Interview: Photographer Beth Mitchell When did your love of photography first blossom? A deep curiosity for still camera creativity came to life for me in the preteen years What is it about fine art fashion photography that you feel most drawn to and why? I love fairy tales and magical visual stories, and a huge aspect is “what is she wearing?. For me it is part of the overall vision and coming under this lovely genre covers the aesthetic of my work generally, which is a collision of conceptual fine art photography and fashion elements. We understand that you have collaborated with Begitta many times before for your beautiful photographic projects. What inspires you the most about Begitta's work? The first time I collaborated with Begitta was for one of my underwater collections (which is the medium I predominantly work with) and that came about because her gowns were so dreamy, I thought

they would be fabulous underwater. From there it continued, we were meant to be as our styles compliment each other so well. We adore this gorgeous series that you photographed featuring Begitta's new collection. Please tell us more about the experience you had planning and capturing these photos? We wanted to do something fun and extravagant. When Begitta has a new collection we come up with something we are dying to create! We have done beds in forests, doves, smoke machines and now this new collection works with many different elements all in the one editorial which is both darker but still having that feminine bold colour we always seem to involve. This collection we worked a lot with props, especially in the abandoned living room and green house scenes but we also love to scatter some eye catching fashion portraits in there too. We were in love with upcoming model Daisy, her eyes are to die for. What advice would you offer to aspiring fine art fashion photographers?

Collaborate. Meet other creative people and make art with them. Find the ones which compliment your style and develop with them. Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography career in the not-too-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? At present I am working to launch my new Underwater series at the end of this month “Arafura” which features Begitta. I am doing an exhibition at a gallery here in Brisbane “Lethbridge” from July 29th. All my attention is on the exhibition side of things as this is where my heart belongs. I am hoping my career as a Photographic Fine Artist will continue to develop and I will showcase this unique approach to this genre around the world. Interview: Photographer Jade Jeffries When did your love of photography first blossom? I always had an imaginative and creatively driven mind growing up as a child, but never quite knew how to express it. There was something about photography that made me see the beauty in the world, it made me more visually aware, being able to capture those magical moments, that happen in a split second seemed very special to me. In high school, media was certainly one of those classes I looked forward to, I became fascinated by the film process, I even recall the scent of the chemicals in the dark room and seeing my very first developed image come to life. After school I started following fashion blogs, subscribed to fashion print and felt intrigued by the art scene, often visiting galleries and exhibitions. Shortly after, I purchased my first camera and embarked on a trip to Europe, snapping away at anything that slightly inspired me, such as the local culture and habits, light and shadows, historical architecture, interesting people, fashion, food and even the animals on the street. It was at that moment that I realised I wanted to study photography and completely immerse myself in it,

I discovered how much happiness photography brought to me and I’ve been inspired to explore the world of photography ever since, constantly setting new goals for myself. What inspires your creativity the most and why? I draw inspiration from a variety of things, I couldn’t possibly pin-point one thing. Nature is a big one for me, predominately shooting outdoors, I’m always looking for new, striking locations to base my shoots. Light also plays a big part as it can affect your images in such a powerful way, soft lighting can have a very calming/ diffused result and harsh lighting can create something rather dramatic and moody, weather and timing entirely impact this. I draw a great deal of inspiration from people, their general mannerisms and uniqueness and of course some of the greats such as Henri CartierBresson, Helmut Newton and Annie Leibovitz.

Please tell us about the experience you had planning and capturing this beautiful series?

There wasn’t a whole lot of planning that went into this series, it was quite easily executed. My stylist contacted me with a style she had in mind and we worked together along with the HMUA to build the final result. We wanted something feminine yet still quite natural and earthy. The clothing which was sourced from various labels, was all quite bohemian/ 70’s, so we really played with this vibe on the day. The location was a spot I had previously shot at, an abandoned farm with golden grass fields surrounding it. The lighting on the day was very diffused by the clouds, which made this series very easy to capture. We had a lot of fun on set, played some tunes and I guided the model to create movement in her posing, I had her walking and dancing freely for most of the shoot which gave me some very natural results. As the shoot was coming to an end, the sun was setting and we got some wonderful golden light up on the grassy hills, this is when I captured some of my favourite shots from the day. How would you describe an average day in your life? Well my days tend to vary day to day, but generally I rise early and listen to music from the moment I wake, coffee comes next of course, followed by a standard busy day at the office, evenings you will often find me cooking something for my

