The Run for the Black and Gold

May 20th at Acrisure Stadium

Last year’s Run was one of the biggest events on Pittsburgh’s social calendar. The mock horse racing event (think of the Kentucky Derby with a yinzer flair) features celebrity “jockeys,” including current and former Pittsburgh Steelers such as Cameron Heyward, R yan Shazier and Kenny Pickett.

It also features great food, music, a live auction and the chance to bet on the celebrity race (last year’s winners split a pot of more than $100,000). It’s the signature event for the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation.

The Fund is the brainchild of the former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker who saw first-hand just how life-altering a spinal cord injury is both for patients and their families who often serve as primary caregivers. Having been through that, Ryan vowed he would do what he could for people who didn’t have the resources and access to care that he received.

It’s the second year of the event. This year, the goal is to raise more than $700,000 to help families who desperately need the resources the Fund provides. Every dollar matters in raising money to provide additional rehab sessions, home modifications, mental health support and other services that help individuals with spinal cord injuries have more meaningful and more independent lives. So, break out your derby wear and fascinators and join the fun!
