LAKESIDE GUIDE
In the late 1800s, Samson Beaver, an Îyârhe Nakoda guide, drew a map for Mary Schäffer to find Chaba Imne. Using his map, Schäffer not only found the lake, but she surveyed it and named many of the surrounding peaks. This popular place is known today as Maligne Lake (p 91). The guide’s name lives on in the Samson Mall (left) and Samson Native Gallery
