MISS OAK HARBOR 2017 The MOH program is like no other. I never thought I would be so humbled and influenced by such hardworking women who believe so strongly in the potential of the young ladies of Oak Harbor. This experience has shown me that believing in a dream and pursuing it can produce outstanding and rewarding results. My favorite part of the entire experience was becoming a role model for the younger girls who participated in the Miss Pioneer Way Pageant in July. I believe a big takeaway from this program is the positive results that come from putting yourself out there, being a bit uncomfortable, and taking advantage of a program like this. Congratulations to all of this year’s contestants! You ladies have already won so much in just making it through these past couple of months. Good luck and celebrate!!

Jacklyn Curtis

FIRST PRINCESS First of all, I would like to thank the entire Pageant Wyse Board for giving me the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself. Participating back to back in the Miss Oak Harbor Pageant will truly always have a major impact on my life. I learned how to connect with businesses, formed a deeper connection within my community, and most importantly, left a positive mark on young women. This program is so much more than a “beauty pageant.” It takes hard work and dedication. To this year’s contestants, I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you leave with a deeper understanding of what it’s like to be a strong, beautiful, and intelligent individual. River, Jes, and Mollie, I will forever cherish you all as some of my greatest life mentors. Farewell.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald

SECOND PRINCESS Participating in the Miss Oak Harbor Scholarship Pageant has been an incredible privilege for me. Together with the other contestants, I learned and grew immensely through the training we received, friendships we built with each other, and experiences we shared together. One of the highlights of my pageant experience was being part of a supportive community of young women who encouraged one another throughout the course of the pageant. I am so grateful for the past year of growth

and community service I experienced through my participation in the pageant. The pageant offered me opportunities to meet many community leaders of Oak Harbor, and through these, I got a valuable glimpse into the team of people who make our town so great. In addition, as a member of the 2017 Royal Court, I was so honored to participate in raising funds to support the Pregnancy Care Clinic here on Whidbey Island. I wish the very best to the 2018 contestants!

Aly McLeod

TEEN MISS OAK HARBOR 2017 What a year! I am reminded of all the amazing service opportunities I have had, the learning experiences, and the beautiful royalty who stood alongside me! Going into the Miss Oak Harbor Scholarship Pageant, I was uncertain of the whole thing, as many are, because of the way it challenged me and stretched me in new places; just like how a new workout makes us more sore than usual. However, I quickly discovered it was so worth it! As Teen Miss Oak Harbor, I was able to be a role model and beacon of courage, strength, and joy as I served young girls wanting to step into pageantry, congratulated marathon finishers with medals, served meals to our town’s heroes and veterans, and, of course, waved to the wonderful people of my town in several parades. Farewell and blessings to the new Teen Miss Oak Harbor as she begins a reign she’s sure to remember the rest of her life.

Autumn Coker

TEEN FIRST PRINCESS Participation in the Miss Oak Harbor pageant has helped me to be more involved in the community and experience completely new things. My favorite part of the pageant was the time I got to spend with so many different girls and women and seeing the dedication they had to the program, their success, and Oak Harbor. During the pageant, I learned to branch out more and to manage my time in a more efficient manner. I found it to be such a great experience that I am competing this year in the pageant again! I would like to wish all of my fellow contestants good luck, and I hope they all are able to make the most out of this great opportunity!

Gracie Hiteshew

TEEN SECOND PRINCESS Being a part of the Miss Oak Harbor Scholarship Pageant has been an incredibly worthwhile experience. I have learned so much, not only from the Pageant Wyse Board of Directors but also from each and every girl who participated with me. My reign opened up so many doors and opportunities ranging from the very cold St. Patrick’s Day Meet & Greet in March to National Night Out in August, and so many more enriching events. I could not put into words how much gratitude I have for the Oak Harbor community and all its support throughout pageant season and my reign. Best of luck to the contestants of the 2018 season!

Scoring

Miss Oak Harbor 2018 ~ 13

MOH SCORING 101 The Miss Oak Harbor Scholarship Pageant scoring system is the most comprehensive and objective model that one is ever likely to find. It incorporates twelve categories, all weighted equally, and is designed to honor the whole person. All contestants participate in the same 6-week program and are scored using identical models. 9th- and 10th-graders compete for the title of Teen Miss Oak Harbor, while 11th- and 12th-graders compete for the title of Miss Oak Harbor. Pre-pageant points, which account for 75% of the overall score, were earned in Academics, Attendance, Board of Directors, Extracurricular Activities, Marketing, Personal Interview, Physical Fitness, Service, and Work. Pageantnight points—25% of the overall score—are awarded in Speech/Talent, Stage Presence, and Formal Wear. Contestants are ranked in each category, based on the number of points they earned. Added together, these ranks determine overall position in the pageant. Like cross country or golf, the lower the rank total, the higher the overall placement at the end of Pageant Night.

History

What you see on stage tonight is a culmination of meetings, brainstorming, and an intense commitment to develop a truly unique opportunity that began in November 2014 when Jes and River started working on the first Miss Oak Harbor Scholarship Pageant. Over 6:30am Saturday coffee meetings and late-night email exchanges, they worked tirelessly to present the first pageant in May 2015. They had to beg and cajole for those first
