members, are invited to attend the dedication on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Executive Director Lefawn Kibble came up with the idea to have a Wall of Honor earlier this year as a way to honor their residents who served. “We thought it would be really cool, because we have so many veterans here,” Activity Director Ronda Taber explained. Taber began working on the project a few months ago when she sent out letters to residents’ families. She then began collecting photographs and

The Centennial School Board is now in the same boat as many other districts across the nation and state that have to fill a vacancy due to a resignation. School Board Director Stephanie Carlson, whose term was supposed to run CONTRIBUTED through 2024, Stephanie Carlson submitted her resignation, effective Oct. 18. The school board held a special meeting Nov. 1 to officially accept the resignation and put a process in motion for filling the vacancy with a one-year term. The board also discussed the topic beforehand in a work study session. According to the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA), around 70 board members have resigned from their positions in 2021 within the state — triple the number of resignations in a typical year. Carlson submitted a letter of resignation dated Oct. 18, which informed the school board she was resigning, effective immediately. “I’ve spent the last 13 years actively involved in the Centennial School District...

Lino Lakes Assisted Living debuts Wall of Honor SHANNON GRANHOLM | PRESS PUBLICATIONS

Lino Lakes Assisted Living and Memory Care Maintenance Director Phil Wanna makes sure one of the shelves for the Wall of Honor display is level. The care facility plans to hold a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. BY SHANNON GRANHOLM LEAD EDITOR

When you walk into the lobby of Lino Lakes Assisted Living and Memory Care, you are greeted by photographs of 13 (and counting) faces of military heroes who all served our country. Later this week, the care facility will hold a big reveal of its new Wall of Honor to pay tribute to residents who are veterans. Veterans and their families, along with other residents and community

Council gets first glance at possible rec center name LINO LAKES — The City Council has directed city staff to continue moving forward with plans for the recreation center with a target opening date of April 1. Back in September, the council approved a brand and marketing proposal for the rec center, the former YMCA building. Marc Morgan of GameDay Sports and Ryan Delwiche of WSB presented the top choice for the name of the facility at last week’s work session.

“We have done a lot of research and brainstorming with our marketing team … One of the really important things is creating a brand and a theme that will allow for future growth. We wanted it to be unique and authentic to Lino Lakes,” Morgan said. The consultants kept coming back to one of the things that makes Lino Lakes unique — the fact that Lino Lakes is home to one of the state’s largest great blue heron rookeries, located on an island in Peltier Lake. Although the name has not been selected, one suggestion was the Rookery Activities

Center. “Coming here for the first time, I knew there was a colony but I didn’t know it was called a rookery, to be honest with you,” Morgan said. “They all live in a colony, young and old. We want residents, young and old, to participate and be a part of the activities center. Obviously, that generates a lot of community pride. They are birds that stick together.” They’re also featured in the carved backdrop for the council dais at City Hall, and the city's new water tower SEE ROOKERY, PAGE 6
