Dalí Museum St. Petersburg’s greatest cultural landmarks, the design of the Dalí Museum is just as important as what’s contained inside. Here, a simple, rectangular structure with 18-inch thick hurricane-proof walls bursts forth from the “enigma,” a geodesic glass bubble made of 1,062 triangular pieces of glass. Inside, the helical staircase conjures the artist’s obsession with spirals, and the DNA molecule; it leads to the mind-bending exhibits. The avante garden is a must for selfies.

ports aficionados in the Tampa Bay area will have plenty to choose from this spring. One of the main attractions, of course, is baseball, with spring training running to the last week in March. Options range from the New York Yankees, who call Tampa’s George M. Steinbrenner Field home, to the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater (19 miles west) at Spectrum Field and the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin (another six miles to the coast) at Dunedin Stadium.

The hometown Tampa Bay Rays return from Port Charlotte, which has been their spring training home for more than 10 years. They begin the 2019 campaign with a four-game set (March 28-31) against the Houston Astros. Giveaways during the first series include a schedule magnet, a Blake Snell bobblehead and a Kevin Kiermaier replica jersey (14 and under). It doesn’t take long for the Rays to test their mettle against A.L. East foes with the Baltimore Orioles (who also train in sunny Florida, to the south in Sarasota) in town April 19-21, followed by a three-game battle (April 22-24) against the reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox. The Yankees come for three days, May 10-12. Tropical shirts are for all fans (while supplies last) May 11 while kids 14 and under get snapback hats May 12. Facing more stiff competition in the early going, the World Series runners-up Los Angeles Dodgers make the trip east May 21-22. Looking for something to do for July Fourth? The Rays square off against the Yankees (July 4-7), finishing a 10-game homestand, which starts June 28 against the Texas Rangers. Tropicana Field will buzz with excitement as the Rays, who finished with a 90-72 record a year ago, return key members of the squad including 2018 Cy Young Awardwinner Snell (21-5; 1.89 ERA; 221 strikeouts). Other players to watch include second baseman Joey Wendle who batted .300 with 146 hits and outfielder Tommy Pham, who came to the Rays in a deal July 31, batting .343 in 39 games, finishing the season with 21 home runs. When visiting Tropicana Field, don’t forget to interact with the Rays’ aquatic namesake in the Rays Touch Experience, where you can interact with majestic cownose and southern stingrays in a 35-foot, 10,000-gallon tank located in Center Field at Gate 1. The tank is the first of its kind in a pro sports venue and can accommodate 45 people at a time. Arrive early, as the experience closes two hours after the first pitch. Or, see the tank as part of the Tropicana Field tour (10:30 am and 1 pm on select days) that also gives you access to the dugout, press box and more.

[WHERE INSIDE]
Tampa Bay Your Way UNIQUE TRAVEL RECOMMENDATIONS, FIT TO MATCH YOUR PERSONAL STYLE.
Aquariums
Cycling
Golf
Surrounded by water, there’s no better place to enjoy aquatic life than the Tampa area. The (1) Florida Aquarium offers interactive opportunities such as dives with sharks and penguins, a backstage pass and dolphin tours. At the nonprofit (2) Clearwater Marine Aquarium, you’ll find river otters, sea turtles and dolphins, including its most famous resident, Winter, from the “Dolphin Tale” movies. To view manatees up close, head to (3) ZooTampa, where the zoo’s veterinary team rehabilitates injured and orphaned creatures for return to the wild.
Tampa and the surrounding area is a cycling lover’s dream. Hop on more than 100 miles of bike lanes, or choose a specific route, such as the (1) Cass Street Corridor, which connects northern downtown with Ybor City via a sheltered two-lane course, and keeps bikes separated from car traffic. For a scenic route, the (2) Tampa Riverwalk offers nearly two and a half miles that run along Hillsborough River and Garrison Channel. Or opt for (3) Tampa Bay Water Bikes, pedal-powered pontoon cycles that let you explore the area via waterways.
Tee off year around at more than 100 courses scattered throughout the area. The 18-hole championship course at (1) TPC Tampa Bay was designed by Bobby Weed and Chi Chi Rodriguez and is routed around natural wetlands, cypress heads, ponds and lagoons. A popular public layout, (2) East Bay Golf Club has well-bunkered, elevated greens with water coming into play on 14 holes. Perfect your swing at (3) Topgolf, which offers 100-plus climate-controlled bays for hitting, full-service restaurants and a rooftop terrace, complete with firepit.
