Totally Kyle Facebook users need manners
W
e are all guilty of it. The second I get home, I log on. I scroll down to the bottom of the page, check my notifications and attempt to think of a creative status. As popular as it may be, some choose to abuse Facebook’s power of instant communication gratification. The next time you log on, you might want Kyle Keith to consider some of these rules of social networking, as it might make you and your friends happier. (If you happen to be my friend, it would make me immensely happier.) Rule One: Group etiquette. Avoid joining or creating groups with titles spelled like the following: W3sT hIgH SeN10rZ, I <3 HSM2 or Impeach Obama. Groups such as these are entirely immature and ridiculous. Also, when conversing with other users on Facebook groups (particularly those related to school topics) avoid excessive profanity or “cyberfighting” with other users since that also makes you look immature. Rule Two: The Minifeed and you. Think before you submit because once you do, everyone can see it. A pet peeve of mine is when you make a spelling error like: “Kyle Keith is righting a column for newspaper.” First, recognize the mistake, correct it, “Kyle Keith is writing a column for newspaper,” and then delete the old one. Nothing annoys me more than seeing 6,000 statuses from the same person about the same subject. You can press delete, or I will press hide. I will, don’t think I won’t. Rule Three: Annoying useless applications. Farmville, Mafia Wars and YoVille all have one thing in common: they all are clear indicators of the fact that you spend way too much time on Facebook. Online games are found on online gamesites, not my minifeed. I could go on for ages about Facebook etiquette. But hopefully these three rules will help you be a better user and a better friend to others when you are online.
Area movie theaters provide different experiences Regal Biltmore Grande
Epic Theaters

t’s common for high school couples to go out on a date on Friday night to see a movie. However, ticket prices have skyrocketed to $9 and beyond. When you could get a three-course dinner for two at Applebee’s for $20, or spend the same on a night at the movies for two, the obvious choice might be going out to eat. Epic Theaters, although popular among teenagers and generally crowded, is very pricey for a night out. The $8.75 tickets can also be purchased online at an extra $1 convenience charge. These high prices discourage the urge to eat candy and buy a large drink. A medium popcorn alone is $5.25.
Location: 200 Thompson St., Hendersonville Phone: 828-693-1146 Ticket Prices: $8.75, $6.75 matinee Pros: Multiple show times, multiple screening rooms Cons: Expensive concession and ticket prices
Location: 292 Thetford St., Asheville Phone: 828-684-4726 Ticket Prices: $9.50, $7 matinee Pros: Multiple show times, large showing rooms Cons: Parking, high ticket prices f your schedule is tight and you need flexibility and variety, then Regal Biltmore Grande in Biltmore Village is the place to go to view a new release movie. When long-anticipated movies debut, Regal Grande offers a wide variety of show times. All 15 showing rooms are equipped with stadium seating, guaranteeing the movie experience will be worth the $9.50 (or $7 matinee price) ticket. Parking is limited to the parking garage located around the corner from the theater. During the day it’s not so bad to park away from the theater and walk, but at night, it can be a little
I scary. There have been reports of stolen vehicles from the parking garage. Although it sounds like Regal has a problem with security, there are security guards patrolling the lobby. They are there to make sure that no one jumps from screening room to screening room. As you pass through the ropes of the lobby, movie goers are stunned by the high ceiling. The dim lighting also gives it the dating atmosphere that most couples enjoy. Along with the big signs
that can be read easily from a distance, the long counters of the concession area are there to help customers quickly receive their popcorn and drinks. Regal Biltmore Grande is the place to go if you have cash to burn and a tight schedule. The cinema is big enough to fit everyone you know into one showing room and no one will have to strain his or her neck to see. Regal Biltmore Grande has the accommodations to suit just about everyone. By Kim Randall
er armrests and digital surround sound, making the theaters very comfortable. However, the floors are littered with candy and popcorn from previous movie-goers, giving the screening rooms an unsanitary atmosphere. Epic also freatures a new 3D auditorium, with tickets costing slightly more than other films. Despite the high prices and crowds, moviegoers will generally enjoy their experience at Epic Theater in Hendersonville. By Whitney Howell
The Carolina offers mainstream movies as soon as they are released as well as lesser known films. The Carolina also has some auditoriums where rows of seats have been replaced with sofas and love seats. The lobby of the theater has been reconstructed in a very upscale fashion. It has an urban atmosphere with art throughout the theater. Although the lobby is very impressive, the screening rooms are dull and lackluster. They are also rather small.
The Carolina should be a great place for teenagers to have their regular movie night. It is a great replacement for Regal or Epic. The theater, however, does not offer movies in 3D. It is surprising how few people know that the old Hollywood Cinema has been transformed into a virtually new theater. With the new urban feel and the good location, it is worthy of being a new favorite for teens more interested in price than massive screens and stadium seats. By Ashley Heywood

lat Rock Cinema is a 22-minute drive from the West campus. Although it is more of a drive than Epic, it offers a unique small-town movie-going experience. The owners offer meals that movie-goers can enjoy at tables while you watch a movie. Options include a variety of entrees, including baked quesadillas and veggie Italian sausage dogs. At $5, Flat Rock Cinema is an entertainment deal. However, the theater has just one screen and does not feature the newest releases. The theater offers one movie at a time, and the same movie usually stays for about a week. Concessions are inexpensive with a large
As you walk into the lobby, the atmosphere is filled with the smell of popcorn and covered by upcoming movie posters and life-sized movie figures. There is also a game room located next to the decorated doors of the entrance. The lighting inside of Epic is not very bright until you step inside a restroom. The mood created is calming and very relaxed, appealing to couples out on a date. The theaters feature stadium seating, cup hold-
popcorn at $4, but the container is small compared to the sizes at the mega-theaters. The other food Flat Rock Cinema offers never exceeds $10. This is quite a change from the pricey concessions at Epic or Regal. The atmosphere of the cinema is very laid back and inviting. It has a similar mood to movie night at a friend’s house. The one and only screening room is a substantial amount smaller than the auditoriums of Epic or the Regal. It can hold at most 50 people.
The seats are comfortable rolling chairs seated around small tables. You are given your food on plastic trays and paper plates. The quality of the film is just like the big time theaters. The food is acceptable and is made to order inside Flat Rock Cinema. Though unique and inexpensive, Flat Rock Cinema may not be the best choice for teenagers. It is better suited for an older audience since beer and other alcoholic drinks are available. By Ashley Heywood

ith the recent opening of the Regal Biltmore Grande 15 and the remodeling of the Hollywood Cinemas about 11 miles away from campus, the two theaters have been competing. The Hollywood Cinema has changed names to become The Carolina Asheville, and the new look is aimed at appealing movie-goers of all ages. The theater offers movies at a very reasonable price compared to the other theaters nearby. The price of an adult ticket at the Carolina is $6.50, compared to $9.50 at Biltmore Grande.