housemates or out and about at an art gallery, friend’s house, restaurant or event. I somehow manage to squeeze in shoot coordinating and post-processing time, it’s a juggling act but I thrive on versatility and being challenged. Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? I have a few things in the mix that I’m certainly excited about. There’s talk of a blog as well as continuing to submit to mags for exposure. I’d love to explore more experimental/conceptual work, on top of the fashion/ wedding photography route I’m currently on. I’ll continue working closely with my local modelling agency contacts and my creative team. I have established creatives who I work quite closely with and we’re always bouncing new ideas off each other. For me, it’s about team work and collaboration and getting to that end goal for everyone involved. It’s important to surround yourself with like-minded people. RECIPE:

Lemon and Poppy Seed Loaf

By Emma Lane

I think that lemons are one of the best flavours of summer- from chilled lemonade and cordials, to sauces and cakes. Lemon drizzle is probably my alltime favourite cake too! For this recipe, I've adapted a Victoria Sponge to incorporate the fresh lemon flavour, and the result is a lovely light cake for summer afternoons. It was the perfect way to use up a leftover lemon I had after I made elderflower cordial, and the recipe for that will be up soon as well. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one! INGREDIENTS: 100g/4oz margarine, 100g/4oz self raising flour, 100g/4oz caster sugar, 1 large beaten egg, 1 tbsp milk, Grated zest of a lemon, 1 tsp poppy seeds, lemon curd, a few drops of vanilla extract and lemon extract (optional but tasty!) METHOD: 1. Preheat the oven to 180C or 160C if fan assisted 2. Grease a loaf tin and line with baking parchment 3. Cream together the margarine and sugar, then add in the beaten egg a little at a time. Add vanilla, lemon extract and lemon zest. 4. Fold in the flour, mix until well combined then pour into the prepared tin 5. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and cooked all the way through. 6. Allow to cool on a wire rack. Slice in half, spread with lemon curd then sandwich together. Dust with icing sugar to finish, and add decorations if desired.

Summer Heart Photographer: Warisa Chawalitanon Facebook.com/WarisaChawalitanonPhotography Model: Emilia Baranaj

Interview: Photographer Warisa Chawalitanon When did your love of photography first blossom? I’ve always loved capturing the moment, even before I’d received my first DSLR from my dad. I began with landscape photography before moving towards portrait photography after finding several photographers that inspire me to do so such as Bryant Eslava. At first, it was just a hobby of mine before it slowly expanded when photography gave me the opportunity to meet new people. For someone who’s extremely shy like me, photography had taught me to step out of my comfort zone, and that’s when I know that my love for photography is growing. What inspires your creativity the most and why? Stories and lyrics. I think it’s also the fact that I enjoy listening to music in different languages, though I would have to look up the translation, it still gives me ideas and inspirations. The way I see it is that there is some truth behind each story and lyric, it is also up to me to interpret them and then translate them into photographs. I used to do this a lot when I first started out in photography,

putting some story behind a series of photos or use it as an inspiration for a conceptual photograph. Regarding portrait and fashion photography, I usually look at magazines for inspiration, although stories and lyrics still sometimes inspire some of my photo shoots. Please tell us about the experience you had planning and capturing this beautiful series? This shoot was by far one of the most challenging locations that the model and I had to work around. It was my first time working with Emilia (the model), and it was my first time exploring Vancouver as well since I moved here almost a year ago. It’s a very steep slope and a small field of flowers that’s in the middle of a park. It was challenging at first because of the limited space, but I was able to capture it so that it looks like a big field of flowers so I was quite happy with the outcome. Props to Emilia as well because it was boiling that day and the slope was very steep, but she managed to look flawless despite all the difficulties. How would you describe average day in your life?

an

A day that involves a lot of daydreaming. Like I previously mentioned, I love stories and lyrics, and that’s where I find most of my inspiration, so sometimes I would give myself some alone time where I can just sit down and read a book or just lay in bed listening to music. Sometimes I like to hop on the bus to downtown and use that time to listen to some music or to read. Or sometimes I would just take a walk by myself; I like to be alone for the most part because that’s when I feel like I can hear myself thinking the best. Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? I’ve moved to Vancouver to study for almost a year now. Although it's still quite hard for me to balance between academic work and photography, I’ve already met so many photographers and friends in such a short period through photography. It’s likely that I’ll be having some more photo shoots coming up! I’ve already made some friends in Vancouver through photography, and it’s likely that I will be doing a lot more collaborative work with others.

