Waking Up in Paris Overcoming Darkness in the City of Light A book review by Carolyn Laurie

”…I felt as though I had just been in a terrible accident, an emotional hitand-run, and was sent to Paris for soul rehabilitation. I was so lost inside, it was difficult to find my bearings. Being married for more than 30 years had forged a “married” identity in me. Not being married felt as though my arm had just been cut off. It was weird and disconcerting and created a deep ache in me that I just couldn’t soothe. Some essential part of me was now missing, and I was left with phantom-limb symptoms that haunted me all the time.”

“It felt comforting to stock up on cleaning items. I’ve always needed to work from a solid foundation, and since I presently had no foundation whatsoever, cleaning the apartment would at least allow me to get grounded and feel more relaxed in the Old Lady.”

“I had the freedom to be whomever I wanted to be. No one knew me or expected anything of me. It was only my ingrained expectations that were holding me back and shedding all these layers was my greatest need and challenge.”

“The battle between my head and heart sometimes got ugly. There were days when I genuinely believed I’d never be in love again. The quiet answer from the Universe was always, ‘Just fall in love with yourself, Sonia. It is time.”

Birth and Death Two Sides of the Same Coin By Rachel Hart, CPM

By Rachel Hart, CPM

Beauty From The Storm It’s easy to let the chaos And all the sadness in It’s easy to feel anger And let frustration win

Lift your head and look around See all that’s truly there You might just discover Hope and a Lighter fare

It’s easy to see the dark clouds And storms that block the Sun It’s easy to be downtrodden Though you haven’t yet begun

Even if there’s raindrops Take a gaze and see Dreariness can’t stop The growing mighty tree

These things are not illusions They are a part of life Where do you place your focus On the Joy or on the Strife

Roots take in nourishments From the darkness of the soil It knows that to develop There must be some toil

The difference is perception And where you tilt your head Looking down is easy It helps you see the dread

Now watch all the branches Gain strength and grow Sprouting leaves and beauty Such splendor they now show

There is beauty from the storm With its ever changing might As long as we remember Keep reaching towards the Light

How did you begin to move forward after 9/11?

Your newly released book, “The Light in 9/11”, which is very inspiring, shares much you’ve grown and that you are constantly evolving - where do you see yourself going, what else do you expect to accomplish?

that very interesting because a people are waiting longer to have children, a generation is extending to full generation for the United States to fully heal from the events of 9/11?

resonate with you?

In looking at the body/mind/spirit The United States has dealt with the body, (establishing its identity as a country) and the mind (establishing its universities and education), now it switched to the emotional which then leads to the spiritual, thus it’s forcing of the main reasons why it happened, with the US, but the greater divine meaning behind this was to get the US to that point, to prepare it to grow into

THE COSMIC 2X4 By Trevor Wilkinson What is the cosmic 2x4?... First of all, allow me to explain the 2x4. That’s a standard size of wood beam available in most hardware stores in North America. The cosmic 2x4 is the colloquial wooden beam that the universe bops you on the head with when it wants you to pay attention. The cosmic 2x4 hit me in 2011. It had been quite some time in the making–since 1983, in fact. That’s when Cheryl and I met. I was standing in the high school lunch line when a friend of mine tapped me on the shoulder and introduced me to Cheryl. I was instantly smitten with this stunning goddess. I followed Cheryl around school hoping that at my tender, yet hormone fueled, age of 15, Cheryl would be my girlfriend. She was 16 at the time so that was of course a no hoper. In spite of my efforts, we did become “just” friends. At the end of the school year Cheryl took me to the prom. Soon thereafter, summer vacation started. Then Life happened. Cheryl’s family suddenly split up and she was gone, sent back to her home in Hartford. We wrote a letter or two and lost contact. That’s how things go when you’re 16ish…

Years passed by and with frequent visits to our family vacation home in United States, we often overflew Hartford. I always wondered what had become of Cheryl. Was she OK? Was she happy? What had become of the girl that had captured my heart? As these things go, I went to college, grew up, and eventually, in 1992, met my first wife, Mona. She and I had been an office romance that became a long distance relationship. In an effort to prove the pundits wrong and to end our loneliness and longings, we were married in 1995. From our union came two children, Ron and Lori. We had a comfortable and good life, but somewhere along the line, I began feeling lonely. By 2005 or so, I started to realize that Mona and I would not last. The relationship looked good from the outside – but inside it was pretty much a hollow shell. Then one October day in 2007, Mona came home and excitedly started began to tell me about this new “social thing” on the web–Facebook–and how it allowed you to reconnect with old friends, join groups and create networks. I signed up and found some old school friends.
