active throughout the fall season. May we continue creating memorable experiences this fall!

The locker room is an amenity available & WARNING SYSTEMS REWARD PROGRAM By measuring the amount of electrical for use by all CRC participants. The charge in the atmosphere, Thorguard Warning System predicts with a high degree of certainty the probability of a lightning strike within a covered area. This system warns guests and staff with a horn and strobe system when a lightning strike hazard is present. Areas served by Thorguard include Heritage Park, Family Aquatic Center, CRC and all adjacent areas and neighborhoods. The system is intended to warn guests and staff of probable lightning hazards in the area so lightning-related injuries and deaths can be avoided. Since Thorguard is a lightning prediction system, it is possible for the warning system to be activated even when weather conditions do not seem to indicate lightning is present. Be assured that these warnings are accurate and must be followed to ensure personal safety. Two distinct signals sent out by Thorguard: RED ALERT External warning horns blare for 15 seconds and strobe lights begin to blink. This signifies a lightning hazard in the area. All outdoor recreation activity should be suspended and guests and staff should seek appropriate shelter, preferably indoors. ALL CLEAR External warning horns give three consecutive blasts lasting 3-5 seconds each. This means the lightning hazard has left the area and it is safe to resume
normal activities. Chevy Chase is protected under the WeatherBug lightning detection system.

VANDALISM
The Wheeling Park District has experienced a tremendous amount of vandalism. This vandalism in our community has included acts of arson, destruction of playground equipment and landscaping materials, destruction of bathroom fixtures, stolen materials and graffiti. Vandalism affects residents and other guests when bathrooms are closed, playground equipment is under repair and amenities are not available for use. Vandalism is costly to repair and results in higher insurance costs. In order to ensure the safest parks and facilities possible, we need your help. We ask that when you see or hear about vandalism or something that may be unsafe, such as broken playground equipment, or anything else that you feel may be hazardous, please call 847-465-3333 or complete the online Report a Problem form under Quick Links at the bottom of the Home page on our website.
