Anoka County seeks feedback on trail options Anoka County is in the process of updating a plan that was drafted back in 1980 and is seeking public input regarding some options for a possible trail connection in Circle Pines. The county is in the beginning stages of developing some concepts for a missing segment of the Rice Creek North Regional Trail, a 10-foot wide, 8-mile paved trail that follows Rice Creek through the southeast
quadrant of the county. It provides a connection between Anoka and Ramsey counties and connects the cities of Blaine, Circle Pines and Lino Lakes. The trail also connects to the East Anoka County Regional Trail, Bunker Chain of Lakes Regional Trail and the Rice Creek Regional Trail system in Ramsey County. Currently, there is a gap in the trail system between Golden Lake Elementary School and Baldwin Park in Circle Pines. The county presented
some trail alignment options to the Circle Pines City Council Feb. 26 to gather feedback and possibly eliminate an option or two. The process is all a part of updating the trail's master plan, developed four decades ago. “I'm pretty sure it was actually typed up on a typewriter,” said Anoka County Parks Planner Karen Blaska. There were 235,177 uses of the trail recorded in 2018, making the Rice

within each individual. It is a program of ArtStart, founded in 1988, whose mission is to inspire artistic creativity and illuminate the connections among people, ideas and the environment through engaging artists, children, families and communities in quality arts education experiences. Because elementary schools in the Centennial School District do not have art classes, the experience is especially important. “We really want to provide an experience instead of a product,” Principal Christopher Gerst explained. “We recognize that there are some shortfalls in the district, and we are trying to add learning
Every year the Chain of Giving fundraiser rolls around, the Chain of Lakes Rotary's goal is always to make the event “bigger and better” than last year. “Our sponsorships are up, our ticket sales are doing really well, the prizes have upticked a ton, so we feel this will be a bigger and better event than last year,” said Centennial Schools Superintendent and Rotary member Brian Dietz. “This will be another great event that will raise a lot of money for our community and our kids.” This year's event is slated for 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Infinite Campus in Blaine. The event will feature casino games like blackjack and Texas hold’em and community games like basketball shot, bean bag toss, football toss, golf putting challenge and hockey shot. A new addition to this year's event will be a silent auction. More than 20 items will be auctioned, including tickets to sporting events and different activities. Like last year, the event has a sports theme and attendees are encouraged to wear their sports swag, whether that be Centennial gear or professional or college sports apparel. Tailgate-themed cuisine will feature items such as wings and brats, a nacho bar and dessert. The ninth annual event will raise funds for the district's Angel Fund as well as the YMCA. “The greater purpose of us doing this is that we recognize there's a lot of needs that exist around our five communities and there's an

CIRCLE PINES — Students at Golden Lake Elementary are working diligently to complete four large murals for the school's library. Since the beginning of February, Minneapolis artist Jeanette Papenfuss has spent about a week with each of the school’s grade levels to create four murals made of mosaic tiles. The murals will represent Minnesota's four biomes and seasons. “I can showcase what animals and plants live in these biomes during each season,” she explained. It is all a part of an artist-in-residence program, which focuses on unlocking the creative artist
