Lending Hearts Gala

March 16, 2023 marked the 11th annual Lending Hearts Gala presented by UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and Genentech. Lending Hearts is a local organization dedicated to bringing hope and strength to everyone impacted by cancer.

The event featured 2023 Lending Hearts Friend Award recipient and Pittsburgh Steeler, Cameron Heyward, who was honored for his impact through the Pittsburgh is Stronger Than Cancer initiative and the work of The Cameron Heyward House.

In his acceptance speech at the event, Heyward emphasized the importance of supporting patients and their families through their cancer journeys. “Dealing with cancer and understanding how it affects the patient but also understanding how it affects the family… and how everybody needs help in those moments…that is huge.”

Gala attendees also had a chance to hear from the Zambori family of Martins Ferry, Ohio who has benefitted from Lending Hearts. As Natalie Zambori shared, “...Lending Hearts helped our family get through some of the hardest times of our lives. Leo [our son] has been able to participate in awesome things with Lending Hearts. We’re forever grateful for those moments that helped him and helped all of us along the way.”

Lending Hearts is a non-profit organization based in the south hills of Pittsburgh, supporting cancer patients and their families through in-hospital and virtual programs, as well as social outings and entertainment experiences.
