If you are a caregiver, you need to stay physically and emotionally healthy, and to do that you need time and space from your role as caregiver. THE
Write Stuff Contributions by the Oak Harbor Senior Centers Creative Writing class
A GOD DAMNED AGE Christine Crowell, age 65
I I I I
He’s visiting again, the uninvited thief. Who, the white coat asks. Who is visiting?
What can I do? I’m not magic. I can only treat what’s truly tragic.
Why, Arthur. Arthur who? Arthur Osteo. He comes at night and breaks my sleep.
I don’t make house calls I don’t screen guests I cannot help with your visiting pests.
Yes, but at your age. What age? What age invites that creeping scrape of knee bone grind and spinal brake?
cannot cannot cannot cannot
sleep, play, stand, lay.
So, Arthur comes and stays too long. He rakes my bones and fries my song. But I’m of an age, A God damned age!
The knee’s just half and not so bad. It could worse, it could be all. If half my home falls, Should I wait to call? Does the fireman pause Until it’s all?
ISLAND THRIFT

is a major contribution that helps keep the Senior Center open and available to the public. Not only does Island Thrift contribute to the Center monetarily but In 2001 Island Thrift donated the modular building to be used for the Day Break adult day services program. It was used for that purpose until a few years ago when the program was suspended. Since then the Senior Center has utilized the space for a variety of programs such as quilting, clogging, Caregiver Training classes and much more. Great news though! In April of 2017, the building will again house an adult day program; “Time Together”. Island Thrift provides monthly financial assistance to over a dozen local non-profit organizations. They have also been significant supporters for many local events, including the Oak Harbor Music Festival, Pig Roast and relocating the PBY aircraft to its current location. Last year Island Thrift provided almost $500,000 in funding. All funds are generated through sales of items in the Island Thrift store. Next time you decide to do some spring cleaning or want to do a bit of affordable shopping, keep Island Thrift in mind! Donating and shopping at Island Thrift is more than just convenient, it is a fun way to support the Senior Center! Members are encouraged to donate items at the store. 600 SE Barrington Dr, Oak Harbor, Hours: 9AM–5:30PM
