Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 17, 1942. He got his name Muhammad Ali after entering the Nation of Islam. It was 1964 that Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was publicly announced by the Nation of Islam as Muhammad Ali. The Nation of Islam was widely viewed by whites and even some African Americans as a black separatist “hate religion” with a propensity toward violence. Ali had few qualms about using his influential voice to speak Nation of Islam doctrine.
Ali made his professional debut on October 29, 1960, winning a six-round decision over Tunney Hunsaker and continued to make wonders in the world of boxing, making him one of the brightest stars in the sport. Ali fought for the last time on December 11, 1981 and lost in a ten round decision. He already had signs of being sick and clearly not his old self in the ring. His contribution to the sport of boxing was worldwide, boxing fans wanted to be like him, “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”. He was a legend that every boxing enthusiast will never forget. Sadly, we cannot prevent what would happen to him. On December 20, 2014, Ali was hospitalized for a mild case of pneumonia. Ali was once again hospitalized on January 15, 2015, for a urinary tract infection after being found unresponsive at a guest house in Scottsdale, Arizona, but he was released the next day. Ali was hospitalized in Scottsdale on June 2, 2016, with a respiratory illness. Though his condition was initially described as “fair”, his condition worsened and he died the following day at age 74 from septic shock. Septic shock is a life-threatening condition that happens when your blood pressure drops to a dangerously low level after an infection. The illness that Muhammad Ali had could strike anyone, even regular people, regular employees that work hard for their family. Just like Ali that works hard for the sport of boxing, we at work, on our jobs also work hard likewise as Muhammad Ali does. But what