Reverie Photography: Katie Borrazzo www.katieborrazzo.com Model: Lee Phillips: @c.har.lee

Interview: Photographer Katie Borrazzo When did your love of photography first blossom? I spent a semester at the New York Film Academy a few years ago before starting college; however, at that time, I was not quite sure what I hoped to get out of photography or how I planned to incorporate it into my life. Nevertheless, I kept shooting, and within the last year or so have I realized that fashion editorial work is what truly interests and inspires me. What inspires your creativity the most and why? I often joke that photography is my only hobby – a statement not far from the truth. Whenever I see interesting architecture, beautiful scenery or flowers, or someone I think could be a great model, I begin envisioning a shoot to incorporate such elements. When I see how other photographers have captured fashion in the past, it inspires and pushes me to come up with a different way of presenting it. In photography, nothing is limited to what it appears to be at first glance. Likewise, I love the freedom which the medium affords in portraying people, scenery, and so forth. My

goal is to create images that are original, connecting memories and ideas to make photos to which viewers can truly connect. The goal of creating something both meaningful and aesthetically pleasing has always driven my work. Please tell us about the experience you had planning and capturing this beautiful series? For this series, I worked collaboratively on the fashion and styling with the model, Lee. That day, I happened to be shooting her headshots, and it was such a lovely sunny day in May that we decided to continue shooting. Lee’s ability to use her surroundings inventively – combining poses and expressions with scenery in order to immerse the viewer within a particular aesthetic – is exceptional. In this shoot, I wanted to capture a sense of vulnerability, nostalgia, and wistfulness, inspired by the tendency to reminisce that often accompanies the changing of the seasons and the end of another school year. How would you describe average day in your life?

an

I am a student studying psychology, but I find as many ways as possible to work photography into my everyday life. While my true passion is fashion photography, I also do quite a bit of photojournalism. I try to shoot my personal work on weekends, searching for inspiration throughout the week from both real life and sifting (a bit obsessively) through fashion blogs and websites. Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the not-too-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us?

When I return to school this fall, I plan to continue shooting fashion work, taking advantage of the lovely autumn weather and colors in Boston, M.A. I plan to seek out more opportunities to shoot with models and team up with stylists and clothing companies. It might be a bit difficult to balance with coursework and other extracurriculars and time commitments, but I believe it will be well worth it! Satya Photography: Alison Su alisonsuphotography.com HMUA: Megan Cary megancaryartistry.com Model: Satya G. with LA Models and Donna Baldwin Agency Clothing/Styling: Meraki Moon shopmerakimoon.com

Interview: Photographer Alison Su When did your love of photography first blossom? At the age of 13 years old, I fell in love with the art of photography. I would photograph everything - from the flowers in my backyard to my mother’s fine china. I remember coming home everyday to take photos in my room, or what I liked to call my own photo studio. Ever since then, my passion for photography has even grown stronger throughout the years. What inspires your creativity the most and why? I live in Colorado, so I am constantly surrounded by nature, and something that never gets old is that moment before a sunset. What drives my creativity are the warm, sun-drenched colors before sunset that casts my surroundings in a magical, orange glow. In those moments, I put any troubles of the day behind me and move forward. The stillness that lingers after the sun sets is a moment for me to reflect and appreciate. Please tell us about the experience you had planning and capturing this beautiful series?

I had the amazing opportunity to work with Megan Cary Artistry, Satya G. of LA Models and Donna Baldwin, and Meraki Moon who helped make my vision for this shoot possible! With Coachella around that time, I knew I wanted to capture something in the spirit of summer and music festivals. Meraki Moon was able to provide clothing that fit the whole theme of the shoot: everything from fringe vests to two-piece maxi dresses. Megan Cary did an incredible job creating two different looks for the shoot by working with the natural texture of the model’s hair and adding a pop of color for the last look. Working with these talented individuals truly made this series come alive! How would you describe average day in your life?

an

As a full-time student, an average day in my life is pretty uninteresting. On the weekends and breaks is when I get the chance to take the time for myself to take pictures. Throughout the week, I’m constantly scouting out inspiration from my favorite fashion/life style blogs and Instagram.

Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? I will be attending college this upcoming fall, so I am excited to explore all the opportunities in a new city. I plan on working with my school’s fashion magazine and collaborating with the talented artists in the community. As of right now, I am going to continue networking with aspiring artists and brands in Denver and take advantage of every moment I have before I start my next chapter! Azure is a Warm Color Photographer: Lucia Fatima (www.lucia-fatima.com) Stylist: Lima Guggiari (www.urbindi-style.com) Model: Azura Location: Casa Borgo, Locarno (www.casaborgo.ch)

Interview: Photographer Lucia Fatima When did your love of photography first blossom?

My love for photography started when I was in junior school, when I discovered Deviant Art. I always used to do something artistic (like drawing, acting, playing music, etc) but it was only with the photography that I found the right artistic medium for me. As said, I started because I used to look at amazing pictures on Deviant Art and the internet and I felt really alive and inspired. I told myself: I want to create these kinds of images that give people lovely feelings, just like those pictures did to me. Since I started photography I never stopped and each time I take pictures my style changes with myself. It is very interesting. What inspires your creativity the most and why? It’s hard to answer, because I really don't know. Sometimes I just feel I want to start a project and I develop it in a very natural way. I get inspired by things I see around (colors, movies, sentences, places, photographs...) and from there I want to create something

myself...but most of the time there is not necessarily a starting point like this, is just comes naturally. Or maybe it is just unconscious... Please tell us about the experience you had planning and capturing this beautiful series? With my stylist Lima we wanted to make a very romantic photographic series, expressed by a soft pastel light, and a delicate location. We planned a room in an amazing B&B in Locarno (my hometown) and organized it with the most lovely girl ever. We had the outfits and we prepared the moodboard and the poses, but most of the shooting was inspired at the moment, in the room. Azura was really a great model and was very easy to work with. How would you describe average day in your life?

an

Not all my days are the same...So I’ll try to sum up as I can. When I am not on the set, I usually start working around 8:30 at home. Most of the time I start with answering emails, preparing invoices, contracts, accounting, etc.

It takes me 1 to 2 hours, depending on the amount of things I need to check. I spend the rest of the day mostly on post-production or photography related work (submitting editorials, working on moodboards, organizing shootings, etc). People think that a photographer's job is always outdoors taking pictures...this is like 20%-30% of my entire work...all the rest is in the office. I usually have 23 shootings a week (weddings, fashion editorials, catalogues, portrait, family etc). Lastly, what do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? I have invested a lot into photography in the past 6 years and I have the feeling I’ll start going where I want to go. I am already on a good path to achieve my dreams: I get many work requests, and most of them with people or brands I really like. I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else than that. I don't want to stop and I hope my career will carry on in this way :) Website: www.lucia-fatima.com FB: facebook.com/Lucia-Fatima-IFashion-Photographer168066246582197/ Instagram: @ lucia_fatima_storyteller

Interview: Photographer Rachel Salisbury When did your love photography first blossom?

of

It definitely started with a bad case of wanderlust! I first started taking pictures of my travels and found myself really inspired being behind the camera. I’ve only gotten serious about portraiture and model photography in the past few years. Now I see it as another adventure and a method of storytelling. What inspires your creativity the most? Everything and anything can inspire me! Books, art, travel, relationships. I’m also trying to appreciate and embrace my mistakes (these happen a lot). The more I photograph, the more I want to push myself to be better and more imaginative in my work! I also love the current work of Emily Soto and Brooke Shaden. They are creating these dreamy, beautiful images that I strive towards. I particularly appreciate art that has a distinct voice.

Please tell us more about the experience you had whilst planning and capturing this gorgeous series? FOR THE SET IN BRYCE CANYON PARK: It was a definite collaboration! I was on a southwest road trip visiting a number of national parks and 5 states in 2 weeks. It was a whirlwind trip, and so much fun! The model, Jade is local to Utah and helped choose the location. We created this series around Bryce Canyon National Park. For several shots, we climbed a cliff side and for others, we trekked around a river and waterfall. It was a totally magical experience. What does an average day in the life of Rachel look like? I have an awesome day job as a paediatric occupational therapist. After work, I might edit, plan shoots or play around with my camera. I’m constantly looking to improve! Having a day job allows me the freedom to focus on projects that are close to my heart.

Q: What do you hope to achieve with your photography in the nottoo-distant future; do you have any exciting, upcoming plans that you would like to share with us? A: I’m actually preparing now for a month in Sri Lanka so I’m hoping to make some good art there! Website: www.rachelsalisburyphotography.c om FB: facebook.com/RachelSalisburyPho tography/
