Children spend much of the school

year inside, mostly sitting; our summer camp provides a wonderful opportunity to move. Running, swimming, jumping, climbing,

9 Develop confidence CAMP IS ACTION-PACKED!

Without the academic,

athletic and social competition of school life, children are free to engage in non-competitive activities and diverse opportunities that boost self-confidence and self-esteem. The everyday successes at Summer Camp show kids that they can REACH THEIR GOALS.

8 Gain resiliency

The kind of encouragement and

If you’ve been to camp, you’re not surprised to hear about the benefits. Experiencing camp as a child has profound, positive effects that still matter to you as an adult and you want the same thing for your own kids. If you didn’t go to camp as a child, you may not realize just how great the experience is for children and why so many parents are committed to sending their kids to camp at the Wheeling Park District. The Wheeling Park District has a long history of offering memorable experiences for kids in Summer Camp. Our experienced staff and outstanding facilities are the best in the area. Look through the pages of this brochure to find all the flexibility and well-rounded choices we have to offer your child. If you need assistance choosing which camp is best for your youngster, please do not hesitate to contact me. MICHELLE KEARNS, Recreation Services Manager mkearns@wheelingparkdistrict.com

nurturing kids receive at our camps make it a great environment to endure setbacks and try new things. Improvement comes when you GIVE SOMETHING ANOTHER TRY.

7 Unplug from technology

When kids

take a break from TV, cell phones and the Internet, they rediscover their creative powers and engage with real people. Real activities, real emotions, CAMP IS THE REAL DEAL.

6 Develop lifelong skills

Our camps

provide the right instruction, equipment and facilities to enhance athletic abilities, artistic talents and adventure skills. Camp makes it easy for kids to DISCOVER AND DEVELOP WHAT THEY LIKE TO DO.

5 Grow more independent

Making decisions

for themselves without parents and teachers guiding their every move gives children the freedom to blossom in new directions. Our safe, caring environment GIVES KIDS THE FREEDOM TO BE WHO THEY ARE.

Make time for play Without the structured, scheduled routines of home and school, children have time to be

carefree. Relax, laugh, be silly all day because AT CAMP WE PLAY!

3 Develop lifelong skills

Learn social

skills: Coming to camp means joining a close-knit community where everyone must agree to cooperate and respect each other. By working together and communicating, CAMP BUILDS TEAMWORK.

2 Reconnect with the outdoors

Outdoor experiences enrich a child’s perception of the world. Camp
