This piano, the 100,000th made by Steinway, was presented by Steinway and Sons to President Roosevelt in January 1903. Tudor Place: Americaí s Story Lives Here
by James Tertius deKay, Michael Fazio, Osborne Mackie, and Katherine Malone≠ France
Edited by Leslie Buhler
Official White House China: From the 18th to the 21st Centuries by William G. Allman
A celebrity for his heroics in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, Commodore Stephen Decatur built a home ìfi t for fi ne entertainingî in 1818. This volume chronicles the history of the house in four partsó a biography of Stephen Decatur and his naval accom≠ plishments; an architectural history; a study of the fi ne and decorative arts collection; and an essay on the evolution of the house from private home to his≠ toric site. Osborne Mackie will be available to sign books.
Two grand houses were under construction in the young Federal City in 1816: one the Presidentí s House, undergoing reconstruction after it was burned by the British in 1814, and the other Tudor Place, an elegant mansion rising on the heights above Georgetown. This lavishly illustrated book, the fi rst defi nitive history of the house and its collection, explores its rooms, gardens, archival collections, and rare artifacts.
For the presidents, a basic component of offi cial entertaining has always been the dinner table. This book features more than two centuries of the elegant china used for offi cial White House entertaining and private dining that survives as a touchstone of the American presidency. As this book conveys, assembled together, the presiden≠ tial china in the White House comprises a muse≠ um collection of unequaled historic signifi cance.

To Live on Lafayette Square Society and Politics in the Presidentí s Neighborhood
by Jonathan Pliska
by William Seale
A Garden for the President explores not only the relationship between the White House and its landscape but also the evolution of its design; the public and private uses of the grounds in peace and wartime; and the cultivation of the grounds with a focus on the specimen trees, vegetable and orna≠ mental gardens, and conservatories.
Lafayette Square, just across Pennsylvania Ave≠ nue from the White House, was once the most fashionable neighborhood in Washington. His≠ torian William Seale re≠ creates what it felt like to live across from the White House and the ways in which political leaders and their fami≠ lies were in daily communication. The authorí s son Will Seale III, narrator of the audiobook, will be available to discuss this title.

ART IN THE WHITE HOUSE by William Kloss The collection of fi ne art at the White House belongs to the nation but, like the house itself, serves a domestic, even personal, purpose, for each fi rst family. It was not until the Kennedy administration that the collection was formally and permanently established. Since that time it has grown under the guidance of a professional curatorial staff and it now includes more than 500 works of chiefl y American art.

The White House neighborhood is one of the most historic neighborhoods in the nation. Vigorous life has gone on here for two cen≠ turies, warmed by the proximity to the great power represented in the White House. This title presents a contemporary view of the city through nearly 200 never before published photographs captioned with the words of American presidents and fi rst ladies.
This exhibition catalog features Peter Waddellí s twenty≠ fi rst century paintings of White House events that were not drawn, painted or photo≠ graphed defi nitively in their own times.Included are the building of the Presidentí s House, Jefferson in his study and more!

A Garden For the President A History of the White House Grounds
by Abby Clouse≠Rad igan Completed in 1800 in the new City of Washington, the White House, like its Euro≠ pean predecessors, would be a home, an offi ce where state business was conducted, and the setting for offi cial functions, ceremonies, receptions, and entertainments. The White House is an unusual hybridó but is it unique? That question in≠ spired this book, which begins to put the White House in a global perspective by surveying the offi cial resi≠ dences and offi ces of some fi fty nations, with a look at their histories, their spaces, and their functions.
